Wow Nz have had a packed season:
India away
SA away
Aus away
Pak home
Bang home
Aus home odi series
SA home
That's a lot of non stop cricket!
-
Back to today's game, 70 needed from 10 overs.
The pacers are getting the ball to spin square
-
NZ level the series with an unbelievable from guptil. 180 off 138
Wasn't an easy wicket either
-
Gonna try play this all summer https://streamable.com/z9jfd

Me too, my team mates are NOT going to be pleased with me :D
-
ABDV isn't suited to captaincy, it seems to be on burden him rather than the affect it's had on Smith/Kohli. FDP should be captain.
Guptill good innings makes the Kiwis a totally different team when he's blazing away
-
Highlights here, some wonderful shots https://streamable.com/6mf15
-
Why is AB batting at 5? surely he should be at 3.
He's playing the role of the finisher for some reason
-
I think he is enjoying the lower slots. But yes, he is a genuine number 3/4
-
Too many bits and pieces players on both sides.
Morris, Andile, Parnell, Pretorious all bowling allrounders but non worldclass.
Berhardien is one of those 30-40 run players that bowls like Chris Harris.
David Miller not firing after injury is not helping them.
-
NZ need to be more diligent when it comes to finishing an innings (bowling) 72 runs off the last 5 overs is simply not good enough against a strong SA team
-
First Test starting tonight. NZ have dropped Southee and de Grandhomme. Neesham and Patel in. For the South Africans Morne Morkel returns after along time, poor old Olivier misses out.
-
Gutted for sodhi - really is a talent.
Surprise surprise we haven't prepared a green top, we know if we did we'd get beaten. Kane always loses the toss, is there any point of doing it!
-
I like that they have dropped Tim Southee, I don't think Henry Nicholls should be playing though...

Is he Gray's brother?
-
No Relation, he can't even score runs with their bats :D
-
Is he Gray's brother?
As a Nichols, I can confirm that this joke never wears thin
-
Good nut that from Wagner, but Amla will probably be disappointed to be bowled like that. He didn't move his front leg at all (after his trigger) and played round a straight one.
The more I see it the more I'm drawn to JP Duminy's gear. And as I type that he's gone (or is he? Review pending...)
-
Yes he's gone, great over from Wagner.
Cleans up Amla and bounces out Duminy.
Almost seems a shame to go to bed while this is on...
-
Pretty sad that Amla's been declining quite a bit recently.
Hope he finds some consistent form soon...
-
NZ still have a tough day ahead after lunch
-
Is Neesham a better bowler than I thought he was, or have NZ gone in with only two proper seamers in a home test?
-

dont worry he has to play england this summer, he will get stacks then... always does
-
Back a couple of years yes but on current form is a major worry :o
-
Amla scored a hundred in the Test prior to this one, so he's going ok.
-
He needs a fair share of luck like last Test vs SL when he was dropped very early.
Do hope he still has a few years left in him though.

He'll never be Marcus Trescothick though as I'm sure you would agree Felix

Sir Marcus of Somerset :D
-
SAF tumbling here, could be out sub 300 here.
Good comeback this morning by the Kiwis
-
Yeah hopefully keep them under 320...Not sure if I like the look of the kiwis batting line up, need some descent score from our big names. In saying that, really wanting Raval to get runs !
-
To be honest, they are going to be super reliant on Williamson and Taylor.
-
Couldn't agree more, and if they fail (please don't fail!) watling and neesham have to pull finger in a big way
-
Latham fails again vs a non subcontinental team sigh
-
Good effort to knock them over for 303. KW on course for another 100 - hopefully get a lead of 150
-
OOFT! 4 degrees C today! Apparently SA have asked if they can field in beanie hats. 😂
-
Some diabolical reviewing from NZ, not sure why they ignored Neesham on both occasions to leave them alone
-
6 wickets falling to spin on the first day. Good knock from Nicholls to give us some sort of score.
Seems that the best time to bat is on day 4 and 5 in NZ

looked like a good knock - especially coming in at 21-3

although i am also loving Watling's knock of 34 in 132 at a strike rate of 25, think Nicholls owes him a beer ;)
-
Very happy for Nicholls that he's registered his first Test century. Played a few good innings previously 76 in South Africa and 98 against Bangladesh. This century should help him secure a long term place in the side
-
Another one before lunch and we've got a chance of a decent lead. Definitely need dekock early

Who doesn't? ;)

QdK pretty special player. Hands down best wk/batsman going around

Johnny Bairstow for me. Quinton currently a slightly better keeper but would have YJB in my batting line up anyday. :)
-
QdK averages 49 compared to Bairstow 41.

Slightly?!

Even if you just look at 2016, bairstow record breaking year. Bairstow averaged 58
De kock averaged 63, albeit from a lot less tests.
De kock is some find and in great form at mo.
-
Wait till De Cock comes to England I think he will struggle *(famous last words).
-

Big fan of his Ger
-
Williamson not won a toss all series!
Are they playing in nz or on the subcontinent - looks a very very dry pitch.
-
De Kock bats far too low down the order
-
Maharaj uses his glove to rub the dirt off his bat's toe after EVERY ball. Got to be the most OCD thing ever.
-
De kock holding firm!
-
Did anybody see Lathams catch? Unbelievable!!

Ridiculous catch :o
-
I thought there was a law stopping fielders from making dramatic or large movements before the batsman hits the ball?
-
I didn't see this live and it's clearly a stunning catch but if there had been 2 behind square would his movement have made it a no ball?
-
Wouldn't have been a problem, he was in front of square at the bowlers release.
-
I thought there was a law stopping fielders from making dramatic or large movements before the batsman hits the ball bowler releases the ball
-
Ah, still i bet it's a massive distraction seeing short leg disappear off to Narnia!
Tbh as a batsman you're probably too focused on watching the ball to notice

Stupid shot in proper cricket.. keep that for hit and giggle
-
It seems that catch has given young tom some confidence to get into double figures with the bat! :D
Really hope he performs and gets a nice score, he is actually a good player in my opinion
-
Bit frustrating that Raval isn't converting those 50's into 100s yet.
KW 148* - fastest to 5000 runs for NZ. What a player!
Difficult to see a result coming unless NZ manage to get a lead of 200.

KW is a class act indeed. Will finish his career as NZ's g.o.a.t by some distance

Just to play devil's advocate, if you take their stats when played as a keeper rather than just a batsman, there isn't much in it at all.

QDK has hit the same amount of tons and fifties in a third less games though, that's the point he really scores over Bairstow I think, especially when you consider the England tail is usually a hell of a lot stronger than SA's - Bairstow's had Ali and Woakes to bat with him for most of the past year at least.
-
De kock is well ahead of bairstow as a test match batsmen, it's not really close. Bairstow will not keep this run up but de kock looks like he will as his technique is far better
-
That lad AbD doesn't have a bad record either ;). Embarrassing that he's not in the test side - stick him in as an opener...
-
Be good to see how both go in England.
De Cock is decent no doubt but better players have been found out with the movement in England

He has kept it up for three years thus far - the England selectors look more likely to stop him than any of the bowling attacks he has faced.
-
I guess Santner is doing his job right as Williamson hasn't asked him to turn it up a little. Gonna be hard to do anything if they don't start accelerating though.
-
Good day for us...hopefully the weather holds on day 5 and we can win this.
Again down to dekock to save SA
-
When your #7 averages 50 but two of the top 6 average under 35 you know the teams balance is a bit wrong...

England and South Africa both here!

Poor lad!

Gutted for our boys! Rain's saved SA here

Proper village running that, bloody awful haha

Amla should have run bowlers side. Poor De Bruyn.
