I got this bat last year, it has SHAZAD written on the bottom of the bat. Does it mean it was made for SHAZAD ;) BTW who is SHAZAD? seems like some player from pakistan.
Here are the specs of the bat:
weight 2.98 with one SS grip.
42 mm edges
14 grains
no concaving, amazing amazing bat..
ping is amazing and a very BIG bat for the weight. Pickup is great, it feels bit heavy to me as i mostly use 2.8 lb bat. Here are the pics.

I would ignore the name on the toe, lost count of the number of times it's claimed to be for a Pro. The bat looks impressive in it's own right.

Ah, the Sharpie players edition returns!
-
Saunders did you really need to quote every pic for that reply???
And the sharpie pro edition, seems misspelt to, which is on par for these things.
-
Ahmed shazad - Pakistan's opening batsman and really good player. His sponsor is HS but for that matter this bat can be his.
The bat does have very straight grains and reserve edition ones are top quality.

I guess the player in question is probably "Ahmed Shahzad". He used to be opening batsman for Pakistan. Don't know if he is currently playing though ...
TON reserve edition is the top grade offering from SS. So i would expect very good performance from this bat. Sharpie marks can be made by anyone. Even i can buy a bat and mark it as "Shahzad" or "Sangakarra". Just discard whats written with a sharpie. If its too annoying, apply a toe guard .. :D

Or a mobile contract with a limited amount of browsing data. But hey, why think about others.
-
The bat definitely looks good although I wont put too much trust on what's written with a sharpie and the way it is written. And ofcourse there are innumerable Shazad's out there playing cricket.

Apologies, good point!

from what i have seen is that the toe in all these bats are unfinished rough with the players name inked on them

They spelled sharpie wrong on the end one...
With the new regulations regarding branding on the edges of a bat I doubt they would be pro bats now, nice story to increase sales though...

May be that is the reason they are selling in market.

I've got one. Definately pros. Says
"Gullible"
In sharpie on the bottom. Any ideas who's that could be?

"Gullible" you say.
My guess is is either Chris Gayle or Adam Gillchrist...

I know edge branding is a problem for international matches. But do they enforce the same rules in county cricket or national level matches ? From himanshu's message it seems like these were picked for Ranji trophy players. I am not sure if this rule will be enforced with that high level of strictness ....

as you have seen a few of these "Pro" cleft SS bats, do you see a difference in their performance as compared to off the shelf SS bats ?
-
I guess the pro clefts would be light pressed for high performance.
-
It's been discussed a number of times of the forum.
Quite a few in the industry have been told by senior people and even Jatin Sareen himself, that SS/TON do not write player names on the toe of bats in permenant marker.
-

why would you softly press a bat for performance when softer bats absorb more energy???

We on this forum are more picky than most players we make for i tell you this for nothing..
-
true that. We try to make up for the lack of talent (compared to Pros) with better equipment :D
I know ..atleast I try to do that.
-

I have used Kullu bat which I got from Dave AND this bat SHAZAD, both are amazing bats. But at the same time, if you get top grade off the shelf should have similar performance..

Yes they do play better. I have one which pings better than off the shelf TON Reserve with ruler straight even grains.
Was sold to me as pro bat, regardless its a belter. I have seen 2 so far and both are exceptional.
Looks wise not so much.

And if you don't mind telling- how much more did you pay for the so called Pro bats than regular ones ...was it double the price ?

Price is in US dollars 450 ?
-
wow...$450 is expensive. But if it really performs better and serves well for you...then it is money well spent.
-
BTW who is SHAZAD?
He plays for Afghanistan, scored 161 against Zimbabwe the other day

Shahzad says......
"No sharpie on my bats toe!"
