Title: New pad recommendations
Post by: dtl2018 on March 18, 2020, 04:06:37 PM
Hi guys I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some new batting pads? I currently have Adidas XT 1.0 pads that I've had for 2 full seasons now and although they are extremely comfortable as they have moulded so well around my legs, because of this they haven't got the protection they used as i found on Monday evening when i was wrapped by the sidearm.

Ideally i'm looking for decent protection (75mph bowling tops) without them being too bulky?

Thanks in advance.

Of your budget is the same as the 1.xt then buy the GN legends.
The 1xt pads are basically the same as the top of the range ss pads, so similar to almost every pad on the market protection wise.

Aero P1 leg guards. Lightest pads on the market for a cool price of USD 65 and less than GBP 60.

I like GN legends so much that I have two pairs of them. I highly recommend them.

Legends thirded, best pads I’ve used by a distance. Be aware they come up a bit small though. I’m 6’2 and needed large men’s for the first time ever

I have always wondered if Legends are really worth the £100+ price tag??

Another recommendation for GN legends.  By far the best pads I have worn in almost 25 years of playing senior cricket

What makes the legends so good? They look pretty generic in design but I haven't used them, so interested to know.

I've got a few of the all-white version in stock still or the green and white too.

I used the top of the range M&H pads last year (S100) and they were pretty darn good. Ridiculously light too. This season I’m using the GM Original LE, and they might be the best pads I’ve ever used. They fit like a glove.

Have you thought about the B3 3 Stripe batting pads? Light, comfortable, great protection and very good value...

Forgive me,but when the very best Test pads are available from India around the £40/50 mark, why do Co`s believe selling more or the less the same model for double the price, makes commercial sense ?
I accept own branding and shipping costs, marketing and an obvious margin is sought, but £100 ?

Is that £40/50 Direct from the manufacturer?

If so you need to factor in cost, trade then retail margins with everyone wanting to make a margin to survive as a business

It's almost like people are trying to make a living..

I agree the £100 is steep, but you're not just paying for the material imo, countless hours go into finding the right supplier, getting the right designs and picking the best materials, and at the end of the day you're also paying for your after sales care should you need it, alot of the time you simply don't get that buying from India.

And you have to factor in economies of scale, these indian brands would be making thousands upon thousands of the same product as opposed the hundreds or less being manufactured for small brands.

From forum sponsors Iv used Red Ink softs and they are very good all round. Protection is as good as any and price is reasonable for top end kit.

Iv currently got some GN Velocity 800 pads that I picked up from the GN clearance page on eBay for £23 with free delivery and these are as good as anything Iv used including the GM OLE and 909 pads Iv used the last 3 seasons. So good in fact Iv bought 2 pairs to last me the next few seasons.

Buy all white ones, then they match everything!
