Title: GM 2018
Post by: Vitas Cricket on September 06, 2017, 03:22:12 PM
GM launch tomorrow (Thurs 7th Sept) and we are delighted to be attending the launch (not everyone gets an invite, some have to wait until the day after) as well as joining some of our fellow retailers and GM staff for a Chinese meal and evening at the bar. GM are the only brand to do this and it is very much appreciated.

I assume as in previous years the range/catalogue will launch publicly tomorrow or Friday so keep your eyes peeled. If there is anything we are allowed to put on social media during the launch then we will be sure to do so :)

Will Samit be around again this year?

I bet he'd hit the buffet hard after his heroics this year, he's earned it!

Interesting to see how the new Gen Mgr has settled in to the role and how he's brought his experiences from another industry to GM

Not a huge amount which is eyecatchingly new. The bags just look like colour refreshes to 2017.

Thanks Tom.

Looks like all the images across the range are stock LE photos. Any idea of the grading scale?

I'm just intrigued to see where "Signature LE" fits in the scale. The Haze "Signature LE" looks a little plain Jane. Wondering if it just sounds like a top End bat but isn't.

Easily the classiest of the big boys.

Nice tweaks to a solid range.

Ah, perfect. Thanks again Tom.

This is what I'd hoped. The bat looks a very good G2 borderline G1, and that's what the grading suggests too.

Difficult to criticise the new stickers. Yes, they might as well be the same as last season. But last seasons GM stickers were my favourite big brand stickers. If it ain't broke...

So it would appear that 'ultra curve' equates to the handle being set forward a bit. Nothing new there

Found few good things about 2018 range of bats

1) One more regular length L555 option totalling 3 models.
2) Introduction of a Lite range even though if it is only for one model i.e. Haze. Would have been better if they had one Lite grade across the ranges similar to the kooka/GN lite models. Something like Chrome Lite, Zelos Lite even if it is a single G2/G3 model.
3) The haze looks mid profile though it says high. But find it better than icon/paragon shape which it replaces I think.

Nope, it's a very big bow too. Looks brilliant.

Won't be too much technical info from me until tomorrow, we're off to the bar!

Small sizes only for st30 range?

It's Sarah Taylor's range, designed for women

I've found that GM women's ( now small so it's gender neutral) is the borough equivalent of GN small men's. Why is it only restricted to the st30 range?

Is this now the case for the gloves too?

I'd go FKW if I could get the 0riginal or 909 in small.

Big thanks to @Edward Lowy and everyone at GM for inviting us to their launch, as always a thoroughly enjoyable experience, bettered this year by the addition of a net at Trent Bridge with all the new gear. I was interviewed post net by Cricket World about GM and the launch, i was a bit sweaty and hungover from GM plying us with lots of drinks so i'm not sure i'll make the edit if/when that video is released!

Whilst not overly important to most of the bat buying public out there, I must reinforce once again that GM are the only brand that treats retailers this way, coupled with the largest number of bats produced by anyone in the UK from extremely high quality materials by a team of experts who have more knowledge than most people could dream of having, you start to see why a GM product is usually in prime position in a cricket shop.
We as retailers get to see everything that goes on when it comes to manufacture, from tree to bat, we are involved by the brand in everything, from the launch, the feedback that goes into subsequent ranges, to always well received drinks at that bar!
The brand cares, about us as retailers, about you as cricketers, and supplying everyone with the best they can produce. As long as the product is top notch (which it certainly is) then you wont go too far wrong if you follow retailer advice and buy a GM bat made by England's best. :)

On a more range focused note, i like the fact GM have a bat with a big bow in the blade, this is something we do get asked about when it comes to certain bats/brands. Whilst i feel it isn't overly important, some people insist on having a bow so it is great to cater for them. Away from the bow, the Zelos also looks superb with the green fading into yellow.

The Haze is a nailed on winner at Vitas Cricket, anything pink will always be well received! Again the pink to purple colour fade looks great and for the first time in my time in the industry GM have addressed the question of weights on their bats. If you buy a Haze max you know you are getting a very big bat that will be on the weightier side (2'12+) whereas a Haze Lite will be smaller of course but will be in the 2'6-2'9 region.

Good solid range from GM. By far the most impressive big brand of the last couple of years.

Many thanks Team Vitas, great to see you at the launch last week. It is always such a pleasure to launch a new Gunn & Moore range and I have to say this launch very much went with a bang! We are extremely pleased with the reception to the range and are very excited to get it in the hands of cricketers in due course. Big thanks to all my colleagues back at base for putting together such a terrific, co-ordinated and desirable range.

Best wishes

Edward
