4 of the biggest sides and all spot fixing and not game fixing as such

This stuff still happens and I think it would shock us to the core the names involved .

This will never go away unless spot or spread betting is banned

Not sure if the spot betting is legal, its underground.

6th March, 2011, ENG Vs SA.. the fix mentioned in the video seems to be this over...

9.6
1
Morkel to Trott, 1 run, dropped in short - not where you want to be on this surface - and Trott pulls it through square leg
9.5
0
Morkel to Trott, no run, ooh, a strangled shout as Trott is caught on the back foot but height was an issue and maybe an edge too
9.4
0
Morkel to Trott, no run, full on the stumps, worked out to midwicket without much timing
9.3
0
Morkel to Trott, no run, same man is in action again as Trott tries to find the gap down to third man...he should be alert for the catch, too
9.2
0
Morkel to Trott, no run, opens the face and it goes one bounce to the man at a very wide slip position...probably about third/fourth slip
9.1
0
Morkel to Trott, no run, outside off, jabbed into the off side as Trott suggests he expected more bounce

England Vs Pakistan , Oval 2010, bet was below 45 in 10 and the final over Manda ( less than two runs)

END OF OVER:10 | (wicket maiden) | PAK: 31/3 | RR: 3.10

    Fawad Alam0 (5b)
    Asad Shafiq7 (17b)

    JM Anderson5-1-14-2
    SCJ Broad1-0-3-0

Here's Liam for a stint on comms.
9.6

Anderson to Fawad Alam, no run, oooh, beaten outside off, Alam feels for this but it zips past the egde
9.5
0
Anderson to Fawad Alam, no run, this time Alam leaves alone with a real relish outside off
9.4

Anderson to Fawad Alam, no run, Alam shuffles across to off stump, defends solidly

"Freezing here at The Oval," starts my dear aunt Amita. "All to watch another Pakistan collapse." Hi Amita!
9.3

Anderson to Fawad Alam, no run, defended quietly once more
9.2

Anderson to Fawad Alam, no run, there is an air of Simon Katich in the way Alam starts outside leg and crabs across to off stump to defend here

Fawad Alam is the new man, in ahead of Umar as Pakistan look desperately to rebuild here.
9.1
W
Anderson to Mohammad Yousuf, OUT, Anderson strikes again! Nip-backer does for Yousuf! The batsman was unhappy but replays show it clipping the bails. He walked across his stumps looking initially to run it down to third man but it jagged back and Yousuf couldn't get his bat down in time. Top bowling from Anderson!

Mohammad Yousuf lbw b Anderson 16 (21m 22b 1x4 0x6) SR: 72.72

spread betting is just ripe for these sort of allegations, its doesn't mean players are involved

I would question whether this TV station is not in fact doing a dis-service to cricket by  not handing over what they have to the ICC....which they have said they will not do

Al Jazeera again, remind me what was the result of their last "documentary" on spot fixing...

If it's proved true it will absolutely p%$$ me off!

After the Amir, Butt and Asif fiasco I stopped following Pakistan cricket for years until recently. As a Pakistan fan I and a number of family members, have been to watch them at a couple of venues when they have toured.

I don't want to be paying my hard earned money and take time out to watch players spot fixing or cheating the fans even if the team wins. I'd rather they lost honestly than win with spot fixing thrown in.

if it turns out to be true... I can see myself stop following international cricket for a long time and just begrudgingly watch the world cups and county cricket.

Where's there's money to be made corruption will happen

A lot of the players if not all taking part in this will not consider this fixing . Or fixing the game as the result is still open

Reason being oh let's score 45 runs as opposed to 50 or do a maiden over

If you were offered 100k to do this in a world glorified by money and all sorts it may cross your mind

I am not supporting this but highlighting how likely or easily one could be convinced

You may well be right. Until we find ourselves in that position we will never know. However that still doesn't change how I feel as match paying fan.

It’s not always about money - players can also be blackmailed into doing it. Remember these aren’t small gangs but massive ones that have a lot of power.
They might have done it once but your always under their power.

There was a article last week on cricinfo saying on betfair exchange 20m was wagered on one afghan t20 game, this was more than the entire aus vs. Pak 1st test. Most of these smaller t20 leagues are easy money.

As for these allegations, there’s apparently a voice recording of said England player confirming payment afterwards

Agree blackmail can form a part and even a big part in all this

When your life is threatened or families life but they should tell the ICC
Straight away

Next issue is if the ICC would do anything or would the gangs kill them

Like Tell the teacher for bullying.. Doesn't really work when they will get away with it and make you pay for it sooner or later. It's not some snotty nose kid where one well timed snout punch sends them packing

So what's the answer ?
Title: Re: Uh oh new corruption doc
Post by: ProCricketer1982 on October 23, 2018, 02:03:57 PM
So what's the answer ?

To make the penalty for any form of corruption life in exile. Essentially if you cheat you are instantly kicked out the game. That way, people will still do it but the 'threat' of their career being ended is then very real. With the fact we've had some of the spot fixers in 2010 and sandpapergate recently and those players could/will be or are back in game just isn't a deterrent.

If you know that even a simple act of using dirt, sand paper, finger nails all the way up to match fixing will get your kicked out.. YOu will find 99.9% of players won't even entertain the thought as it'll be too risky. Add in the ICC putting more finances into education of players and the detection.

Good answer

But what if your life is threatened and your families

The ICC aren't helping what do you do then ?

You stand up or you don't. If you don't then you pay the price with your career. It's a impossible choice but there is no other way because when it comes to money.. people are corrupt

Can see how some legitimate men or cricketers May have been forced into this choice
Of spot fixing

Wouldn't want to be a cricketer threatened

It happens sadly. However, there is and can be no excuse for doing it. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? As we see, the line gets blurred and lawyers get involved and generally you end up not actually doing any good.. Hence we can't even keep out known cheats, let alone those who haven't been caught.
All sports will have it, the fact it's not caught is testimony to the lack of action against it
