Gray Nicolls seems to be aggressively targeting the Indian market this year. All big retailers and Online Stockists seem to be stocking and selling GN merchandise. Interestingly, the range seems to be a mix of what one gets in England and Australia with the sellers stocking the Finch,Mitch Marsh,Lynn,Bairstow and Kane models. Its definitely not easy to penetrate the Indian market which is dominated by the local brands such as SS,SG,MRF etc. but GN seems to be doing the right thing by flooding the markets with their bats, as I feel that is the only way you can target a big market like India. It would be really interesting to see how well they do.
They did try to get some decent names like Karun Nair and Manish Pandey but that wouldnt have got them any real visibility.
-
With the number of sponsored players in the IPL, I think it is a good play for GN, plus they have a big factory in India.
Then balance that with the lack of cricket in the UK this summer, they likely have stock that needs shifting, so why not get it out there locally and see what happens.
-
Those new models Delta and MAXX look massive and very tempting aswell
-
Saw a lot of those GN bats have high middles and thin toes.. Wouldn't fly in Indian market which is all about low/mid middles..
-
Here are some pics

@i12breakfree , what's the price of that bat ?

From the pics I have seen, there is nothing thin about these bats :)
-
@i12breakfree , what's the price of that bat ?
@InternalTraining it's 16,000 INR MRP in india
-
That's roughly £160 isn't it. Looks great value. Could be a good way to source gn bats if people like Online stockist supply them
-

And, these are made in India ?
-
Like most of the GN bats, these are made in india. Their release was planned for start of IPL . That's why they are also known as IPL edition in the GN catalogue.
I have seen a few of these and for the first time (other than GN Australia range), i am excited about GN bats :)
-
For a non Indian, Kane Williamson is like royalty in India so Gray Nicolls probably jumping on the right bandwagon.
-

Ok good to know. Maybe I wasn't looking at the right pics on phone screen before. But the pics shared above look quite good. And if ones like above are priced at INR 16k, that's good value IMO.
-
That looks class.
-
Really like what I have seen from the GN India bats.
They do a G1 powerspot too which is interesting
-
That looks like a great stick. I quite like these GN bats from different markets.
-
I think they have done a good job with the pricing. INR 16k (170 GBP) for the lower end bats and INR 40k (420 GBP) for the high end bats.
-
How is the handle shape on these?
-
These look much better than the uk Indian made ones. Is this the beginning of the end of uk GN......
-
How is the handle shape on these?
Round SS size handles
-
Has anyone picked one of these up yet? They look incredible. Very tempted by the Kane Williamson and Finch bats. They come in at $280 here or $180 from India.
No idea why Woakes has his own bat though!
-
Is this the beginning of the end of uk GN......
Monsterously unlikely.
-
Saw this thread a wee while ago, but not had time to post pics or anything.
Word of warning about the bats, they do come up to be a bit narrower than the max 108mm width. (Between 105.5-106.5mm) if this is something that bothers you, probably avoid.
They ping very well though, at least the ones I've had seem to. The narrower width means they can appear quite large for their weights. Handle wise, just slightly thin side of medium, kind of like the GN typical handles. The ping on these seem to be very good too, better than most off the shelf bats from GN that I've seen in store. In terms of pressing, softer feeling than most GN I've come across.
I'll pop up some pictures sometime this week!
-
The Indian made GN's I've seen have all been very dry. They go well but crack all to easily.

Better late than never!

Thanks @Chad for the pics! Just superb bats, shapes and pics. Also handles look decent thickness which is great as opposed to my 6 yr old GN which had toothpick type handle.. Big fan of the full square toe (understand not for everyone), unable to resist from getting one, but then difficult to choose as each is equally good :D
-
Perhaps this is also the time to show what GN UK is selling after charging the customer so much. May not be made in UK but they are pretty poor compared to the images posted earlier in this thread.

Wow, I love the Woakes and Bairstow bats.
Kane's bats have no concaving though, I've seen them for the last 3 seasons. I've also never seen the Williamson editions made in Aus have any concaving. He could have changed his shape to this recently though so who knows. Still beautiful shapes.

Well remember it is for indian market where people prefer lighter bats. They had to keep weight down to attract young players to these bats.

Fair enough but they are supposed to be "Player editions" which are the players actual shape. Thats why the price tag comes with them.
-
I'm close to going for one of these. Struggling between a stunning Williamson or an Aaron Finch... The Grade 2 model though.

Never seen a concaved Powerspot either and i dint think the bat Bairstow uses is concaved. Nice bats but I don’t think they have any resemblance to actual players bats with maybe the exception of the Woakes bat as that just looks like a square toe profile with a duckbill which has been a stock Pro shape for the last few years now
-
Doubt buyers in India will bother about the shape anyways. All they will look at are the lovely GN stickers and ruler straight grains. That is usually enough to sell bats at a premium :D. All the 'Virat Kohli' and 'MS Dhoni' profile G1+ bats in the Indian market are proof of it :D
-
All look the same shape to me? Most GN stuff seems to be a variation on that theme these days, mid middle with an offset edge. Not a fan personally!

Agree, they look like classic collection shapes but with squarer toes and just different stickers across the range.
-
FYI, the stickers are changing for the Indian Market GNs after GN Australia raised some concerns about the same labels being used for both markets.
-
My cricket guy has two gorgeous Woakes models in stock. They look pretty big (one is above 40mm edges) and the weights are decent at 2.8 and 2.95 He already sold the Williamson, thank goodness.
MUST RESIST ;)
-
I have a woakes here different shape slightly to Chad's with the toe going all the way through the toe.
My lynn sane one looks slightly different too measured both 107mm width the lynn-sane version is slightly smaller blade
-
Just pulled the trigger on a ridiculous Woakes, and some ASICS shoes. I tried to resist.
-
It arrived and it is phenomenal. Actually one of the best bats I've had on performance already. Very impressed!
Thinner handle than other bats (but I think I like that, it seems quite whippy), impressive specs and seriously, seriously pingy. Looks great too, the stickers are fantastic. Very impressed. I've never had a GN as good as this, for sure.
Will post pics when I can remember how to do it.

The Maax is a full profile different shape to Chad a touch mine is 2/9 40mm edge initial knocking in suggests a very good bat and bat is well finished and around 107mm
The woakes is a pig at the minute taps up average not really knocked in slightly narrower 105/106m face decent edge and not massively concave toe running the whole way through. Nice white wood but I personally don't link or will use
Handle thin on both slightly thicker on Maax
Shows the difference in profile as mine and Chad's
-
They look great, where did you pick them up from and what was the cost?
-
Online Stockiest
145 quid each plus 20quid postage
I'm not gonna keep the woakes (although I don't think my honesty works for me).

LynnSane looks nice!

-
Two weeks
Oh forgot to add the Maax is a slightly shorter blade
-
Really, I found it the easiest by far, certainly when uploading yourself. Adds all the tags etc.
