ok, first post :)
for my 21st this tuesday, I have asked for a mongoose CoR3. I am a little bit confused at their webshop as it has the "CoR3 series" and the "CoR3 custom", now Im slightly confused, but am I right in thinking that the custom is what it says on the tin: custom made? I believe there is someone on this forum who works for Mongoos so perhaps I could get an answer?
Cheers
-
Yeah, Leo works for Mongoose I think.
I was about to start a thread on this too, Healy, Nicholas and Slater were talking about Mongoose extensively this morning, fist about the short one (cant remember the name), then the CoR bat that Smith uses. They were really complimentary and even gave out the web address.
-
Tom is the member who works for mongoose.

I should be so lucky! As Harry said its Tom. Custom is custom made, you can go to their factory in Hunts and watch it being made to your specs.

yeah ever since I saw the bat I was interested in it, however when I saw the CoR3 I was very interested as I doubt my style would fit with the MMi3, in fact when I said I wanted a Mongoose the responce was "your not having that small bat", so a quick explaining was needed lol

yeah I was looking at that myself but we decided a 4 hour journey is a little bit OTT
-
I think they are made custom at Hunts County Bats, but not 100%, so you'd go there if you one custom made.
-
sorry, was a bit slow on the reply there!

All can be Custom Made to profile and you can add the personalisation, grips and if you drop me an email even specify the grain you'd prefer. The Series, Custom and Custom Pro refers to the grades of willow. Custom Pro being the highest (G1) whereas Series is G3.

ah so that's the diference between the 3, many thanks for clearing that up. I feel stupid for email mongoos now for asking the same question basicly lol
-
No problem, just means we should probably make it clearer as it seems a few don't know the diff.
-
Skully, welcome to the forum mate. forgot to be nice earlier!

after looking at the 3 bats it does say in the description what type of willow is used, maybe its me not looking clearly lol
one more question Tom, I know its personal preference but what is the ideal weight to go for with the CoR3?. Last season i was using a bat called "DER" from an indian company called derrohit, its nice but I never knew the weight, could be 2.14, could be a 3, Im not sure lol, it was slightly heavy
-
If it was too heavy for you I'd go for a 2lb 12/13 CoR3. I would think the CoR3 would pick up slightly lighter than the DER anyway by looking at their shapes.

thanks for answering those questions Tom, the order will be placed some time in the next 24 hours, that way I wont have to wait so long after my birthday (on tuesday) for my birthday present lol
-
If you order it tomorrow morning and drop me an email on tom@mongoosecricket.com I will try to get it shipped for a Tuesday delivery.

wow, that quick? Im hoping I get time to place the order tonight so its in the mailbox tomorrow morning, so when i do I'll drop you an email
-
I usually say 7-10 working days, however if it's a birthday/special occasion I'll try to meet that requirement.

Don't suppose you happen to have recorded that? I missed it, would be very interested to see what was said.
-
No didnt record it. They were talking about the short one (MMR is it?), Healy was describing it to the others, Nicholas had obviously seen it and further described it and compared it to an old GN bat they came out with years ago.
Then when Smith was out they had an extensive close up of his COR bat and said it was more traditional. Healy said he had been looking at it and testing it prior to the game on the square and said he was impressed, that it was a new company, go to mongoose.com for more info. it went on for some time...
He is an ambassador for Kook and GCCC i think, so he knows his stuff.
-
how much shorter is the cor3 than the blade of a traditional short handle bat?
-
1" shorter blade, 1" longer handle I think, like the Uzi
-
1.5"

So is there a sticker or mark on the bat that indicates it to be a Custom G1, or a regular G2 or G3? I mean, how would you know what grade of willow is used if all of 'em are called CoR3 ?
-
There's a sticker on the bat, yes.
-
^^ Cool and what would be the cost of a Custom Pro in 2.8 ?
-
Think i may invest in a cor3 if i can pick one up reasonable, got the mmi which impressed so as i said keeping my eyes open for a coR3.
-
hey tom, quick question: did you manage to get the bat done? I havent recieved anything yet, duno if you sent via royal fail or courier. Its not a big deal if its gona be late, at least you tried
-
Will be there tomorrow, sorry about that. It was made yesterday but there was an error with the courier collection, will definitely be with you tomorrow. Is a nice piece of wood too.
Happy 21st!
-
hey no problems mate, there are some things that cant be helped, thanks anyway for the quick turnaround. Im looking foward to recieving it now. Only problem is thinking about it during work is gona make tomorrow a very long day at work lol

-

oh god yeah ofc, we played bridgetown last 2 season, despite being small bridgetown has a lovely ground IMO
-
ah yeah, i didnt play those games but i probably will next year as i mainly played for them in the 2nd half of season. and yeah its my favourite ground to be honest, tis lovely!
-
well Ive just gotten home and the bat has arived and wow
tom you have outdone yourself, your dead right it is a lovely piece of wood, Im just gona take some photos and I'll share. Quick question, but I think I know the answer, I know i asked but I take it you didnt get a chance to knock it in? Thats not a big problem as Ive got tons of socks and balls and a wodden knocker

^^I tried to show the bow, which btw looks nice

I took a photo of the bat with my DER Birdie to compare the sizes
(http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/4207/sdc10544j.jpg)
I picked both bats up and I was suprised that the DER wasnt the 2.14 I expected, so the mongoose is slightly heavier, but to my advantage that will make sure I dont go swinging the bat because it goes faster, in fact a slightly heavy bat in theory now is a good idea

Oh c'mon - it can't just be me? There has to be an innuendo in there somewhere?
-
Lol ^
-
nice looking willow there bud.. happy bday..
can you take another pic of the profile if possible..
-
when you say the profile do you mean the face of the bat? Ive never taken photos of a bat before lol
-
take the same pic that you took with your two bats.. just turn the bat to the side so instead of seeing the face you see the edges..
-
@Skully. Looks good.
I am in the market for a used CoR3 Custom Pro ... but let me know if u wanna get rid of it at the end of season. I will shave off some weight and bring it down to 2.10

lol nah I doubt I'll get rid of this for a while
lol now we're on page 4, Tom will have to go back to 3 to answer my question lol
-
Yes, it is pre-knocked in although like all manufacturers we recommend you knock it in a bit yourself or at least show some care when netting with it first. I.e no hard new balls, play defensively etc.

yeah, I was gona give it a small knock in myself before the nets. Many thanks once again man
-
lol now you can start your career as a professional bat photographer..
@ tom can the custom have a lower middle?
- if yes and you have done that before, does the pick up and feel change??
-
The bats can be made however you want in profile, this is our standard one and what we've been doing for the majority of the pro's. Pickup will become slightly heavier the lower the middle.
-
cheers,
if you come across one with a lower middle can you send me a few pics..
still have to go over to dreamcricket and pick one up in person.. with all the ridiculous amounts of snow we been getting impossible to have a free weekend..
-
Looks nice - possibly not as big as I was expecting but this could be another possibility for my next bat!!
Dam there is so many possibilities!!!!
-
It looks very nice indeed!!
It's one I will just have to add to my collection in 2010!!

I must admit the size is bigger then I expected, I thought the 1.5 inch reduction would be a lot, but when I put it next to my DER I was slightly suprised, however when you pick it up and look at it alone you can see a big diference in the size of the plank
