Watto is a gun and a very nice guy.

Watto is a gun and a very nice guy.
^^Agreed. I like his cover drives perfect follow through and ends on one knee, and his bowling follow through is impeccible.
-
Also the pull shot through midwicket!
-
Difficult to compare as Watson is only just beginning his Test career and depends which Fred you compare him to. If we are talking about Freddie during his golden spell circa 2005 then I don't think there are many that would come even close to him.
-
As much as i like flintoff and dislike watson, his stats are nearly looking better than freds already! Batting wise that is, flintoff is a much better bowler imo
-
both are crocks
-
Watson is a better batsman although on his day, Freddie is as destructive as anyone. But consistancy is Watson IMO.
But bowling Freddie is better!
So the question would be whether you wanted a bowler who could also bat. Or a batsman who could also bowl!!!???
But I personally rate Kallis more than Watson!! He is a better batsman (in tests anyway) and can bowl very well!
-
there shouldent even be a debate??...freddie!
-
battingwise, yes i will agree watson is on average better and more consistant. but for me there is absolutely no contest between the two for their bowling, its man v boy.
who would i prefer to have in my team? freddie any day of the week. and if he were still in his hayday the aussies would say the same.
-
Bowling wise, just ask batsmen who they would prefer to face!!
Watson with his containing bowling. Or Freddie storming in with his height and power, bowling 90-95mph missiles - some aimed at your head, some at your ribs, some at middle or off stump, and loads just outside off stump!!!
Freddie has turned matches round and won matches! So I guess when it boils down to it, I would prefer Freddie on my team too!
Although Watson is a decent player and very good all-rounder!! Will be interesting to see how well he deveelops in the game!
-
Depends on what you want, a batting allrounder or bowling one. If watson takes 1-4 wickets a test match or bowls economically youd say hes done his job, however Freddie has gained a lot of respect for his destructive abilities with both bat and ball. Watson certainly for his bowling is yet to achieve this.
-
watson hands down
-
Dont really think ive seen Watson put in match winning moments and game changing performances yet with bat and ball...
Fred has done that for so long now and has the ability to turn a game on its head.
I like Watson as a batsman and think he looks a class opener but i dont really think you can compare him with Fred.
-
fred better bowler - watto better bat
-
Yes - It seems that when someone states "wason hands down" they dont seem to give a reason!
Whereas everyone who picks Fred gives good sound reasons why!!! Hmmmm!
-
freds a good fielder tooo , not saying watson isent , but fred has a bullet arm and good hands!!
-
Freddie every single day of the week feared the world over with his bowling and destructive batting and his class fielding ? virtually one every single players world eleven ? Watson although i like the Name lol has done nothing yet and his bowling is not in the same league, batting wise so far a success but again not over a longer period and they will work him out.

flintoff test batting: 31.7
watson test batting 39.5 opening!!
flintoff test bowling: 32.8
watson test bowling: 29.14
watson wins both batting and bowling there.
watson FC batting:46.76
flintoff FC batting: 33.8
watson FC bolwing 29.14
flintoff FC bowling: 31.59
watson again
flintoff = overhyped

Those stats imo dont show the whole story, Watson has literally burst onto the scene as a handy opening batsman who bowls a bit. He will become found out, like all players. And preferably i would have flintoff because of his ability to change a game or match situation! Has Watson done this yet? No. Will he ever? Only time will tell.
-
Who would you prefer to have in your team though? For me it's flintof every day, statistics dont tell us how he raises the game of everyone around him - many of his test wickets came through pressure with the guy the other end reaping the benefits.....can't see watson doing the same
-
Who is most highly regarded by his peers ? that's the point which clears it up for me although i didn't have doubts about it to start with as Freddie was a very special player indeed.
-
Whos watson played against - a poor pakistani side, a very weak west indian side and two or three matches in england - hardly what i would call a proven track record.......lets see how he gets on in India and SA and when he visits England again
-
flintoff average vs aus:33.5
watson average vs eng: 48
flintoff has only scored substantially above his career average vs NZ and WI
-
Technically harris is one of the best spin bowlers in the world according to stats........i rest my case
-

What are the bowling averages James?

watson test bowling: 29.14

technically it says that shakib al hasan is the best one day all rounder in the world, would you rather have him in your team instead of watson, flintoff, gayle, kallis?
-
Nah!!! For bowling there is only one choice - Flintoff (assuming he's fit)
For batting?? Tough one really! Wartson's on great form! But Kallis iis the class all round (proven) batsman!
If I were short on bowling in a team and wanted to strengthen the bowling with an all rounder who can bat, I would go for Freddie every time..no question!
If I were short of batting but wanted an all-rounder who could bowl, then for class I would go for Kallis. But on current form I'd have to go for Watson!
Sometimes it doesn't matter what the averages say, or what it says technically... you just have to go with who you think is the best bet!
-
Watto is a gun and a very nice guy.
Yeah as evident when he dismissed Gayle and ran up to him, jumping up and down screaming like a 12 year old girl?
-
Kallis has been the best allrounder in test cricket for the past decade without a doubt. Okay injuries may not have been on his side but he is a class act with the bat and lethal with the ball. Flintoff would have tipped him if he was more consistent with the bat...

Yeah Kallis would be my número uno. What an awesome bat and gun bowling. His avg in tests is amazing and to bowl with the intensity which he does. He is the go to man when the opposition batsmen need to be reined in and gets wickets at crucial points. Good swing too.
-
Watson has certainly taken his chance and looks like a class batsman who is definately a good 2nd change bowler.
He is enjoying his time but its only been ten minutes....seriously entertaining to watch.....none of this see off the new ball nonsense, he just plays his shots and looks good doing it!
Freds bowling was in a different league, devastating at his best with the ball and a matchwinner with the bat when he did come off. There have been some great moments with the bat but in fairness could have achieved much more than he did.The peoples favourite but when there was a void for a hero he was the only one around.
Kallis the colossus has been around forever and is still as hungry as he was 15 years ago.Incredibly he has stayed fit after the pounding his body has been through. The mentally strongest batsman in the world and far far superior than just a containing bowler. Nothing more to prove, a legend of the game!
