Ditto, This probably enough to stop me scoring any!

If you pull the excess away from the end of the handle as if you're trying to pull it off. Then cut in one cut when its stretched, it works out much cleaner cut.

Helps to have decent sized sharp scissors

Hope this makes sense

Maybe a new Stanley knife across the top might help?

I am so glad someone has posted this, I really want to this too. I hate the slightly mangled grip look too!

A very Sharp scalpel does the trick and provides a nice clean cut 👍

Cut it with scissors before you put it on. But I don't think you should need to.
Don't most people bang on the excess with the flat of their hand and then roll the grip up from the bottom then down again and this pulls the excess grip onto the handle?

I find a pair of curved scissors make a lovely job

This is what I do always have done since I saw someone at our club doing it 15 years ago. Any excuse for a bit more time fiddling with my bat

I do that too, but most grips still have 3-4cm extra, presumably to cater for LH users.

Put it flat and cut using a ruler and a scalpel.
But OCD but guarantee to be a straight clean cut

Off the bat presumably?

Yes mate, cut it before you put it on the bat. If you cut a bit too much off you can stretch it to cover the whole handle anyway, so unless you take a sill amount off you'll be fine.

Measure to size off the bat. Flatten and cut with scissor. I get decent flat cut that way

Then apply.

Another way to get a more even cut, is to cut it down VERTICALLY first. So if the grip is sticking out, an inch from the handle, instead of going around or horizontally, start cutting DOWN from the grip towards the top of the handle, and then go around to finish.

That's what I did to get the fairly uneven finish I had in the photo, looks like I'll need to take it off and cut it properly.

If you do have a scrappy end turn the grip round and cover with grip tape.

yeah I have always managed to get rid of any excess via this method

Simplest way is to think like a rabbi.

Grab the excess skin and pull upwards as firmly as you can.

Using a pair of sharp scissors, cut straight across as close to the knob of the handle as possible, and let it settle down.

Am I really the only one, who cuts before, and then take the trimmed end, to the other end of the bat, and cover it with tape?

I had a grip with excess today,  approx 2-3 inches. I simply banged the sides down until it slipped on the handle fully.  I tend to think if you have excess then you are stretching the grip somewhere and it will rip more easily.

Nope. But it depends on the grip. If it is too dodgy a cut or the grip is designed to only go on one way i leave it.

Grip offcuts a great for adding counterbalance at the tip
