With all the talk around the new GN bats would B3 be able to find an ultra low density cleft and make this shape but lighter? Correct me if I'm wrong but some of their Crown clefts come in very light weights so why doesn't someone in the UK go down that path? Id say that with postage from Aus that a crown would be similar in price?

I tell you now it is cheaper and better to get GN
-
They can't put a bow bats like most manufacturers I believe and I think that bow is a major reason why these big GN bats pick up so well for the weight.
I did see on a NZ website that they will be doing a Kane Williamson replica, would love to see one of those in the flesh, supposed to be 2.8

These bats have big bows and B3 can't do that.

More a case of won't as opposed to can't.
-
Is there a reason they won't sarge? How can they copy a bat if they won't do it?
-
To create a big bow theyd have to underpress certain areas like the toe, which they wont do.

Spot on @dcullen8. I have asked Steaky and they do a slight bow. Streaky is adamant that the bow does not improve pickup and there is no scientific evidence that supports this. Pretty sure GM cut the bow as opposed to press it. Having knocked many bats with heavy bends as opposed to arcs I think they tend to feel overpressed at the bend. Not having played them in and used them I can't say whether this is detrimental to overall performance. As for the hitting over the top argument I think that is psychological and more enhanced by technique. They more change the set of the handle to compensate for bow.
Back on topic. it's massive hey!
-
Well I might see if Laver will do one then. If they have an ultra light cleft that is. It would only be worthwhile though if they could do it cheaper than the GN ones.

Topic is whether B3 could copy a 50+ and it seems they can't.

@skip1973 no one has asked B3. I was simply answering the question on B3 bow. Im sure Bat makers can copy any shape, but it's not the same as owning the actual bat. If people want it buy it. If you want a bat that will make you runs in every situation you'd think twice. This is a special needs bat. I'd hate to be caught out using it on a fast uneven track.
-
I couldn't use it on a flat track, they are too big in my opinion. But the question remains for me is how can B3 in this case copy a bat if they can't/won't bow a blade?

I have the bat and bow is not cut, it is a proper bow created by GN.
Stuart Kranzbuhler has made an amazing bat in that GN Warner replica.

Price wise, I think GN pricing is very good and I don't think you'll get a better deal from Laver.

The bat case is quality too. Have to admit this bat has outstanding quality written all over it. The other thing is Stuart knows how to press a bat perfectly. I have knocked a Legend, Ultimate, Elite and all have been pinged beautifully. I think the Aussie handmade range is top tier.

Most consistent of all the big brands in my opinion. So your opinion then Sarge, are GN bats under pressed in certain areas because of the bowing?

I'd agree about consistency and have no issue with GN pressing. I also knocked 2 E41, 2 GN100, 2 F18, 1 Powerbow Gen X last season, that said the Aussie made ones are a class above the other in terms of press quality. That said I'm eyeing off the GN500 at $300. I'd have to see it in the flesh.

I doubt he would be willing to do it, if we could go by what he had said in an interview sometime back.

("As the ICC considers imposing restrictions on ever-burgeoning bat sizes, Laver has entered the debate wielding his super bat.
“We made it to provoke conversation to see what people actually thought,” Laver told The Weekend Australian this week.
“If you make a massive bat you’ll always sell loads.
“(But) I’m not going to sell bats like that. I’m not going to make it.
“This is the sort of thing that I don’t think should be sold.”)

Not technically true in all cases. there are ways around it. Just depends if the bat maker has the means to do it and the want to do it. If he doesn't feel it's of benefit then why go to the lengths and the extra time to get it bowed as big as that

I think Laver are restricted by the size of the clefts that they buy from JS Wrights so the largest they can make is around a 42mm edge...

I only saw the sample and it was ok, there are always a couple of gems floating around though. I can't wait until our orders start coming through, it's like xmas for bat nerds, only 4 weeks to go.

Went and visited Cricket Warehouse Adelaide to buy some edge tape and pants and liked the XP 70 and new Powerbow shapes. Makes the F18 look meh! They had a stunning 50+ in the shop redwood on inside edge and about 9-10 grains. So distracted I walked out with the wrong size. I have my B3 glove voucher so I'm thinking what I can order. Job confirmed for three more years so treat is coming. Want the new sausage gloves anyway.

Pretty sure they made me a 50mm edged ultra a few years back, but that was a one off, they said at the time with pressing they would be max 45mm
-
Laver ultra was 49mm

Typically for this shape we would be looking at around 2.15, yes for a crown it can be lighter but how light obviously depends on the density of the willow. I would advise calling the office and speaking to Streaky about what crown willow there is at present and discuss the weight.
-
Laver ultra also had quite a bit of concaving.

How much is crown willow again

500

500
Holy moly
Do u lot source your own willow?
-
No not yet.
GN are not limited by what they get I guess due to them cutting and felling it to there size.

Are B3 looking at sourcing/growing their own willow going forward?
-
Never say never I guess is the best response

I hate the shape of the Ultra. I always use it as a reference for what I don't want my new bat to look like.
The 50+ still looks like a normal shaped bat.
