Season targets!
« on: January 21, 2010, 09:02:30 AM »

Well - i thought i would trundle out this old question - what are people expecting to achieve this season, what targets have you set and is there anyhting in your game you are looking to improve??????

For me am looking to get Talisman out first ball when i play against him this year - that would be a big target for me (quite literally :) )

500+ runs and 40 wickets will be my league cricket target
Sunday's i just play for fun, but i will use them this year to try and learn to really occupy the crease for long periods of time.

I am looking to improve the fields that i bowl to and to perfect the slower ball. Batting wise, all i want to do this year is open and last the whole innings - something i have never been able to do so far ;)

Saturday league cricket I want to score 500+ runs
Sunday cricket I want to score 1000+ runs

On tour I want to score some flipping runs - only made about 30 in 4 innings last year.

Would like to become a viable option with the ball in Saturday league cricket, and to take 20+ wickets on Sundays.

How many matches do you guys play in a season?

I our season, we play 16 matches in the league and a cup with 16 teams.
My goal is to make 600+ in the league (Max 16 matches) (Last season 350 in 15 matches) and 200+ in the cup, (Max 4 matches) depending on how long we get (Last year 150 in 4 matches)

I play proper league cricket on Saturdays.  The stuff I play on Sundays varies tremendously - I play for a Jewish club on Sundays, and the standard of our squad varies from decent cricketers to enthusiastic individuals with little to no ability.  We have to arrange fixtures to cater to everybody, which means that sometimes I'm facing pretty facile bowling.  I could play at a higher level on Sundays, but part of the reason I play where I do is to try and encourage the growth of the game within the Jewish community, and also because without it I wouldn't have a huge amount of contact with other Jewish folks (I'm not that religious).

1500 runs only works out to an average of just under 40 so it should be very doable.  I've shifted quite a bit of weight this winter so far, so I'm hoping the extra fitness will help my performance.  I wouldn't class myself as a good player - I was decent as a kid, when I was playing in the Liverpool Comp, but after uni I had about 7/8 years out of the game.  2010 will be my third full season back, and my second season playing both Saturdays and Sundays - I feel like it's taken a whole bunch of time to get back to any kind of level I feel happy with.  The way the ball is coming off the bat in nets so far this winter feels really good though, so fingers crossed for 2010!

Got to improve my fielding this year, quite frankly was shocking last season, mind you i did take quite a few good catches that i was pleased with!
Wouldnt mind getting a ton, and keep getting wickets.
Also start playing 3 day games for county this year so could be interesting. Spent 110 overs, in the field for one game last season which was an experience...

Get 1000 runs overall in senior cricket, with a ton in there somewhere. 15 wickets would be nice in saturday stuff at under 3.5 rpo.

Not so much worried about how many runs - more interested in feeling more confortable whilst batting out in the middle
Averaged high 20's with high score of 61* in 2009. So ideally 30+ average and if I manage that, then I'm sure the top score will take care of itself!
Would like to cement number 5 batting spot, and not give my wicket away easily!
