Title: Short notice net at the County ground Bristol
Post by: mcgill123 on February 05, 2017, 04:25:53 PM
Edge and myself are having an impromptu net tomorrow at the county ground
We were wandering if any like minded forumites would like to join us
No time has been agreed between us yet and I think we are quite flexible
The pulling of sickies are encouraged and a sick note can be acquired if needed from Dr Edge

I'd love too but have been taken down with the sickness bug since Friday and can barely move. Hoping I've shaken it off enough to attend our nets there on Tues evening.

Get yourself an early night and you'll be good to go tomorrow
Ideal opportunity to test one of the new sticks Tom.

Hi guys, unless you're looking at something around 7/8pm start time I'll have to give it a miss as I won't be able to get back from work in time.

Hi mate, we were looking at sometime during the day as we are both have a day off.
We will have to try to arrange something for another date maybe?.

That would work fine for me, bring the Warner though! ;) 12-1 say @d7bow @mcgill123 ? Or 11.30-1 maybe?

Yep no probs, I'll post on here to confirm when I've booked it. Just in case that time happens to be taken, if necessary I'll book it a bit earlier, that work for you both?

That's good mate, do you have the same mobile number you gave me the last time we netted? just in case I get lost again :(

I'll chuck the kit bag in the van, on the off chance I may be able to pop along.
When booked, pop up the time and I'll see what I can do

Morning gents, they'll only book it by the hour so I've booked us in 12-1 @mcgill123 @d7bow @spoonbed
11-12 is free so can extend it if we want, let me know, although two hours might be a bit long if there's only 3 of us!

I think two hours may be beyond me if there's just the three of us, I'm happy with 12-1

Thanks for the net guys, really enjoyed it
Some lovely bats on show
The d7bow Warner was immense but sadly out of my weight range, the b3 was more in my scope but was also a very big bat with great grain structure
I liked the look of the Red Ink Edge, great value for money and on my bat bucket list
Didn't get a real good look at Spoonbeds bats but the Blank Bat looked very nice and seemed to go well, particularly the cut shots :o

Yes cheers all, great suggestion @mcgill123  for a short notice net and top work cutting us all in half with a sidearm! Will go through the video and upload bits when I get a chance.

I hope I wasn't too erratic/dangerous with it.
Spoonbed however was a magician with his, had me in all sorts of trouble when he bowled out of the back of the cup
Totally bamboozalled by it, couldn't even hit the full tosses come the end
Be good to see some footage Edge, I have only seen myself play two shots before
You must include that straight drive of yours, probably the shot of the session

Sorry only just seen this.
I'm still recovering from a broken scaphoid and elbow so netting not on the agenda at the moment sadly!

Hope you had a good one

Sorry to hear that @thecord, hope you heal up well mate!

Edited my batting stint down into a watchable video, took a surprisingly long time to do so I might not do this for everyone! will upload more later though.

Looks like you had a great time guys, some super shots there Ed! Looking in great nick, plenty of runs this season please ;)

Next time you're thinking of doing another one would love to come along, and sure @t2ylo would too.

We chatted about that earlier James and I'm keen for another, maybe on a weekend would suit better?

Thanks for putting this up edge, any advice with the leg side stuff would be welcome?, I think it's a combination of problems I'm yet to work through and although there were a few balls down leg side that I wouldn't chase after in game, the few that I did connect with were off balance and akin to playing Russian roulette

No bother mate! Had a quick look and seems like a simple case of too much bottom hand trying to get it behind square on the leg side. 3:17 is a good example in the video, as you make contact your bottom hand is actually behind your top hand. Doesn't take a big change to fix it, but life gets much easier if you aim straighter, through mid-on or midwicket with a straight bat, and then use the top hand to guide it into whatever gap you're trying to get it through rather than trying to bottom hand it down fine. KP and De Villiers both explain about the hands and playing straighter well in these:

Thanks mate, I will take a look at the two videos at some point this afternoon.
I'd recently opened up my front foot hoping that it would enable me to access the leg side easier but it hasn't worked.
I'm still playing all around my front pad and I totally agree that I should be driving a lot of the balls through the on side.
Work in progress but I will keep practising.
