Title: Lekka RDX
Post by: Sivlar13 on January 01, 2016, 04:07:11 PM
I happened to stumble upon Lekka and James on Facebook, as he posted that he required a bat tester to test a new shape he had been working on. Having not seen a Lekka previously, I do not know as to whether this is a new shape on not but I thought why not and emailed him about it. Being the poor student I am, the £100 original offer was too much for me so asked if their were a way to decrease it. James said if I have any mate who need a bat I should speak to them and the more people I got interested the cheaper it would be. All in all it came to £75 per bat, something I thought was reasonable, at least just to see what they were like. The paypal gift way of paying was a bit strange as I think he does it to get the customer to pay for the fees which isn't the most professional but none the less I went for it. Many weeks later they arrived and I thought I might as well share it, for the price it is definitely good value, the pick up is light and the ping straight out the bag is very impressive, especially considering the price.

Weight: 2lb 7oz
Edges: 36mm
Spine: 60mm
Handle: Round, prefer an oval.
Pick up: Light
Concaving: A fair bit, nothing over the top

Yet to use it in the nets so interested to see how it fairs and if it will last. Not my first choice bat for next season as I have a superb B&S GP 247 and a fair bit lighter than it too, but it is bound to find a place in my collection somewhere.

Supposedly Grade 1 mate but I have my doubts, more like a Grade 2 to me but pings all right!!

Looks nice. Would you know how this compares to an Envy profile?

Also are you selling a Big Hitter on ebay by any chance?

I wonder how these compare to SS, SF, SG and the like? From what I've seen Lekka do vary their prices.

Unfortunately mate I wouldn't know how they compare. Funnily enough it isn't me who's selling that, even though the seller is from my neck of the woods!! The prices he's offered me have always been very reasonable, he's very keen for me to buy 20 bats at £55 a piece so if I can find enough people I might do it. Heard the t20 bat is an absolute monster!!

I was thinking...."is it English willow"?

I've had a SD Kashmir Willow Slazenger bat in the past and the grain structure looks similar to that?

I would be very careful that you don't get stung if you decide to do this.

@Sivlar13 => I have seen a few T20 players in my league using this bat. They all sing praises about its pick up and profile. If there is an ounce of truth in their statements  :D .. i would say you have an excellent bat in your hands ! Good luck ...

You're saying they're very poplar, then?

Not really ... In 2013 Lekka T20 bats were sold by one of our local retailers. He was a contract engineer who was running a cricket shop out of his garage as a second job.  He is originally from Pakistan. He had some good contacts back home with which he sourced Lekka, CA & AS cricket bats. He pretty much gave it away at bargain prices - USD 100 ~ 125 with free machine knocking. Anyone who was looking for a new bat at that time either picked up this bat or a CA 10000 priced at $200. I can recollect about 10 or more people who are using this currently however all I don't see the specific retailer or anyone else in USA selling Lekka RDX bats right now. This bat works very well for people who play T20 games - very light, big profile, long handle - apt for slogging ...

You could be very right, however I was told it was English Willow. Of course being told something doesn't mean it's true.

I had a Kashmir SG master blaster very similar in colour and grain structure to that shown above. It out performed my sponsored Kook bubble
Graham Thorpe LE.

I thought maybe the seller of the Big Hitter was one of the guys who were in the group buy. IIRC Potter does not have positive feedback with some on here.

I reckon I'm going to miss my Big Hitter, especially for the price. It was a 3lb giggle.

It would be good if you could bring it along to one of the group net sessions. I'd like to hear what other cbf'ites think of it.

I think asking you to get your mates to buy a bat so it's cheaper sounds very desperate to get rid of his bats for one reason or another and the whole PayPal thing I would be very careful with sending it to him as a gift next time .

James was sound in the bat I ordered from him which I paid by PayPal gift.

Strange looking English willow, maybe "Canadian"?

I honestly don't understand why anyone would spend their money on a Lekka compared to anything from the big brands or forum sponsors. What do Lekka offer that is worth investing in?

I 100% see where you're coming from mate absolutely, just thought it was a chance worth taking just to see what would happen!! I doubt I'll ever use it properly as my other bat is a railway sleeper but for £75 it was worth a shot!!

I got one a few years back for our opener and it broke last year after 3 or so years happy use and was sub £100 with a great middle so you can get decent bats from anyone

I've had great bats and stinkers from sponsors on here so it's a gamble with any brand just less of a gamble with some and more of a gamble with others

Although paying by PayPal gift is a huge gamble regardless of what the product is like

I was very worried after I had paid through PayPal as James said they would only take two weeks to arrive and it turned out to be two months to the day until they turned up! Getting them shipped I hate, especially as you can't see the product first!!

I got mine from someone in uk so I knew them but I see your point

I've paid by PayPal gift to other sponsors as well but it's your call at the end of the day with anyone

I'm sure if I said to those I've purchased off I'll pay fees but go through pay pal properly they would have

Gift isn't just about fees remember. Paying by gift waives the buyers protection rights. Its essentially the same as handing someone cash. If they disappear and dont deliver as promised, that money is gone.

Yep that's why some have got ripped off on here as PayPal don't want to know if you sent it by friends etc

If in any doubt say no and do t send by gift as a couple of quid in fees is nothing if gambling hundreds

Turns out I was mistaken and did actually pay with PayPal and not PayPal Gift, but shows the importance of checking!!

I have had a few Lekka bats - but this was in the days when they were normally UK made!
Had a couple of the T20 ludicrously large bats, and an average normal bat. The best one was a 2'9 with no concaving and beautifully pressed!
But haven't tried any of the new Lekka bats so would be unfair of me to comment!
Hope this bat works out well for you - and thanks for the review.  :)

I'm afraid that's Kashmir willow. Not that it won't perform, but it's certainly not English Willow...

If it looks like Kashmir/Canadian willow then it must be.

I think you're approaching it wrong. It is not pretending to be a GN Legend grain wise so why judge it as one? If this bat is in Cambridgeshire why not invite it down for a net then figure it out if it's worth the money paid.

I've had a few UK made Lekka's so I'd be following it with interest. If we are happy with the production of softs from that part of the world why can't this be just as good as the CA, SF, SG SS etc bats that we see on here?

Fair point. Give it go in the nets and then arrive at a conclusion. If its Kashmir willow then you will feel the difference right away ...

I have no problem who's name is on the bat.. It may be a gun... But I'm certainly allowed my opinion that it doesn't look like English willow... It looks Kashmir to me and that's all I stated
