I always used to like Tony Greig commentary in the past, and I like many commentators currently but Danny Morrison seems to be a cut above the rest these days...His commentary in IPL just adds so much to the experience - passionate and beautiful, in addition to his wonderful accent, cannot be told in works, find him so good :) Also find Clarke and Mark Taylor quite interesting, laid back and excellent analysis always..
What do you guys think, which commentator you like among the current lot.
-
I like rob key, he provides good insight imo. Bumble is usuallly good fun and I love all of the TMS team
-
Geoffery Boycott calls it like it is
-
Danny Morrison..? 😲
As above, most of TMS. Sky are pretty good for the most part, Atherton possibly best? Aussie lot mostly seem to be more interested in talking about themselves than the cricket match.
-
Ponting
-
Athers, Hussain, Ian Bishop, Simon Doull
-
Nick Knight... 😂
-
Tony cozier was a favourite of mine whenever England played WI
-
Danny Morrison..? 😲
Danny Morrison for creating the excitement/generating party feel on game days. There are a lot of commentators with excellent analysis and who call it for what it is but few who generate excitement in the mould of Tony Greig, Boycott, etc. Feel Morrison fits the bill here... Maybe a combination of one serious plus another "excitement" commentator will be a good mix...
-

Don't find that is necessarily a bad thing...there are many who would want to know that in addition to the game, dont we :)
-
I personally like Danny myself. He is a perfect 20/20 commentator. He is an entertainer and fulfill the demand of t20 entertaining format. He may not work well with longer format of the game.
-
Danny Morrison just sounds like a complete tool. Every time. Same schtick.
As for the Sky chaps I think they're all great with the exception of Botham, Gower and Knight. Love hearing more of Key and Trescothick this summer so far and I hope they're involved with the England games this summer. Kudos to Ian Ward when anchoring as well, I suspect eventually he'll replace Gower. Best thing about Bumble is he knows the right time to be funny.
As for the Australian contingent it's all one big boys club with Slats, Tubbs, Binga, Warney; here's from drivel from awhile ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1rz85VDjNY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1rz85VDjNY)
But when Warne is paired with the right people he does say some really interesting stuff
-
Boycott annoys me beyond belief, but , generally his knowledge and insight is a cut above.
Tms all day tho, always listen when I can
-
Best ever John Arlott if you closed your eyes and listened he was so discriptive you thought you were watching the match at the ground.
-
Ramiz Raja.
"And the ball is bowled, the batsman hits the ball, the ball rolls along the ground, the fielder picks up the ball..."
I know, Ramiz! I can see that! :D
I can see why people can dislike Danny Morrison, he's a bit Marmite.
For me, Bumble for comedy, TMS for the all-round experience.
-
Agree about TMS but I feel the Blofield is dragging it down a little now and is potentially over the hill/going a little crazy.
-
My favourite was the West Indian lady - Donna something? Really interesting voice and pretty knowledgable. Wonder what happened to her?
-
Rob Key and Bumble are the best in my opinion, like Graham swan on test match live
-
Rob key, mark butcher and kp
Love kp's banter between current players like dhoni in the ipl
-
Was Danny Morrison the bloke who did this afternoons ipl match? The one who was laughing when pollard was about 2 yards short when running a 2?
-

Yes..in fact all the commentators burst out laughing seeing how much short Pollard was...
-
Holding. Atherton. If its short form, Lloyd.
-
I watched the Essex and Sussex game the other day and James Foster was on and sounded good.
But like others I'm liking Tres and Key because they've only recently came out of the game so know what's relevant plus they've been around the block, played for England and most of all theyre not complete tools who are arogent and up their own (No Swearing Please). Can't stand KP doing any sort of commentary along with Vaughan and Knight.
Swann is fun at times and Atherton has his own sence of humour which I enjoy. There is so many decent ones nowadays to be fair
-
I love Pommie Mbangwa's voice - he's not the most insightful commentator but he just sounds wonderful
-
Sunil Gavaskar
-
I love Harsha Bhogle, and miss his discussion on cricketing insights during the game.
Its too bad that BCCI takes themselves too seriously. oh well....
-
My favourite was the West Indian lady - Donna something? Really interesting voice and pretty knowledgable. Wonder what happened to her?
Donna Symmonds @FattusCattus she's from Barbados. She still does commentary on the radio, mostly. For me I'll have to go with Bishop, pretty straight forward guy. Tends to be a straight shooter, calls a spade a spade!
-
I like Charlie Dagnall on the radio. Rob Key has interesting things to say on Sky.
-
Atherton for me. Most measured, doesn't use gimmicks or superlatives were they're not warranted and doesn't talk for the sake of talking.
Also like aggers, swann, holding, nass. I mute botham, justbseems to be getting more bitter and sarcastic as he gets older. Despite what he thinks, he doesnt know it all, be that cricket or wine...
-
For 20/20 cricket the BBL commentary team is a mile ahead of anyone.
For the longer formats I like Holding, Athers & Warne. Key & Tresco have impressed me in the RL Cup.
Majority of the TMS team is fantastic although I have to turn off Blowers a lot these days.
Overseas I like the main SA commentator, is it Ackerman?
-
I like Atherton, but then I liked him as a player, when we were getting stuffed outta sight in the 90's he never took a backward step. And his writing I would go as far as to say not only the best of the modern writers, but holds his own with some of the very best print journalists over the years.
commentary wise have to agree with some above, Botham is becoming bitter and looks like the whole thing is boring to him, which is a shame as he's a hero.
Rob Key and Tres are excellent, a good like with younger players and the sort of blokes you might have a pint with(which probably will never happen) :)
Swann gets on my tits and thought he was a great player for us, Micheal Vaughan would eat himself if he could. Yes 2005 was legendary, but that's long gone(but never forgotten)
-
My favourite was the West Indian lady - Donna something? Really interesting voice and pretty knowledgable. Wonder what happened to her?
Donna Symmonds what a voice, she brought something to TMS that very few have.
-
If we're talking radio, I love the combination of Norcross and Marks. It's brilliant how they come at the game from a different angle while still calling what's going on.
Simon Hughes is dreadful - the worst, worst self-serving winker. It is not commentary if you just wibble on about what you want to while paying no attention to game itself.
-
for me, athers takes some beating, but i like rob key and tres they give a great insight into the modern game
I also like ian ward and for the aussie lot i heard a bit of ponting on the big bash and thought he was great would like to see him with sky instead of warne for the ashes!
-

Donna was on the telly commentating on the WI Premier league.

Must admit when Simon does his few mins summary on C4 Standing on the pitch before the break I go and do something else.
-
Thinking of the worst is far easier than the best.... but :
Best on oz tv : Mark Taylor
Best on eng tv : Athers and Nass , Holding and Lloyd are good too
Best on radio : Chris Rogers , Ed Cowan
And the worst ( guys who make me 2ant to shoot myself / make me require heart medication) :
Harsha Bhogle , Pommie Mbangwa , Ravi Shastri , Sunil Gavaskar ... but the worst of the worst , and winner of the 'I'm a muppet' award is Danny 'maximum' Morrison. ......i really , really want to swear now . ;)
-
Oh yeah , Mathew Hayden and Ramiz Raja are really marmite too .
-
STILL Bill Lawrie ( Bill and Greigy were terrific together)
-
Must admit when Simon does his few mins summary on C4 Standing on the pitch before the break I go and do something else.
"I've got 20 minutes, a stupid theory and a microphone - can I convince the feted ex-pro beside me that I'm on to something."
Rubbish :D
-
Longer formats I like holding but used to love benaud slick and great voice
love bumble in any lmtd overs as cracks me up and will never forget him climbing into someones garden for a lost ball during an odi
-
Athers, Nasser, Bumble, Holding and Boycott are probably my favourites I also quite like Warne and think Ian Ward does a decent job. As others have said, I think Botham gets worse and worse. Also honourable mention to Mark Nicholas just for the '05 Ashes memories and this in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsWT87mBosg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsWT87mBosg)
-
i know someone has mentioned richie benaud and i have to agree ill never forget the very last ball of the ashes 2005 test at edgbaston:
"Jones.... Bowden...."
as kaspr is caught down the leg side with 2 needed!
-
Must admit I've never had a problem with Mark Nicholas. Gotta be good at what he does given he's never played international cricket and the amount of egos he probably has to deal with. He's never worked with botham, mind...
None come close to Benaud, though. I'm just about to young to have listened to Arlott, though from what I've heard I'm sure he was magical.
-
Always remember what Benuad said re commentating :
Sometimes it's best to say nothing
Wise words.
-
The man upstairs has got a cracking commentary team - CMJ, Greig and Benaud, superb.
-
it's unarguable. Benaud was the best loved Aussie this Country has ever had.
brilliantly understated commentary, a legend! :)
-
Morrison is useless... Just like a bloke siren the pub. I like the aussie woman currently working on the ipl
-
Worst has got to be Alex Tudor
Most annoying I've heard ,
-
I've quite enjoyed Simon Doull over the course of the CT.
-
I always enjoyed Mark Nicolas on Channel 4 and 5
On Sky I like Atherton and Hussian for insight and like others have said Key is good too. And of course Bumble
-
Sangakkara's commentary seemed pretty good during the CT. Is there nothing that man can't do?
-
Aussie commentators except Shane Warne are very knowledgable and analytical which I like. Nasser and Atherton are very fun to listen to.
