Back to today's game, 70 needed from 10 overs.
The pacers are getting the ball to spin square

NZ level the series with an unbelievable from guptil. 180 off 138

Wasn't an easy wicket either

ABDV isn't suited to captaincy, it seems to be on burden him rather than the affect it's had on Smith/Kohli. FDP should be captain.

Guptill good innings makes the Kiwis a totally different team when he's blazing away

Why is AB batting at 5? surely he should be at 3.
He's playing the role of the finisher for some reason

I think he is enjoying the lower slots. But yes, he is a genuine number 3/4

Too many bits and pieces players on both sides.

Morris, Andile, Parnell, Pretorious all bowling allrounders but non worldclass.

Berhardien is one of those 30-40 run players that bowls like Chris Harris.

David Miller not firing after injury is not helping them.

NZ need to be more diligent when it comes to finishing an innings (bowling) 72 runs off the last 5 overs is simply not good enough against a strong SA team

First Test starting tonight. NZ have dropped Southee and de Grandhomme. Neesham and Patel in. For the South Africans Morne Morkel returns after along time, poor old Olivier misses out.

Gutted for sodhi - really is a talent.
Surprise surprise we haven't prepared a green top, we know if we did we'd get beaten. Kane always loses the toss, is there any point of doing it!

I like that they have dropped Tim Southee, I don't think Henry Nicholls should be playing though...

Good nut that from Wagner, but Amla will probably be disappointed to be bowled like that. He didn't move his front leg at all (after his trigger) and played round a straight one.

The more I see it the more I'm drawn to JP Duminy's gear. And as I type that he's gone (or is he? Review pending...)
Title: Re: Nz vs SA series
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on March 07, 2017, 11:18:20 PM
Yes he's gone, great over from Wagner.
Cleans up Amla and bounces out Duminy.

Almost seems a shame to go to bed while this is on...

Is Neesham a better bowler than I thought he was, or have NZ gone in with only two proper seamers in a home test?

Amla scored a hundred in the Test prior to this one, so he's going ok.

He needs a fair share of luck like last Test vs SL when he was dropped very early.

Do hope he still has a few years left in him though.

Yeah hopefully keep them under 320...Not sure if I like the look of the kiwis batting line up, need some descent score from our big names. In saying that, really wanting Raval to get runs !

6 wickets falling to spin on the first day. Good knock from Nicholls to give us some sort of score.

Seems that the best time to bat is on day 4 and 5 in NZ

looked like a good knock - especially coming in at 21-3

although i am also loving Watling's knock of 34 in 132 at a strike rate of 25, think Nicholls owes him a beer  ;)

Very happy for Nicholls that he's registered his first Test century. Played a few good innings previously 76 in South Africa and 98 against Bangladesh. This century should help him secure a long term place in the side

Even if you just look at 2016, bairstow record breaking year. Bairstow averaged 58
De kock averaged 63, albeit from a lot less tests.

De kock is some find and in great form at mo.

I thought there was a law stopping fielders from making dramatic or large movements before the batsman hits the ball?

I didn't see this live and it's clearly a stunning catch but if there had been 2 behind square would his movement have made it a no ball?

Bit frustrating that Raval isn't converting those 50's into 100s yet.

KW 148* - fastest to 5000 runs for NZ. What a player!

Difficult to see a result coming unless NZ manage to get a lead of 200.

Just to play devil's advocate, if you take their stats when played as a keeper rather than just a batsman, there isn't much in it at all.

QDK has hit the same amount of tons and fifties in a third less games though, that's the point he really scores over Bairstow I think, especially when you consider the England tail is usually a hell of a lot stronger than SA's - Bairstow's had Ali and Woakes to bat with him for most of the past year at least.

He has kept it up for three  years thus far - the England selectors look more likely to stop him than any of the bowling attacks he has faced.
