Most pronounced oval handles
« on: February 24, 2017, 02:01:15 PM »

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me out here . I like a bat with a pronounced oval handle . I have tried the custom made route but don't like how you are pretty much committed to buying the bat you have made . In terms of 'off the shelf companies' which have the most oval handles . ... newbery? Ton ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

personally ive had warsop and chase bats and by accident or design you often get a large oval handle

obviously people are different but its almost the most important part of the bat

I can second Warsop but he can also do some really thin handles too.

My H4L is quite thin handle wise compared to my Dunamis. but the biggest oval I've laid hands on is that of a Chase bat, quite square if anything..

Good to see someone else who likes a proper handle ;) I've used tape on a couple of bats but it's hard to get the same feel. Chase, Hunts, Aldred, I know it's custom but Red Ink do a great handle, some Salix but not all it seems. H4L aren't all that oval or thick in my experience.

H4L only downside I agreed to their bats. not sure technically what a big oval does it just feels better, same with warsop-great feel to the handles

as luck would have it I just bought a bargain bat from Fattus and it happens to have a lovely oval handle, it's a grey Nichols which I have not used since the powerspot days.

don't quote me but I think a large handle helps the pick up of the bat overall to be lighter

Yes. Some of the GNs are now  quite oval at. The bottom with a taper towards the top.

A big oval handle is always touted as helping you to be more top hand dominant but I find it locks in the bottom hand and makes me a bottom hand biffer!
This has always confused me too... and is exactly why I like big oval handles :D

Interesting you say about H4L handles being too chunky. I've found the ones I've tried to be a bit on the thin side, for me anyway. No accounting for taste I suppose!

I hear you, I moved a nice Volante on to a fellow forum member via eBay because I couldn't get used to the handle. Totally different feel to the GMs I'm more used to.
