Post by: batmatt on April 09, 2018, 07:05:09 AM
Hi everyone
Anyone had or used an SM bat?
What did they play like and did they have good ping/rebound
Any photos of them also please?

Knocked one. Meh. rubbish stickers. Underpressed. Took ages to knock. I was not a fan 2-3 season ago. Have not seen any since. no pics.

Used 2 about 5 years ago both undepressed and face cracked to hell quickly.

Saw a Owais Shah match used one getting refurnished which had the thinnest handle ever but went well.

There all around my area as local to me not a fan but offering good deals to local clubs/players
Ok if you like most of the bat covered in garish stickers
The ones I’ve held have been less than appealing

Have to agree with this. Bought one last year. Very big for the weight but underpressed and when I gave it for knocking, came back with a huge dent in the middle. Handle on the thinner side as well. Using that as a net bat. Will try to get some pics later.

Would be interesting if anyone has had one in the last year if pressing or handles have changed

I doubt it. also the stickers are garbage. Gum leaves a horrible mess and lifts.  Not export quality bats i'm afraid. So many better local and abroad options, why the fascination with SM?

i understand that. i think it is something you need to find a shop and really pick one up and see how it feels for you. Not sure if Hanif has any, but he did in the past. https://youtu.be/pNaiM1PQJEI

Ask him for his opinion.

I am sure they have something to do with BDM.

Not used BDM myself, but I understand they are a reputable brand used by many Indian players before they turned professional. Based on that they can't be that bad surely?

It seems like every 6 months or so that I wheel this beauty out because SM pops up again.

Don't want to take this thread too far off topic, happy to talk via pm if you fancy Dave, but I can't take SM Pintu seriously. Their branding is awful. My biggest bug bear is their claims about their handle. As you can see below, it's just a ripoff of something called the kookaburra smart bat, which was quickly abandoned by kook after crickets powers that be banned handle innovation, this all happened about ten years ago. Not only that, but the two SM Pintu bats I've seen both appeared to have totally normal handles. One was knackered and had been abandoned so I cut the handle and found nothing to back up the claims in this picture.

The other thing of course is that it doesn't matter if energy is lost through vibration, or heat, or whatever. It is still energy lost that isn't being transferred through the ball, rendering the whole idea fairly irrelevant.

The picture is from the website of the official SM Pintu distributor in the UK. They are fairly local to us so I've seen a few bats knocking about. Nice enough but didn't blow me away. Coupled with the branding and my knowledge on the handles was enough for us to decline the distributors offer for us to stock them.
Of course, as with many Indian manufacturers. Being the UK distributor is pretty irrelevant. If we wanted them, we would get SM Pintu bats from source, as I believe Arvind has mentioned he is able to.

Definitely a link to BDM, I believe the two guys in charge or both brands are brothers or something along those lines

Met with the guy who has District rights within UK and he mentioned something along those lines

SM (Sunil Mahajan) was the main person at BDM. After he passed away, his son started this brand on his father's name. So yes there is a joint family relationship dynamics here.
