Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me out here . I like a bat with a pronounced oval handle . I have tried the custom made route but don't like how you are pretty much committed to buying the bat you have made . In terms of 'off the shelf companies' which have the most oval handles . ... newbery? Ton ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

personally ive had warsop and chase bats and by accident or design you often get a large oval handle
obviously people are different but its almost the most important part of the bat
-
I second Chase.
-
my laver had a very oval handle.
-
I can second Warsop but he can also do some really thin handles too.
-
Build up tape under the grip?
did this this week. my handle is now very oval!
-
My H4L is quite thin handle wise compared to my Dunamis. but the biggest oval I've laid hands on is that of a Chase bat, quite square if anything..
-
Good to see someone else who likes a proper handle ;) I've used tape on a couple of bats but it's hard to get the same feel. Chase, Hunts, Aldred, I know it's custom but Red Ink do a great handle, some Salix but not all it seems. H4L aren't all that oval or thick in my experience.
-
H4L only downside I agreed to their bats. not sure technically what a big oval does it just feels better, same with warsop-great feel to the handles
as luck would have it I just bought a bargain bat from Fattus and it happens to have a lovely oval handle, it's a grey Nichols which I have not used since the powerspot days.
don't quote me but I think a large handle helps the pick up of the bat overall to be lighter

Yes. Some of the GNs are now quite oval at. The bottom with a taper towards the top.

yes exactly.....
pretty good actually.

A big oval handle is always touted as helping you to be more top hand dominant but I find it locks in the bottom hand and makes me a bottom hand biffer!
This has always confused me too... and is exactly why I like big oval handles :D
Interesting you say about H4L handles being too chunky. I've found the ones I've tried to be a bit on the thin side, for me anyway. No accounting for taste I suppose!

I had a couple of D&P bats in the past and they were very oval

I hear you, I moved a nice Volante on to a fellow forum member via eBay because I couldn't get used to the handle. Totally different feel to the GMs I'm more used to.

Warsop are very large and oval

my laver had a very oval handle.
all the Lavers I have owned, had good oval handles. But the best oval handle I have ever seen is a Black Cat owned by the @Hosk
-
My Gray Nics Select has a pretty oval handle. The only oval handle i've had and its by far my favourite out of all the bats i've had.

Hi thanks for feedback so far .. 2 further questions 1) are ton bats genuine oval handles 2) where are laver and wood bats stocked in the uk ? Thanks lads
-
Laver and wood's are only available new from NZ.
I don't know about Tons.

I have a handle set now which I cut out of one of my favourite bats and take it to bat makers when I get a bat made.
I know the guys at b3 used to get players handle sets all the time.
Handle shape is very important to people.
This for me is the most important aspect of bespoke bats.
The rest is mere gravy ie middle position and edge size and to some degree weight.
Handle-pick up/balance are the only thing I look for nowadays
in truth the first pick up of bat it either feels or it doesn't but I guess that's me..
-
Not that their current bats are anything special , but Puma bats almost always have big oval handles. Other than that they are quite s.s ish .

I think most players would agree when you first pick up a bat you know if it feels right for you.

An update on my quest for a good oval handle . Of all the ' off the rack' bats I have tried it seems that puma bats have the most oval handle with the bottom hand much bigger than the top . Evopower seems a nice bat . Evospeed very light but perhaps too high a middle ..
-
You probably won't find any low middle pumas but may find some mid , mid low middles if you look around . The platinum eds they were doing recently had a slightly lower middle than others . The puma ive got has a very high middle and smallish spine (58mm approx) yet still goes surprisingly good down low , so if you like one of them perhaps dont be put off by the shape until you've tapped it up .
