I've just purchased a GM Diamond Signature as where i'm based we don't have the luxury of going to hand select bats from a retailer and I unfortunately have to take a lucky punt at all cricket related purchases.
My point that i'm slowly getting onto is that does anyone else agree GM might be onto something here from a brand exposure point of view by allowing product to get in front of more customers due to reasonable product at reasonable prices?
Do you think some brands are being greedy/forking out too much dough on sponsored players and as a result their products have had to sky rocket in price recently?
P.s- I will post some pictures and a performance review once the bat arrives.
-
Yes, I agree with you. Some brands are forking out too much money on sponsored players and we end up paying for them. £500 is new average prices for some brands quality willow. Where will they stop? I personally stop buying bats for now and only use custom made option. I pay almost half of what some brands are charging for a profile that I approve.

I'm a massive fan of the GM Signature range! You can't go wrong! Loving my Mythos Signature Cant wait to use it this summer.
Aye bats are a lot of money. Appreciate clefts aren't cheap and handles are made from cane from far east.
I think anything over £250 had better be awesome! Agree with @KW9221.
I think there's some fantastic deals to be had on CBF here and I plan to now buy bats through here from now on.. Which reminds me I impulsively bought some sl22 full spikes which will be going back.
Plan to buy some sl22 boosts and hopefully one of the forum sponsors will hook me up :) . Think need to more consciously support the forum more.

I agree about the GM signature range I must have bought about 10 since it was launched maybe 3 seasons ago and have been my match bats for the last 2 seasons and most likely again this year.
In terms of bat purchase I now refuse to spend any more than £150 on a bat as the signature set the bench mark for me in terms of performance and appearance. Most look as good as the majority of G1 bats listed by other companies once I use the benefit of the forum sponsors showing me the options they have and are always happy to answer questions and send specs.
In addition to my GM’s I have managed to pick up a quartet of cracking GN bats as well through forum sponsors or ex sponsors again all sub £130 bit I do notice GN are not always as good looks wise lower down but the sponsors hand picking has allowed some stunners to be picked up.
Again unless it’s an absolute steal in some silly PDC offer I will always try and support a forum sponsor be it for new bats or softs or repair work that I can’t carry out.

Judging from the kit worn by the junior players at my club, sponsored players do seem to make an impact on the kit purchased by juniors. The biggest recent example would be New Balance. They have come from no where in terms of the cricket market but have made big inroads to the kit that junior players buy through sponsoring a few big name players.
I do wonder what value there is to sponsoring a bog standard county pro though.

i guess for the base cost of a set of gear (maybe 1000 all in if they have a few bats) they get some exposure on Sky Sports and maybe if their lucky a decent knock in a big domestic game. I suppose the guys on the england radar will also command a fee but can't imagine you're average jobbing county pro gets more than free gear.

Not many get free gear,,, have known a few in the past that basically get at cost price but have an agreement or in the contract that if they get into a national side or TV exposure than there is some form of redress sometimes financial or next set of kit is free. Quite a few though if they are a run of the mill pro use the brand they have used for a while or support a local brand. Northeast for example used Salix all his jnr and early county years until he was put on an England programme and then wanted free kit plus to be paid and Andrew just said no for the pure reason he did not expect a return on his investment just because he was using his kit at that stage of his career. And he was proved right i reckon
-
I didn't create this to bash the pros for getting free gear I was more curious to see the feedback on whether sponsorship was a reason behind increasing prices.
Anyway I can't wait for the bat to arrive and hopefully it's a beaut!!

Gm have always set there stall out on how the bat are graded on grain structure/looks. The signature is just great value. Grade 2 willow at around £130, usually 5-6 straight even grains.
If you like heartwood then an 808 is where to go for multi grains ( We Have a diamond 808 with 24 grains!! )

What’s your view on how ready the Signatures are to go @Six Sixes Cricket ?
How much more prep would you give them, they feel a little firm to me (which may not be a bad thing!)?

A bit more on the toe for peace of mind, then get and use it. Bats are knocked in from GM, and they are happy to be used straight away

I'm a huge GM fan right now. Brilliant price points, great branding, great quality. Made in the UK too.
My 909 Diamond is probably the best bat I've owned, I love it (after only two nets though). @Edward Lowy , Keep doing what you are doing!
Imagine how successful they could be when we get the free to air games on TV, with the new exposure? Signatures will fly off the shelves. I wish them every success!

I used my haze 606 in the nets tonight and I am seriously impressed. The pick-up is excellent and I love the handles they use, it just feels 'right' in the hands. A few people at my club waved it about and couldn't believe it only cost a touch over 100 quid!

Regarding the Signature's - one thing that I've picked up on in the GM videos, is that they value the weight of the natural cleft (once kiln'ed) highly, along with the grains - so I wondered how they are, size-wise? The majority of Signature's that I've seen have lovely grain structure, but there will also be some that don't I'm sure - however it would be interesting to see if the bats are the same size as the higher grades in the same model.
-
As above, once all clefts are graded , they are stored into a temperature controlled room which I think is 20*c , along with the handles.
-
So presuming Gm get a similar split of willow grades where do these clefts come from?

most manufacturers are sourcing there own willow now, I think Gm said they were up somewhere between 70-90%.
Also how a cleft is split makes a difference to the end result

Ah yes remember that on the tour. It was impressive the attention to the detail and little things.
Handles are stored in temperature controlled room alongside the clefts to maintain consistency. Also re cleft size, they have the moisture levels of the clefts controlled and checked.
They are rechecked before pressing and if they are not correct the cleft goes back to the kiln/temperature controlled room (someone correct me, but it is def sent back in the process).
It's one of the reasons I have a new found respect for GM and would happily buy their bats online as long as I can choose the weight, even though they work off a pick up index :D
-
Signatures are great, but to be honest I think they provide great value at every grade. Definitely the best of the big brands at engaging with their customers as well.
-
What's the magic number then?
My range (edit:) for new bats is $250 (GBP 190) - $325 (GBP 250).
-
Needs a new topic for that, for me it needs to be something special to get me to part with more than 150, so many bearly used bats for sale on here for sub 150.

I meant new bats. :)

urm can I suggest you do an items wanted or speak to a sponsor direct.
They are nice guys you know, especially if you have reddies to spend.
This is a thread on signatures not boosts... you cant expect every sponsor to trawl through every thread
