Seeing people saying they have too many bats and knowing how many some of us have,
How many do you currently own (including those that are up for sale, but not ones that haven't arrived yet)
I'm at 4 but feel as though that will be towards the lower end of the scale!!!! and will be down to three soonish!
-
Currently have 4, which is very low for me.
-
After clearing out all my kit after retiring.... I have since somehow managed to get the group back up to around 24!! No wonder my missus is kicking off
-
I’m sure there will be a few on here with more than me @petehosk and @KW9221 being 2, but I have the following
- a pretty decent collection of around 45 classic GNs
- plus around 5 match bats
- 6 net bats
- and 7 or 8 others that are in need or repair or to be used for another bat bench when I have the time.
I have to hide them from my wife as she doesn’t understand why anyone would have so many bats - which bearing in mind I am a bowler is a fair point :)
-
4 Currently which is the lowest number in a while. 2 GM’s being a Noir and a Neon, 1 Keeley and 1 Garrad and flack. Gloves however has become my new thing with 10 pairs at the moment
-
4 for me too
Charlie French - my match bat for last 3 seasons
GM Ben Stokes Players Edition - on eBay but probably going to get another ounce or two removed
James Taylor actual match bat - it’s a wand but definitely on its last legs
Adidas bat - hand picked by a forum legend from a batch set aside for the Curran brothers, my nephew is thinking about buying
Can’t see me making any further editions. Tempted with another CF when I get the Stokes reduced
-
Down to just the 2 now after selling my previous match bat to a forum member, one TK made Pro bat and one G2 of my own that I'll be knocking in for next years nets.
All the others have been lent out or retired :(
-

That's a grand total of ~63 bats!!! Freak! :o

Neon G1 - Hunts Turbo Rev profile.
GM Purist 808 - Old school
GN XXX - Wand like
GN Pro Performance - With 47mm edges
Willostix Slugger - Fantastic feel and sound off the bat. Just too heavy for me at 2,13.
-
The cupboard under the stairs is really starting to struggle tbh. Im in desperate need of reaching the required posts or a free fee weekend on eBay.
1x B3 3 stripe Bespoke
1x B3 2 stripe Warner
1x B3 2 stripe Root
1x B3 2 stripe Kohler-Cadmore
1x Neon Cricket Green
1x Willostix Spitfire (On its last legs though with a creaky handle and a crack right through the toe)
1x Laminate refurbed by B3
1x GM Icon+
1x Red Ink in the M&H Distinction profile
1x Sondhi blank refurbed by B3
and about 7 others that are more for nets. Overall 17 but really want to cut that down to about 3-5.
-
I'm trying to sell a few at the moment.
Aldred Gold Sovereign
Aldred Supreme
Laver and Wood Butterfly
Icon Signature heavily modified
Kookaburra Surge 1500
TK Lam
2 I made myself from Red Ink clefts
Blue Room Bombora
V800
Salix Superlight
On the lookout for a Kippax but they never seem to get to Australia.
-
2, one BB I've used for two seasons and one of my own which I'll use next season alongside the BB.
Also just refurbed my old GM Canon but that's just for sentimental reasons rather than for use, so doesn't really count.
-
That's a grand total of ~63 bats!!! Freak! :o
Guilty as charged
For anyone interested the match bats are:
GN legend (one of the older ones)
Laver reserve
GN oblivion 5 star
GN XP80 1500
B3 Mull 2 stripe
-
I think I currently have:
2 in the bag, a Black Neon Two and a Pink Neon One
An older bat refurbed as a Blue Neon that goes like a train that I lend out (although the toe re-breaks every other use)
A pink Neon Players, it's ready to go but I have no need to change the two in my bag at the moment.
Then not in use (I really need a clear out)
A Chase Finback R4
A Chase Volante R11
An old SS covered in butterfly stains (currently blank)
A 90's Kippax
2 Hunts County Customs (G1 and Butterfly)
GM Purist 606 (the best shape ever!)
Ace of Elland Road
Scat
M&H Puma
Puma Gilchrist Classic
A blank slazenger V5 from the TK batch
2 sports direct GM Chromes
A blank £30 bat I used to practice with my bat making tools
CA T20 (think it's from circa 2009)
An old M&H with the classic stickers
Mongoose MMII (or whatever the original T20 version was called)
A H4L cleft I need to finish shaping
I think that's everything, but there may be a couple of others lurking in the garage :-[

I am feeling the correct answer to the question is ..... NOT ENOUGH!
Desperately searching out now bats as a result of this post!
-
In need of a clear out as I have accumulated a lot of cheaper bats due to getting good deals on them, but they have just ended up sitting in the garage collecting dust. I'm going for quality over quantity for next season!
1x BB custom (In need of a refurb as it was my match bat last season)
1x Phantom dark edition (Toe has gone on it, not sure it is worth getting refurbed as the split is all the way through the toe. Real shame as it's an absolute cannon.)
1x GM Haze 606 (Net bat from last season, will sell)
1x GM Zelos 606 (Got a good deal but never used, will sell)
1x Kookaburra ghost lite (Never used, will sell)
1x Laminate (Never used, will sell)
1x Slazenger V1000 (Great bat for 50 quid, will be my net / wet weather bat for next season)
-
In the bag
1 x Keeley Pro Custom
1 x Robert James LE
1 x H4L Butterfly
Beautiful but can't really get on with:
Salix Pod G1 - bought for me by my wife
In the metaphorical wood burner:
1 x GM Neon LE
1 x Uzi Black Mamba
Both have shoulder cracks and are justifiably ready to be retired.
Posterity bat:
Laver PB from the original CBF Laver offer. Was great in its day but now a bit dead.
-
2.
Gunn and moore Diamond
Gunn and moore zelos
-

Probably, but they’re all pingtastic, and I’m a sucker for softish pressed bats with straight grains!
-
I presume there all the Ben stokes edition?

Indeed.

Match bats: CA (SM), Keeley (Blitz shape)
Bats in preparation: Keeley Blitz shape x 2
Bats in storage: quite a few CAs, Keeleys, GN Kranzies, brand that rhymes with "performance free", LWs, MH, Kippax (old stickers), and an assortment of singletons.

9
B&S Supreme - lovely
Aldred Supreme. Utterly - lovely
H4L warbird monster - massive and lovely
Red Ink Custom - massive and Lovely
Affinity carbine - Lovely
Hand shaped by me, Red ink pressed and handled - Awesome
Phantom Something? - dirt cheap but a bit hard.
Vulcan Serbian willow - lovely
Jedi Zaramax - lovely
To sum up they are all good except the Phantom which is a bit hard.
-
Currently I got three bats and are as follows.
Match bats: SS DK pro & BB B4 shape
Under preparation: Uzi Phoenix test
-
Moved quite a few on since starting to make my own, leaving me with 9 functioning bats. Probably a few too many but may well shape myself another soon.
3 of my own shapes - one huge all over, one Root shape concave, one classic shaped. Mainly use these in proper matches.
Puma I've rebalanced - never quite got on with it before reshaping the handle and taking some weight out, now a great backup bat.
Aldred Silver Sovereign butterfly - wand, quite cracked.
2x Mongoose - one mmi3, one cor3, both rare hit and giggle outings.
GN Nemesis - as above, lovely players cupboard sourced bat but doesn't see much use these days.
Phoenix Black (local brand, suspect Hunts made, very old and dying so only sees indoor net use).
-
Not still got the two light Hunts bats @Jaffa , especially the lovely Xero/ Aura hybrid???
No unfortunately. With a well known ex formite letting me down a teammate was without a bat. So instead of him being without I let him borrow the hybrid. I kind of knew I wasn't going to get it back. He was happy to pay the price I paid for it.
If anyone knows of a H4L meant for Matt Cole in Hattori colours, let me know. I doubt I'll ever get what a paid for but would like to know where it ended up.

I have 2 match bats
GM icon SW player edition
GN Legends
-
One(1). A chase volante R4. Don’t know what grade it is(it’s got 10 grains), classified by a fellow formite for me as ‘probably 10-11 years old. Natty sky blue stickers.
Missed 2019 hoping to net with it before the year is out.
Bounced a ball on it seems fine to me, didn’t hit the ceiling but I’m happy :)
Roll on 2020!
-
Here's the thing though. I have around 15 bats at the moment, some bought to refurb and sell on, but the only one I ever use in matches is the Mrf Grand edition. Whenever I try another bat in matches I get out really quickly.
e.g. on Sunday I was on 10 when rain stopped play for 20 mins and we took tea. After tea, because of the wet pitch, I took out my net bat, which always seems to go great in the nets. But I started missing the ball and got out a couple of overs later. So how do you all use so many match bats? Surely one trusted bat is the way to go?

I'm thinking of getting a super low ceiling with the foam tiles just so I can hit it with a ping test ;-) I'm sure I'm doing them wrong!

So how do you all use so many match bats? Surely one trusted bat is the way to go?
Necessity dictates which bats make it to the matches. Some bats perform a lot better in the middle than others and are moved up in the hierarchy - like CA (SM) which is just a ridiculous trampoline! Not all bats, albeit amazing in nets, feel great in hands when playing a match. Feels matter. Distance a ball travels after rebound matters.
My main match bat (CA - SM) has seen nearly 7 seasons. It will eventually break. I have used my TK (Blitz shape) enough in matches that it is ready for action should my CA go to the bat heaven. That leaves two other TKs that I am preparing for match level. One came directly from TK and after some action in practice matches, I am convinced that that bat is ready to rock-and-roll - I have already cleared the rope with that one a few times so it is good to go. :D Ultimately, you want to focus on your batting and not equipment (or stress over equipment failure which could just ruin your weekend or next week. :D ).

I often wonder the same thing. What do you do with so many bats?

Put them in secret hiding places and pray they aren't discovered...

It's not that complicated is it? Beyond the favourite bat which gets league use only, the others need to be bats I can use. If I wouldn't consider using a bat in a proper game I'm likely to move it on. Retired match bats get kept around for indoor nets.
If your net or backup bat has a totally different balance then you're not helping yourself practise or if you have to change to it mid-innings - had to do that twice this year but since my spares are all bats I know I can time the ball with, it wasn't a problem.

@SOULMAN1012 Was one of the a GM Zelos? If so I think i was a bit late pressing buy!
-
@WalkingWicket37 I know I have previous but I have 4 bats now, I have 1 on my wish list and can assure that there will be no more other than that and that this will start the new season as my main match bat. This 2 GM’s going into 2nd and 3rd seasons respectively and my Keeley which is brand new.
What did I say @SOULMAN1012? ;) :D

Ill stand by the G&F being a match bat, in all seriousness when winter nets come round ill be asked by 2/3 people for a new bat for themselves as they know i always have a couple I’m willing to part with. I just do all the bargain hunting for everyone at my club lol
-
ive swapped between match bats all season based on form. used be the bubble legend as it has always been my go to but now the blaze 2000 has opened up towards the end of the season its taken over. might be a touch light but would rather that then heavy
