Well - i thought i would trundle out this old question - what are people expecting to achieve this season, what targets have you set and is there anyhting in your game you are looking to improve??????
For me am looking to get Talisman out first ball when i play against him this year - that would be a big target for me (quite literally :) )
500+ runs and 40 wickets will be my league cricket target
Sunday's i just play for fun, but i will use them this year to try and learn to really occupy the crease for long periods of time.
I am looking to improve the fields that i bowl to and to perfect the slower ball. Batting wise, all i want to do this year is open and last the whole innings - something i have never been able to do so far ;)
-
to get too 1000 runs :) i got to 964 last year...
oh and to bowl better..got smashed this year :(
-
Saturday league cricket I want to score 500+ runs
Sunday cricket I want to score 1000+ runs
On tour I want to score some flipping runs - only made about 30 in 4 innings last year.
Would like to become a viable option with the ball in Saturday league cricket, and to take 20+ wickets on Sundays.
-
you want to score 1500 runs?? woaaaah you must be pretty good :P
-
How many matches do you guys play in a season?
I our season, we play 16 matches in the league and a cup with 16 teams.
My goal is to make 600+ in the league (Max 16 matches) (Last season 350 in 15 matches) and 200+ in the cup, (Max 4 matches) depending on how long we get (Last year 150 in 4 matches)
-
we play 20 on saturdays and 20 on sundays ( roughly , give or take a few games ) and then the odd freindly now and again , was quite lucky last year , i wasent involved in one match that was rained off!
-
Okay why are mdl_1979 wanna make twice as many points saturday then sunday ?
Do you have a url to a league tabel, so I can see some teams or to your league hp
-
I play proper league cricket on Saturdays. The stuff I play on Sundays varies tremendously - I play for a Jewish club on Sundays, and the standard of our squad varies from decent cricketers to enthusiastic individuals with little to no ability. We have to arrange fixtures to cater to everybody, which means that sometimes I'm facing pretty facile bowling. I could play at a higher level on Sundays, but part of the reason I play where I do is to try and encourage the growth of the game within the Jewish community, and also because without it I wouldn't have a huge amount of contact with other Jewish folks (I'm not that religious).
1500 runs only works out to an average of just under 40 so it should be very doable. I've shifted quite a bit of weight this winter so far, so I'm hoping the extra fitness will help my performance. I wouldn't class myself as a good player - I was decent as a kid, when I was playing in the Liverpool Comp, but after uni I had about 7/8 years out of the game. 2010 will be my third full season back, and my second season playing both Saturdays and Sundays - I feel like it's taken a whole bunch of time to get back to any kind of level I feel happy with. The way the ball is coming off the bat in nets so far this winter feels really good though, so fingers crossed for 2010!

Got to improve my fielding this year, quite frankly was shocking last season, mind you i did take quite a few good catches that i was pleased with!
Wouldnt mind getting a ton, and keep getting wickets.
Also start playing 3 day games for county this year so could be interesting. Spent 110 overs, in the field for one game last season which was an experience...
-
Get 1000 runs overall in senior cricket, with a ton in there somewhere. 15 wickets would be nice in saturday stuff at under 3.5 rpo.
-
Not so much worried about how many runs - more interested in feeling more confortable whilst batting out in the middle
Averaged high 20's with high score of 61* in 2009. So ideally 30+ average and if I manage that, then I'm sure the top score will take care of itself!
Would like to cement number 5 batting spot, and not give my wicket away easily!

similar to me mate
-
1000+ runs. 50 wickets.
For club and county, Got a good feeling this season !
-
50 wickets, 750 runs
Get selected for full county squad
-
hopefully 500+ runs
and around 50+ dismissals
and im wishing for my first century
-
similar to me mate
Yehh, would be nice to get a ton this year!
-
Ideally like to bag a 50 :) get over 250 runs and bowl and get a few 5thers :) and field well :)
-
600 runs and 30 wickets would be nice. i'm also looking to dramtically improve my fielding as it resembles panesars atm lol.
-
500 runs and 40 wickets
-
750 runs incl. at least 1 ton, and 15-20 wickets would be nice.
-
700-800 runs. 30 wickets
-
Given the limited amount I will get to play this summer - 500 league runs including a league 100 (if I get to play 12 games I will be delighted) and at least 1 wicket (ongoing joke in my team - I hardly ever bowl).
average more than 80 (it's all about the not outs) if I get to play on a Sunday.
-
1000 runs in all cricket, few wickets, over 10 catches
-
500 league runs, 500 sunday friendly runs, 300 midweek runs
50 catches overall
15 stumpings
-
Yehh, would be nice to get a ton this year!
I kept fu**ing up in the 90's!!!
-
500+ league runs
30+ league wickets
and a good cup run in the 20/20's make finals day!!
-

really though?
-
really though?
Yes, 1000 runs in all senior stuff seems reasonable and so does 15 wickets. Why? Whats your target 100 runs overall?
-
I thought I would drag this up... how are people doing now we are at the half way mark of the season? I have got too 400 league runs and hit a league hundred (in 5 games - my availablity has been terrible), so should hopefully meet and surpass my targets, which I am very surprised by!
-
750 runs incl. at least 1 ton, and 15-20 wickets would be nice.
I'm on around 650 runs, I have 2 tons, and 10 wickets. So looking good for me so far :) (New target, 1000 runs)
-
I didn't state my targets on here first time round, but since I have had the same targets every year for the last 3 years, they would have been: 594 league runs (the 94 is to make up for the ones I didn't score last year), no dropped catches and no ducks.
So far..... been dropped to the 2nd team after averaging 10 over my first 5 games (and I was only really counting 1st XI league runs), have dropped one catch (though to be fair it would have been a stunner) - the no ducks record is still in tact though.
Have been re-called to the ones this weekend having hit a 50 in the 2's but mostly due to the fact they have 3 out the top 7 on holiday - fingers crossed I can get a big score, re-claim my place for the rest of the year, and kick start my season and get somewhere near to the 500-odd runs I still need
-
to get double figures at least 5 times this season ;)
get a wicket which isnt a complete fluke :D
-
Season's Targets:
800 Runs (including a century)
Call up to league representative side
No Ducks
10 wickets
So Far:
423 runs (averaging 48.5)
5 wickets
No ducks
No Callup yet.....
-
Im interested in why people keep mentioning not getting a duck as a target. Does anyone want to explain?
-
Mine was fairly simple in beating my last seasons grand total of 52 runs :D managed that so all good!
-
target was 1000 runs for the season, and we're about half way through now and i'm on 455 so need to do a bit more to reach 4 figures!
my target was to get just a few wickets as i wasn't expecting to bowl in the league, but so far i have picked up 16 wickets.
i wanted 10 catches this year, but hardly anything has came my way! i have only taken 5 but with 2 drops :(
also got a direct hit run-out! :D
-
I didnt really have a target, but at the moment im the second highest run scorer in england, for the u14 ecb cup thing
-

Ermmmm... not quite sure what element you want explaining - I would have thought it's fairly self explanatory

Why is 1 any better than 0? As far is i see it both are failures and rather irrelevant in the context of a year
-
i think it's the idea of getting off the mark greg, it's personal preference. for me, getting 1 is something to be proud of, considering where i bat in the line-up, so it's completely relevant.
-
and yes, 1 is better than 0. I agree, both are failures, but 1 is a little less of a failure
-
Personally, getting 0 has never particularly worried me. It's the score we all spend the most time on, so therefore the most likely score to be dismissed for, even without factors like feeling 'in' etc. The thing that frustrates me this season is the number of times I have been out for 20-40.
-
For me it's not how many necessarily but how I got out. Did I give my wicket away or was I outdone by a good ball? I find tracking modes if dismissals helps with this.

I agree, giving your wicket away is a real crime (one I am frequently guilty of). Everyone makes a 0, gets a rough decision or gets a good ball before they are properly "in" but getting to 20 after batting for 5-6 overs then being caught playing a loose shot is something that drives me nuts.
Looking on play-cricket, by far the most common dismissal is caught - which tells a story and says what needs to be worked on in the nets.

i also agree. when i go out to bat i don't think about scoring runs, i just think 'hit the bad ball' and if you get a good ball that gets you out then fair play....
-
for me the whole dont get a duck thing is psychological, if i know i can get 1 then i feel like im off and away. Its like they say, to get a hundred you have got to get 1 first.
-
There is a definite stigma attached to a duck, I got my first for two years at the start of the season and, despite it being a bit of a snorter, it really annoyed me and still does now. That said, my seasonal targets have never included things like ducks or drops... it just seems a bit negative to me to be worrying about that stuff in the first place?
-
same here longy0710, doesnt help that my 'teammates' are not the most understanding type
-
Id much rather get a duck than get 20, If I get to 20 im in and set and should be looking at a 100, simple.
-
Sods law!!! After posting on here - left a straight one and got a duck!!! Oh well got to press on now and make sure i get to 800 runs. And as someone said on saturday as i was walking off "if its good enough for mike hussey, its good enough for you!"
Made me feel slightly better!
-

Personal preference, I'd MUCH rather get 20 than 0, especially considering where I bat! But I suppose people who bat top 4 would rather go on and make a score...
-
Longy - ditto - 3 ball blob on Saturday, though not at all happy with the umpiring decision.
-
just met half my target on sunday - maiden century. now need to press on for 1000 runs in the season.
Should be manageable as i have 478 from just saturday games, 3 junior games and 2 sundays so far. No more exams so have 2 more junior games and all sat/sun games till end of season :)

Glad it wasn't just me, didnt help id bowled a 12 over spell uphill into the wind before opening!
-
Need 73 runs to get 2000 for my club which should take less than 100 innings (overall) and 93 to beat last years total of 897 runs :)

I made my 2000'th run for my club earlier this season (took 80 innings.) Play cricket does make it a load easier to keep an eye on your stats. I have hardly played any games this year - so far 6 out of 12 league games, but unbelievably have hit my 550th run and 2nd league hundred target after last weeks game.
it is funny how writing about technique and batting generally has helped focus the mind on my own game (that and wanting to make every innings count due to not knowing when my next game will be...)
-
Just managed 500 runs so far (only saturday cricket) averaging about 45 as of last saturday. Do you guys count all competitions or is it just league cricket you measure yourself on?
-
personally I count everything - but the only stats I really care about are from league cricket as this is the highest standard I play. So a bit of both
-
i am the same i dont count cup games or sunday side games, just 1st XI saturday league runs as they are the hardest to get lol
-
I haven't been playing long enough to back my league stats so I count all of mine. On 804 from 28 innings thins year :)
-
Thought I'd bring this back up.
On 1059 runs (I think) from 40 innings this year so surpassed my target batting wise and have got 28 wickets so far.
Best season allround for me this year! :D :D
-
Had a count up on the Play-Cricket site, I'm poised on 1680 runs for my club, from 64 innings. So next year hopefully reach the 2000 inside 80 innings....
2011 season couldn't come soon enough!
-
Thanks to moving clubs due to "problems" at said club, and them being removed from the league, I've missed a few weeks of the season through it and also can't access the wickets I've taken in that league *sobs* but I reckon I've taken about... 33 wickets from what I can work out. Not the worst effort in the world, and I've bowled 166 overs, averaging about 16. I've definitely stepped up in standard in terms of leagues though, so it's a work in progress. Didn't get many catches come my way, but ground fielding has been quality, and my batting has improved, scored about 55 runs in 12 innings, which for me is good, and an average of 18, only been out 3 times, so I've done well for me! Still got 2 or 3 games to go though!
-
Upto 660 runs now from 19 games (averaging 41.25) but just got back from A and E - strained medial ligament, 3 weeks out!!! I think im gonna try and get back for the last game 11 days time. Im gutted though, my target of 800 seems along way off now!!! :(
-
Wouldnt rush back from a medial ligament for the sake of one game as u cud make it worse....knee stabilising ligaments arent the best ones to mess with!!!
-
I know, but we have a cup final a week on sunday, and i cant miss that. Just gonna keep icing it and warming it up, then see if im ok by back end of next week
This could cost me the club averages aswell!!!
>:( >:( :( :(
-
well i would invest in a knee support if your going to risk it mate that will stabilise the patella...one with metal rods down the side will prob be best to add stability to the joint
-
Longy - forget your average, that is a by product of cricket not the reason we play. Remember - ligaments take longer than bones to heal (sorry to be the bearer of bad news) - you could do yourself serious damage by rushing back - Take the fact you wont be able to play in the cup final on the chin and go and support your team - you would want to cost the team the match because you have to go off injured would you? :(
Edit - this sounds quite harsh, but I really think you are making a mistake, this really doesn't sound like a muscular thing which you can play through. ???
-
Having ruptured both cruciate ligaments in my left and right knees and tearing the cartilage in the process I can speak from experience when I say giving it an extra few weeks to recover is worth the wait rather than having an operation and lengthy physio to get back to fitness!!!
-
Doesn't sound much compared to others but have scored 191 runs in 5 weekend matches avg 38.2 and strike rate of 161 per 100 balls and 260 in 13 Evening League (20 overs/16 overs) avg 28.8 and strike rate of 169 per 100 balls. Compared to average of under 10 at a lower level last year I'm pretty happy, although would have liked to play more weekend cricket this year.
Longy, don't rush back, I dislocated my ankle a couple of years ago playing hockey but it was the ligaments that took time to heal. I tried to come back too early and ended up missing out on 3 really important games in a UK cup competition including the finals day, I doubt I will ever get the chance to play in those rounds again as we won't make it that far....and I'm getting too old and fat.
-
I know, doctors said should be 3 weeks but maybe 2 weeks at a push. Im tempted to have a couple of sessions in an oxygen chamber to try and get it healed quicker (thats how much it means to me!)
Im hoping full rest 10 days doing the physio i have been given then with strapping might get through.
-
Longy, been there, done that, got the permanent weak knee to show for it.... Had 3 operations to repair it and avoiding making it worse is the only cure.
-
Ok no problems, if i was to play, would you go and see a doctor before hand to let him see if it was fit or not?
-
If you need to see a doctor - you know what he is going to say...!!
-
not its just for him to check i would be fit. As he is the expert not me, iv been injured 2 days now and its driving me crazy!!!! Missed nets last night and i was gutted!
-
well if you wanna play dont go see the doctor basically!
-
Don't do it Longy!
I played the weekend after breaking my big toe (From a Yorker) after the doctor told me not to play, and got hit on the same toe by the quickest bowler in the league! This was well over 2 months ago and my toe is still very swollen and I cannot bend it at all :P
