The King is dead, long live the King!
As everyone expected. I hope he goes the way of Smith, Kholi and Williamson and the captaincy pushes his batting on rather than holding it back!
-
The right appointment... Should be interesting to see how he takes to the added responsibility.
-
Nice to have a calming influence as his deputy to help out in the early days.
-
JR: "Ben we're struggling to get shot of this lad here, what do you reckon?"
BS: "Let me knock his f*****g head off skip"
-
With a bit of luck this turns out to be a horrendous mistake, both for Root and for England. Culminating in a career scaring 0-5 Ashes whitewash.
-
Part of me desperately hopes he makes it work and gets the success he deserves, as he's a top player and seems a genuine nice character also. However, I have my doubts over the extra pressure it will heap on top of him, whilst I have no doubt he can handle it, the intensity may become too much over time, however he was the only real candidate in my eyes, which is a fairly sad state of affairs for the English game really. It's worked for Williamson, Smith and Kohli though so fingers crossed

The right decision was made. Great bit of promo for New Balance captain, vice captain and also kit supplier. Can only see more players following suit.

Its a fix i reckon New Balance paid Strauss off :D :( :o
in all honesty like most i just hope it doesn't effect his batting.... but saying that he can't do much worse at the moment he's only getting 70 & 80's!

All hail the rise and ascension of our Lord and Savour J.E Root

Done wonders for kohli and smith, could see root going the other way though

All the talk of the pressure / expectations / responsibility getting to him is such a British thing to do!
You'd never hear the Aussies, Indians or Saffers coming out with this kind of negative, pessimistic drivel. It's not a responsibility that can ruin someone, it's an opportunity to push the team forward and should be seen that way.
All the press are hoping none of the off field pressure gets to him, but you can be damn sure they won't help the situation by giving him a bit of space or a less judgmental line of questioning!

Wouldn't surprise me the company's development has been very fast they will only go one of two ways. As for Joe I think his personality will be an advantage as I think the players might respond a bit better to Joe with him being a relaxed character. Also we may not ever get to see it or hear about it but I'd imagine the players might get a bit more input on the field.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick here but are you suggesting NB might go bust over their heavy investment into the cricket market?
Seems a lot of folk underestimate how big of an outfit they are, New Balance are a 100 year old, multi-billion dollar operation, not some fly-by-night who bit off more than they can chew, they could blow 10's and 10's of millions on cricket and still decide it's not for them and walk away without breaking a sweat.

No not that they will go bust it will take a lot for that too happen but can imagine they will either stay part of the cricket and bring out more ranges and in 20 years be what we see GM, GN and Kookaburra are now. Or completely over invest into it and don't see much profit and drop off the radar in the next few years.
