Kunal Sharma of spartan in owzat cricket todat
« on: January 29, 2014, 09:02:42 PM »

whilst having the task of collecting my new dishwasher it brought me close to owzat.....so I went to have a look (be rude not too)
nothing in there to make me buy anything rather poor tbh
what I did notice was a bloody huge bloke and a little Indian guy who talked an awful lot,
thinking I had seen him somewhere before I noticed a huge array of Spartan gear...Kunal Sharma was the above mentioned and for made very interesting listing mainly about there bat maker(no names) and new bat ranges nothing really worthwhile but still made for interesting visit
btw he's relentless in his task to make Spartan huge so got to admire him for that Australia or pouring rain in Derbyshire in January...?
bats looked good esp mc ltd edition massive and no concaving but 400 sheets :o

It's half the price because it's a lower grade bat.

Spartan recoup the huge sponsorship they are playing the pro's thru the consumer, that's why the price tag is 400
A hh bat at grade 2 made a pressed by one of the best batmakers certainly in the UK if not the world  for half that
If there's ever a no brainer I think that might be it

It seems as if Kember has taken on some kind of ridiculous religious status. HH are a brand which sells good G 2,3 bats. That's it. Come on, relax.
Salix are new to cricket, new.

I was at Lords tonight and the TON bats, G2/3 are wonderful, and priced at around the £130 mark. Emperor's new clothes I think.

Can we get some context here. He's not the messiah, he makes cricket bats fgs!

Sareen bats are good value and there soft's even better. Pintu bats have rival them but must add it was direct and a one off
Is Mr Sharma visiting any of the forum shops???

Don't want to take this thread too far off topic, happy to talk via pm if you fancy Dave, but I can't take SM Pintu seriously. Their branding is awful. My biggest bug bear is their claims about their handle. As you can see below, it's just a ripoff of something called the kookaburra smart bat, which was quickly abandoned by kook after crickets powers that be banned handle innovation, this all happened about ten years ago. Not only that, but the two SM Pintu bats I've seen both appeared to have totally normal handles. One was knackered and had been abandoned so I cut the handle and found nothing to back up the claims in this picture.

i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00635/news-graphics-2007-_635119a.jpg

The other thing of course is that it doesn't matter if energy is lost through vibration, or heat, or whatever. It is still energy lost that isn't being transferred through the ball, rendering the whole idea fairly irrelevant.

The picture is from the website of the official SM Pintu distributor in the UK. They are fairly local to us so I've seen a few bats knocking about. Nice enough but didn't blow me away. Coupled with the branding and my knowledge on the handles was enough for us to decline the distributors offer for us to stock them.
Of course, as with many Indian manufacturers. Being the UK distributor is pretty irrelevant. If we wanted them, we would get SM Pintu bats from source, as I believe Arvind has mentioned he is able to.

Back to topic, Kunal is a unique chap, I'm not sure cricket has seen a brand owner like him before. The TON bats we stock around £100 are very nice, so I expected the Spartans to be the same, which they are. The higher end Spartans are really really nice, is any bat worth £400? Especially when not made in the UK? Honestly I am not sure, but large companies with big players on board need to recoup somehow.

I got mine from the source mate and agree about the branding i must have got lucky but being in India recently as well and meeting up with a couple of First class players Pintu seem quite popular handle on mine is as stiff as anything including the carbo core Laver.

Not sure of the overall quality of other bats this is one of the top grades agree about the stickers gurish at best

Sorry to go off topic

I like Spartan bats i love the Clarke actual shape and like there softs and there patriotic branding did they visit any of the forum sponsors.

Seen your pm mate, will reply in a min re Pintu :)

If it is anything like his last visit, Kunal will only be here for 2 or 3 days. He will visit all the big retailers he is dealing with, and then he'll be straight back on a plane. He did 3 or 4 big retailers in about 36 hours last time without stopping. Off plane, car, retailer, retailer, retailer, car, plane, home. Gotta admire the commitment. If I had his life I'd be on the beach everyday in some offensively bright shorts without a care in the world. I wouldn't be up and down the motorways of Britain in January.
