Title: Something very special
Post by: Shinpathy on July 17, 2017, 07:58:47 AM
Arriving today, I finally got my hands a custom Virat kohli shaped BDM bat specially handpicked by Mr Aditya Mahajan  :D
It was quite a long wait but to say it was worth it is an understatement!!

I've never seen anything like this before personally... a absolute stunner at a weight I definitely did not think was possible given the specs....Truly phenomenal!

No Stampings and minimal stickers were requested by  :D....

40mm edges and around 65mm spine, pings quite well, feels more pressed than my other BDM's.

Anyone wanna try and take a guess for the weight??

2.9

I'll post the weight in a bit, let's just say i've never felt anything as light as this ever.  :D

Between 2,8.5-2,9.5 I'm guessing.

Looks a beauty.

I am sure if you are making people guess the
Weight......
you might need a weighing scale to prove the
actual weight of the bat. The weight is unrealistic
On this bat .....

Have seen a lot of pictures of your bats.....

Hope you are doing justice to them and putting them
To good use.

Thanks it is actually....:

It came fully wrapped and with some tags, showing it was 1030grams.

Absolutely phenomenal how light it is.... feels like holding a junior indoor cricket bat

It is a SH, standard length with 107mm width for the face.

Again just super impressed with this piece of willow!  :D

Was it as a request for it to be that light?

Any reason for the super light weight?

Just requested light as possible cleft for ~40mm edges and full profile... I have plenty within 2.9-2.12 so wanted to try something very light

VK shape is proper duck billed mate and so is this bat. As I mentioned, the bill LOOKS longer than a regular vk profile.
Can you post a profile shot with the bat standing @Shinpathy ??

That is unbelievable in that weight. I recently got a Titanium in the 2.6-6.7 range with a full profile and great ping.

Assuming these are so light due to over dried clefts, do they put on weight with time?

My BDM has not so far but time will tell. Let's circle back in a year or so.  :)

I think it is just the angle of the camera shot giving the illusion, will provide better pics when I have the chance.

2.4 is crazy for the specs, have fun tho when it decides to give up in in 3 months time due to it being stupidly dry. May as well make a 75mm edge bat out of Balsa wood
achieve the same outcome

Can't think why you asked for minimum branding, those othe BDMs are so understated...  ;)

Probably about time some of those bats got some use isn't it? Good luck in getting some good runs, your teammates will be expecting it with all the top willow you have.

What does understated mean ???
Title: Re: Something very special

It means subcontinent bats need to scream at you sticker wise to announce their presence , the gn legend for example has buggerall identification in comparison , i suppose it lets over 100years of bat making do the talking.

Got it thanks.
But this scream has made a lot of changes in the
Cricketing world. Everyone wants bats from India now.
As a matter of fact all brands are made in subcontinent now.
GN is old brand...... 100 years
BDM is also old brand.... 92 years
Apart GN every grand has made big stickers now.
Once GN short form comes on the bats they will also make,
Bigger and louder stickers.
Title: Re: Something very special
Post by: Biggie Smalls on July 18, 2017, 09:21:44 AM
Gn do it both ways . An old school , minimal classy look for the legend, silver, ultimate , prestige, elite etc , and louder stickers for other bats . If you think gn haven't had a crack at bats suited( or marketed for)  to short form cricket then maybe you've not seen a kaboom ? . Have a look at the stickers on the back ..... they are multicoloured fireworks after all .

Don't take it out of context guys, he obviously meant big brands. Yes there are small boutique brands / names worldwide where they make their own bats. Don't bait for the sake of baiting!!

Lovely bats btw. It's a shame that I'm sceptical of near flawless CA bats though, ever since the fake grain sheets made by CX surfaced and they started counterfeiting bats. :-[

You're making a pointless (in my view) distinction between a company and a brand . All companies have branding , and therefore , a brand....whether it be big or small. But whatevs .
Btw , if a company / brand has sponsored players in international or first class cricket ( like all the english ones mentioned ) , then i think they fit your definition of a brand !
Why do I feel like I'm on espncricinfo all of a sudden ?  :(

Don't worry I was skeptical too as the grains on the face were so straight but I did verify and register my CA Code with Zahid Javed the owner of CA, so all good   :D

most sureproof way to check for a grain sheet :
a ) take off toe guard ( this may be enough sometimes , but sometimes a grain sheet is also applied to the toe )
b ) sand toe a bit.... it will remove a grain sheet if its there . then look at the ewal geains running through the toe.

All top CA bats look more or less the same. Lots of straight even grains with very minor blemishes if any. Heck even the shape on all is the same. I've seen 30+ in shops over the last year.

Any way to check.... a drop of linseed Oil or water.
Drop it on the bat, if it does not soak..... you have your answer.
