Anyone considering going to aus this winter?
Yep, lame sale goes through officially so the mrs, the rug rat and I are off for a few months to aus.. watch the ashes live and I can play regular cricket. Win win
-
My parents are. They are going to the Perth and Adelaide tests which are before Christmas so I can't get them to pick me up something in the GCCC Boxing Day sales. Gutted.
-
Wife wants to go to Thailand/Singapore at the end of the year, in hopeful we could do Singapore then Perth then home to catch a day.
-
Anyone with any experience of an ashes tour mind having a chat with me?
-
I'll have a chat with you bwcc, I was there in 94-95, Sydney is fabulous and no one hates the English as most have relatives here-never been made more welcome anywhere with my England shirt on. Drove from Sydney to Melbourne on Humes highway, didn't look far on the map, took about 100 hours with 4 of us in a Nissan Micra.Stopped to re fuel a few times is deserted petrol stations, you've seen Wolf Creek right? Ok it was like that.
Got to Melbourne it rained a lot just like England, hit the MCG and the sun came out, vast stadium wrapped up in jeans, coat and boots to avoid skin cancer the temp hit 100 degrees.then with nothing to eat apart from a burger went out on the town (still boiling hot) drank way too quick must of passed out in the toilet or hit my head somewhere.Woke up with a sheila(Aussie girl) legs astride my neck in the gents toilet slapping me round the face. Without her doing that I could of been brown bread, to her I owe a lot.
Fell out with my mate on the trip got a silver bus back to Sydney with an Israeli army girl asleep on me for 24 hours.she was very pretty and I fell in love for a day.
Back at Pitt street Sydney took in the sights of a wonderful city, left and came back to England a grown up.
Is that OK for you?.
-
Yep, looking likely that I shall be doing Melbourne, and going to see if I can stretch to Sydney.
Have only ever done the Windies before, so looking forward to it
-
100 hours? Did you drive around the whole coast of Australia? It's about a 9.5 hour drive lol

It's like the Hangover for cricket nerds, top story time pal :D

it is actually true :)
anyone thinking of going to see the Ashes in OZ just go. it's a fabulous place Australia(when you get to grips with how vast it is) , the MCG is something else I believe it does get full (or did) for an Aussie rules final.
Plus Sydney harbour fireworks for new years eve is amazing to see.
Only thing I regret about the whole 3 weeks was not going over to Perth to see the coastline and of course, the WACA :)
-
I am still undecided as the plan is to go to NZ in Oct and are considering a stay in Aus
-
Anyone have any idea if there's a minimum age for hiring a car over there?
-
21 I believe
-
How sure are you @Number4
-

Ashes road trip

You'll pay a hefty surcharge for being under 25 though.

Straight out of Inbetweeners! Love it!
I dunno where this myth about English being hate din Australia emanates from? Every cricket club has both Aussie resident Poms and gappy Poms playing. Every work place has Poms working there. I mean,. you only have to look at an average Aussie test team to realise that a lot of Aussies have very recent UK backgrounds...Renshaw obviously, Handscomb, Pattinson, Smith, Harris, Slater, Tait...the list goes on.
Come down for an Ashes series, because guaranteed you will love it!

Where is my invite?

Ashes talk has already started with Woakes claiming Aussie favourites.... It's going to be a very good series I think...
Will be interesting to see how Root goes as captain seeing as last time he played an ashes series he failed dismally and was dropped.
Can he bat in Australian conditions?

Hoping to somehow get day 1 or 2 as well but proving very hard as only one bay left at $99 (cheapest available unless you dont want to drink)
-
I got day 1&2 tickets for Melbourne and day 1 for Sydney!
Im up with the gods at the MCG but who cares its the boxing day test match!! Better look at some flights now :D
-
Yeah tickets going fast, going to be a big series, I got in early day1 for Gabba and Boxing day :)
-
Managed to get my day 1 tickets, albeit in the family stand :D but at $23 each I'm not complaining.
Loved the SCG only time I went in 2003 saw Caddick have a field day on day 5. Looking forward to seeing how different it is now
-
Lucky you guys are getting days 1 & 2 as you might not last day 3 or 4 ;) :D

Not really considering we never win there
-
think of all the money they'll have lost on ticket sales and how much the delay is costing.
The aim when they started was to be finished for the Ashes, I thought that was the whole point
-
Attention Australians.
Take your whites to the ground. You might get a game.

Good on the players. Admin types, managers etc make far too much money for very easy roles. Players make the game what it is so should be rewarded for more
