South African behemoth Graeme Smith is on the comeback trail. Given his record against England, he could be shoehorned back in ASAP after the lackluster performances by Elgar and van Zyl in the tecent series against India.

Not sure about Kallis, he's 40
-
Does this mean he can captain Surrey again? Because that'd be nice.
-
Would love to see him back playing again good tough cricketer
-
SA have declined so quickly since smith and Kallis left. Both could still be playing, even if Kallis just batted

It's great that Smith wants to get back into cricket. I don't think he would make it into RSA national team. If i were in the selection committee of RSA i wouldn't be inclined to give him a chance. What is the purpose ? Replace Dean because Smith is available. What happens if Smith decides to retire again in a year or two. I would rather persist with the new guy or replace him with one of the newer members like Quinton de kock or Riley Rossou.
Personally i feel his retirement was ill-timed. He should have stuck around to play 2015 WC and then retired. There was no necessity to leave cricket at 33 and think about returning at 34/35 (not sure of his current age).

De cock and Riley are not test standard batsmen, both are one day players again. Neither is a saviour of SA batting

I think it is an attempt to troll KP and England ahead of the Eng tour. It is also an attempt to take the heat out of the poor performances of the SA team.
-
Also a bit of PR for that t20 league

Well SA have ABD then for keeping then .. Seems like they have taken up that option now.
-
Think it's a poor decision to have the best batsman in the world keeping ! I fancy England to win test series

Mitch Johnson says he'll come out of retirement if Smith does...;-)

Ponting? Sangakkarra... oohhh Kallis.. get them all back
-
Just joking didnt he break Smith's hand twice? Personally i think you retire once.
Plenty of masters and 20/20 tournaments around now to keep building the nest eggs and give the public glimpses of your former brillance. Give the next generation a go and keep the retired players from destroying their good reputations.

. Give the next generation a go
but they aren't as good! THat's like being told I have to watch this current Man UTd team rather than the good ones.. why would I want to do that!!

Its interesting you say that. I only have one point of reference, so bear with me.
I watched Australia play since the 80 s rebel tours. They weren't as good as the teams that preceded them, but by the 90s under strong leadership, discipline and persistence we witnessed this team of one day contenders dominate both forms of the game.
Its arguable that Ponting retired as team were on the decendency. Clarke era was littered with rescues at test level, rather than sheer dominance. The Clarke team won a world cup and now again after a string of retirements the Smith era is dominating teams that killed us in the 80s. Are they as good. I'll reserve my opinion until they play worthy opponents.
SA's Smith coming out of retirement does not address a issue with the development system itself. If they are not as good, its systematic and not solved by veterans.
As much as i never liked Warners behaviour ( or Kohli) given time in a system of success they have matured from 20/20 sloggers into test players with great records....note i didn't say great players.
Let the system fix itself and unearth new talent and if it can't fix the system.
