You and Ryan are making a ridicolous oversized laminate!
-
That would be my guess as well

I wonder
is there a limit to how many "faces" you can get off a cleft?
does the last one perform as good as the first?

Well the bats are pressed are they are glued.
We used Clefts with cracks in the back.
think ryan got around 4 8mm faces off
there will be more pics and a few video clips
-
just wondered if the woods characteristics changed the deeper into the cleft you get or is it uniform
just something ive wondered with this method
have you seen performance increases from the lams you have had simmy?
I only had 1 and I did not see the difference

The one Ryan made me made a big difference.

The only limit is on the wood, so varies due to natural knots, cracks etc. I wouldn't have thought performance would alter through the veneers, its the same piece of wood afterall. The performance will come from a combination of pressing and the glue used.

I'd say tea maker but he doesnt do that, just gets in my way all the time :D

if you had a bigger shed it would be easier :P

can you do me a corked bat???
or one with foam in it and then the laminate over the top .......... bit like one of those luminous fielding bats but with the laminate covering the foam so it cant be seen in the edge. So dig it out about 50mm from each edge and then fill it with foam. Once placing the laminate over the top the foam wont be seen.
Would love to hit a few massive 6's in a few midweek league games for a laugh

we actually discussed this Garrett. a lot of work involved tho. not with foam tho as not sure if that would work with the wood being over the top

Could you cork it though? ie. take out a chunk of the inside (like a hunts turbo revolution) and fill it with foam (or not).

Fill it with flubber

Fill it with flubber
we did something similar before but it was a bit thick and when it was glued it cracked slightly...

Those half heart woods must be mine on the shelf 👍👌
-
Interesting stuff chaps, will any wangle there way to a net? You'll have to work on those ahem discreet edge stickers Ryan
-
@Ryan and @Simmy do you press the back piece as well as the front or is it cut, glue and then press? is there any benefit in pressing both the face of back piece and front piece or none? this method must also allow you to increase the overall size of the bat I presume as far cleft sizes are concerned?

No, they are laminated prior to pressing, glued and then pressed. I don't think you would gain any additional performance by pressing the back piece, it would also make it more difficult to laminate with a tight joint.

Simmy will have one you can try Andy.

Hunts county filled one with carbon fibre then laminated over it, some years ago though, there's a photo of one on vintage bats I put on, my neighbour helped design it and still has the original prototype..

I think there was a period where baseball players were having bats drilled out and filled with super balls - it's banned now.
-

I'm also loving the shape of this bat.

Looks a beast! Any chance of rough edge and spine measurements if you get chance?

roughly 40mm edges 60mm spine

Cheers, looks a great shape. Before you took the weight off it sounds similar to my H4L Monster.

That's the best looking bat I've seen in a long time :'‑)
-
That's a lovely shape. Do lam faces generally come from a different cleft than the back?
-
yes normally
-
