Also thinking about going. Most interested in Melbourne and Sydney, but like the idea of being home at Christmas. Hmm.

T20 tri series will be real fun

Not sure how i feel about the Ashes being played with a day/night fixture...

I'm a big fan of progression with cricket, but there is something about the Ashes that i feel means they should remain day only games...

First Test – Australia v England, Gabba -  23-27 November 2017

That's almost a year away. I don't see Cook at the helm for this Test. England has an opportunity to induct new leadership/captain.

Disappointed that they've stuck in a day/night Test in such an iconic series.

well as i appear to be the only one who likes this idea im getting ready for abuse,

I like the idea of day/night test cricket, in australia, good weather huge crowds and a bit of a party atmosphere.

I also agree its good to try and develop test match cricket to save it and to have it in such a high profile test is good!

I went to the county champion game in abu dhabi 2013 (waarwickshire) and it was really good actually as a spectator the ball as easy to pick up and seemed to just enough to trouble the batsmen but not too much to make it overly bowler friendly and so if we can get similar things in test cricket then im all for it!!

You're not on your own @alexhilly1492 - I think it's the perfect series to include a day/night test. Just adds to the spectacle IMO!

I've just seen photos of the new stadium at Perth, it looks god awful! It's just another typical Aussie concrete bowl much like the Gabba and MCG, it has no character or history like what the WACA has. It's sad to see old iconic grounds being cast aside in favour of more seats, because as we all know more seats means more money. :(

Stokes, Moeen, Root, Rashid, Bairstow, Woakes and Buttler could be in Australia from November to February.

Just think that through and what that would do to a player.

I'd love to be in Australia from November to February. Especially playing cricket.

Ask them where they'd rather be between Australia/New Zealand and the subcontinent...

Pretty sure there's two tests and 3 ODIs in New Zealand after all this

It doesn't have the nostalgia of the WACA but I think it's good for the fans

Missus and work may have issues with that. Other wise I would.
I got family in Melbourne already I could crash with for a bit.

Anyway..... do I need bt sports or watch this? If so I imagine a very expensive winter........(proceed with the kodi box replays, ins till not buying)

You will need BT Sport

Yeah, BT have the rights for the Ashes next year.

Just get BT Broadband & BT TV (Comes with free BT Sport) and keep Sky TV separate if you want both. I'm paying 27.50 per month for Broadband and 22.50 a month for Sky TV with Sky Sports.

If not, Kodi will do the job and be a lot cheaper.

I'd concur with this I could definitely think of worst ways to spend a winter, factor in the money they'll be paid for it and it's not half bad

most grounds around $7.00 mid strength only, so if you are planning on having a few hit the pubs before/at lunch and after around the grounds

All the money in the world can't compensate for months on end away from young families

Can't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head but we had an email off Gullivers travel who specialise in sports packages and it was about £5k for the first two tests with all the travel and hotel! Would love to do it, hopefully the lottery comes in or Mr BetFred does me a favour!

Im sure you could get the prices down considerably from 5k by booking yourself. The mark up on package tours is huge the same as package holidays.

Can any of our aus-based friends give us an idea of ticket price/availability?

Return flights from heathrow are well under 1k.

5* Hotel 9 min taxi (Approx 10AUD) from MCG, 26-30th Dec, 403GBP per room (201.50GBP each)
5* Hotel 6 min taxi (Approx 10AUD) from SCG, 4-8th Jan, 561GBP per room (280.50GBP each)
Flights: LHR - MEL - SYD - LHR = 600GBP (Flights booked a week apart in Nov 17 as Dec flights not available to book yet.)

So, to get there and stay, call it 1100GBP each.

For what is a 5* two week holiday on the other side of the globe, that is bloody reasonable!

I thought as much.

The only positive I could see for going with a package provider is guaranteed match tickets. Are tickets likely to be available to the general public for the tests?

This I can't really help with unfortunately. From the looks of it, they will (Would have thought it would be illegal to only distribute them to tour operators. Hardly fair for those who want tickets only). Hit the link below to get an email when they become available, but I bet you'll have to be rapid once they do.

Definitely, we package our own things all the time, Valencia for 4 nights with a match ticket to one of their matches for half the price we were quoted elsewhere at an agents!

Agree on this. At the MCG, unless you're in a corporate box or in the MCC Members, you'll be drinking Carlton Mid, an awful drop. Cascade is slightly better, Great Northern is terrible as well. Stupidly you can buy spirits but not full-strength beer at the public bars in the ground! There are some good pubs around however, The Duke of Wellington is very popular, The Cricketers Arms on Punt Rd, The Precinct Hotel on Swan St, The Corner Hotel also on Swan St. Even the Transport Bar at Federation Square, there are plenty of options.
