Newbery have a new bat called the Renegade.
The stickers are virtually the same as the Quantum. The shape might be more interesting, but I'm not particularly inspired by the branding. It's like they thought that the Quantum needed a refresh, so used the same stickers, added a bit texture and said look - a new bat!

Their branding and design work has gone down the toilet in the last 2/3 years.
-
Not just me that thinks a name like Renegade was an opportunity to do something a bit more in your face with the stickers than black and white?
-
So this bat is suppose to have 50 mm edges but agreed that the branding needs a big uplift.
-
Never liked the new 'badge/shield', much preferred the old branding and for a bat nerd the brand doesn't have the same essence anymore without TK.
-
Newbery have managed to pull off running the traditional heritage look of their branding whilst at the same time produce something that doesn't look at all modern. Shame to see them where they are now

Couldn't agree more, ever since the latest takeover things have gone rapidly downhill - but then that's what happens when investors are more interested in profit than anything else (not that it costs any more or less to get your branding right!)
As for the 50mm thing, I don't really see the point. They'll probably sell a few for novelty value but I can't imagine it'll get any mainstream support as the bat size regs are pretty well known now, regardless of whether they're followed or not.

If that’s the case they will either be A) super heavy and so most wont use them or B) concaved to hell like the M&H bats and the current trend is full profiles from the majority of brands.
Can’t see this being a big hit and also with a low middle pick up must be very bottom heavy
-
nothing exciting about this bat tbh.
shame, newbery used to be such a worthy brand at one time
-
I see the advertising say you can get it with 50mm edges, but I imagine that is the case for most bats, as long as weight is no object 🤷

You can, not you will ;) It's a shame because it would have been nice to see Newbery doing something a bit innovative.
-
I echo others, a massive shame to see Newbery in the doldrums. 10, maybe 12, years ago I'd say they were the best off the shelf bat you could get, both in performance and branding. Had a Mjolnir player grade that was an absolute gun
I get the feeling that the people running the business now have little to no experience in the cricket industry. Very sad
-
For the size of bat with a thin handle it just does not seen made to last more than a season. I'm no bat making expert but unless there's masses of the super light clefts around, the only way to get that big and keep weight down is to dry it out to an inch of its life. Add in poor quality hard balls and it looks like an accident waiting to happen.
From the C6 handle to shorter blade Longer handle (Uzi) Newbery have indeed lead for others to follow.
This looks like it's made of balsa wood.
Damn shame but M and H have gone the same way. I had a couple of Mjolnirs, an Uzi and consider myself lucky to have used two models of the very best bats around.
-
I don' t mind the shape of it, low sweet spot would suit my game. As others have said, the stickers could be improved.
-
Quite uninspiring from my local brand (not maker anymore). Brand remains popular here as for many in the county its one of the few places where you can actually go and pick up some bats before you buy.
Brand is a big hit with juniors especially with their focus on more accessible pricing and product

Looks like they are reading CBF posts. Made a quick and dirty sticker update :D
-
I fully appreciate that the aesthetic merits of branding is a subjective judgment, but I can't imagine anyone could look at that at think it looked good
-
Quick, pass the bucket!

This is just the 'performance' range, I think.

Jesus 😂

I find it hard enough to persuade parents (mostly) that Newbery bats are not made at the County Ground, Hove. Nevermind anything else.
-
Old models just went up 25 per cent on EBay.
I'm weeping uncontrollable football sized tears
-
Yeah performance range and available in 'just one grade' at £99. Doesn't say what grade but catering for a certain end of the market. But can't say I'm a fan of the stickers myself 😆
-
That's a good price for a bat if it really does perform.
-
It is. Although to price at that level you would think something has to give really. obviously grade being one. But also maybe quality of handle etc. Never seen one though, so obviously don't know what they're like.
Not sure they're aimed at serious cricketers/batsman. But as a bat for the occasional cricketer, bowler or someone who simply hasn't got the means to buy higher end willow, it will no doubt serve a purpose.
-
I had a Newbery phantom as a net bat in 2018 i think from IJC for £119, finish was poor, appearance wise looked fine but had a horrible pick up was very bottom heavy. This looks to be a replacement and is most likely G4 or velum grade at that price point. As has been said for those on a budget if you like the design is fine but I’d much rather a GM 404 if i really couldn’t stretch past £100
-
Those stickers bare some resemblance to the Newbery Oz branch, which I think was run as a separate entity.
-
must admit i've seen worse stickers (silver and black look good - some of the brighter colours are a bit vomit inducing):
https://newbery.co.uk/collections/n-series-range/products/n-series-senior-cricket-bat
if they are not made in suSSex and are made abroad there is likely to be a few poor lookers - but there defo could be a bargain to be found in picking one by hand - and fair play they are not covering up all the willow with stickers to hide any knots etc like some brnads have been known to
could be their version of the Chase R1 bats

I thought this!
Well, I guess if I wanted a bat like Newbery used to make, I'd go to Salix now. A Pod or similar.
I understand the goal of flashier graphics & a low cost bat. Just... Not quite like that.

Not a Keeley? Or other brand Keeley-made?
-

SuSFex?
-
Made by Chase

Made by Chase
I'd be surprised, Chase are notorious for being against sticker brands. And at £99.99 RRP Newbery would be buying them in for a stupidly low price - has to be imported velum grade or something of the sorts.
-
It was a joke, no?
-
Yes Dan did rather mention that when I had my bat made including a round up of local brands :( :D
Haha yeah I've heard stories :D

I honestly don't know what to say!

But you are a 'sticker brand'? The difference being you don't pretend anything otherwise?

Yep, pretty much! In reality instead of paying myself/a member of (hypothetical) staff to make 'Neon Cricket' bats, I simply pay staff with a serious wealth of experience from another company to do the hard work for me.
I'd love to sit here and say that one day I'd consider bringing all of the bat making in-house, but there'd be very little point - the sheer cost of setting up a proper bat making facility and the additional space needed to house it all would make for a terrible business decision compared to how I operate at the moment. Ultimately Neon is a branding company as opposed to a 'manufacturer' of any description which is totally cool with me :)
-
A fella in the Newbery shop at Hove County Ground claims to be the head batmaker at Newbery. At least he does to parents buying expensive bats for teenage sons. :o
-
But I don't think Newbery etc. pay 'hypothetical' staff at all. They still have to get the bats made, same as you!

Surprised by this as previously made very clear when visiting that they just sticker up and confirm bat grades in Hove

Only reporting what the parent told me. I expressed surprise, but he'd just shelled out a fair whack of his hard-earned on his (delighted) son's new bat, so you have to be tactful.
Since then the son has got sponsorship from M&H So I'll probably be requiring some more of that tact!
-
They have a bench with wood shavings that they use on Instagram all the time. ;)
-
I have two say both my lads had been using Newberry's bought from Hove and they have loved them. They all look very similar - in fact he was able to choose which stickers went on the blank bat he selected and they have lasted. Guess you just need to know what you are buying and understand they are not handmade in Sussex anymore. Eldest now has a Keeley...nice bat but bigger hole in my wallet
-
I asked and apparently the N Series is English willow.
-
Newbery have a new bat for its new US partnership, and it looks pretty great. I love the classy flags on the back. I've been impressed by their partnership with Cricket USA, and I think their prices are competitive with the discounts. Nice to see the Grizzly back, even if in name only!
