Title: Best Value Bat?
Post by: billyb on June 09, 2018, 12:51:40 PM
What do we think the best value bats are, around the £180-220 mark?

It's enough for a Newbery 5*, a GM 808, a GN 500 Light or 600, an NB 660, a Ton Classic, Chase R7 and so on.

What do we think offers the best value today?

Out of the above mentioned sticks the GM 808 is the best value for money. UK made unlike most of the others on the list

Go to Hunts County or contact John at Red Ink, I reckon.

But it seems Soulman's usually offering something very decent and new (but 2nd hand!) around the 2lb 10 mark for not much more than a £100.

Absolute best value is a Ca 5000 if you can get one hand picked. Some of them are bonkers for ca £100

Zx , bdm, rs, some ss's can be found in highish grades in these prices ....so long as the source is trustworthy enough . Same goes for ca's , I've gotten 150000s and big bangs in this price range .
Red Ink , Arytek , bb all look like they sell value stcks in this price range due to conservative grading . Gm apparently also does this and hates heartwood , so a grainy but partly two toned gm might be good value too.
Maybe a vks ss or aldred butterfly would be a solid bet too.

Smaller brands seem to be more honest about the grade/ performance thing.

People are saying good things about Jedi and plenty of people report great experiences of H4L G2s.

I have long moved on from buying a brand new, off the shelf cricket bat solely based on brand names and/or stickers. IMO, one should follow this philosophy only if he is a collector.

You should put 220 in your wallet and visit various sports outlets to pick n feel various bats that are within your budget  - and possibly hit a few balls in the nets if they have the facility available.

GM or GN for consistent performance in my opinion

I would add BB to that list

I have a couple that could fit your bill

So much good advice! Obviously I'd ideally want them around in a shop,  but that isn't possible right now.

GM, Ton, Jedi, BB are my favourite options so far I think.
Feel free to PM me @SOULMAN1012

Aren't these made by one of the brands already mentioned? Is it not cheaper to go direct?

Gray Nicolls I agree not always the best looking but ping wise always very very consistent iv always found and all the ones at our club 10 or so play well.
GM lot more generous on grading and looks

Those are off the shelf shapes, if you speak to @Neon Cricket you can get a custom shape.

Whatever route you go down the bat will be top quality

I remember when Jake could get you a Hunts custom G1 for ten pounds, a packet of Frazzles and a half-eaten Curly Wurly!

Same company just branded differently over here. Not too sure on the exact reason why, obviously the historical SS not being completely appropriate over here and that Surridge use the logo SS i think.

Any confirmed answer welcome.

So is the bat sold as ton branding in UK only which is what I have seen .

Only seen batsman coming out with Ton as opposed to anything else

Yep lawsuit from Surridge lead to the relabel as TON in the UK iirc.

Thanks understand now .

I have seen some great ton bats on the pitch .

What model is the best value for money Vs performance.

The above discounts each wood is different and can perform slightly differently . Generically the best model for perofrmmance and price ?
