Title: Win a bat and help your club
Post by: mycricketgear on January 01, 2021, 08:25:43 PM
Tomorrow I’ll be launching a new project to hit a few specific things that I hope you guys will be interested in joining in.

1. I wanted to get more equipment in but couldn’t justify buying 20 pairs of gloves etc year.

2. A lot of people would love to own some of the top end gear but don’t fancy ponying up the money or it’s out of their price range.

3. Charitable donations have been drying up for many organisations.

4. Clubs (like mine) that have had to close because of covid restrictions are now in a dire situation.

So based on a recommendation from a friend I’m going to be raffling off all the cricket equipment that I won’t be using after I’ve reviewed it. All the profit will be split between a cricketing charity and the winner’s local club. The shipping will be covered so anyone in the world can enter.

Cost will be between £1-5 depending on what is being raffled but each raffle will have 2nd/3rd place prizes too. You can buy as many tickets as you want but the number of tickets available will be fixed so the odds won’t be ridiculous.

If this works out then I’ll be able to buy more stuff to review like pads bags etc as I’ll have an easier way to offload them after reviewing.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. And if you’re wondering what will be offered there’s currently a Stokes PE, Hales PE and two SS super selects amongst the lots that will be available.

I’ll be posting this message in other places so apologies if this isn’t the first time you’re reading it!

Oooft, if anyone thought I was thorough with reviews - they should give MyCricketGear a follow on Instagram. Puts me to shame!

Nice. I could do with another Stokes PE.

How are you going to do the raffle out of interest? A common and seemingly fairly perceived way is the National Lottery Bonus Ball system- just a thought

Don't do Instagram but saw your bat narrowing video on Youtube and thought it was good video.

The link for the raffles is raffall.com/mycricketgear, so you won’t need Instagram to access it. I will be doing videos on there though showing the items in more detail during live sessions so people can ask about the bats.

Raffall.com will host and run it for me, so I’ll have nothing to do with running it, just sending out the prizes once the winner is drawn. There will be a fixed number of tickets and multiple prizes to give people more chance and a fairer opportunity to win.

We’ll also have other items that we’ve reviewed to clear. Just putting together a mixed lot of stuff for one raffle that contains a Newbery Legacy coffin, GM OLE pads and a couple of thigh pad combos.

Hey @mycricketgear - nice idea! Just wondered if you could share how the money raised will be split?

For example on the SS Super Select the raffle totals £3.5k - do you have a fixed split on how the money will be shared? (X% to charity / admin fee / item costs / profit etc?).

I'm sure you'll get some interest off CBF, but I assume some will be hesitant to enter without knowing exactly where the cash is going (We've been burned in the distant past by this sort of thing that's all!!).

Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Thanks for the message. So obviously there are some costs involved, namely the items themselves, the fees that raffall.com take, the shipping costs (worldwide if the winner is overseas).

Raffall.com has some of the charities listed already so we can link them in directly to the raffle, they will receive 25% of all the money raised. If the charity (e.g. Lords Taverners) is not on the list we have made a request to raffall.com to have them added but will still be setting aside the 25% to send to them directly until they are added. After all the costs have been deducted the remaining profit will be sent to the first prize winner’s local club of their choice. Or if they prefer they can choose for it to go to another good cause of their choice.

The amount raised means we can cover costs by including overseas shipping. UK shipping would mean more profit going to the local cricket club portion as the costs to send would be much lower.

One thing we found out since starting is we're only allowed three active raffles running at the same time. So we’re offering to do a free draw of the GM OLE pads with an RRP of £149 next Sunday for anybody that buys a raffle ticket between now and then. Hopefully that means more people will take part. It also means you won’t have to wait for the allocated number of tickets to fill up to be in with a chance of winning the pads.

Feel free to keep asking me more questions and offering advice about how to manage things. On a side note, any recommendations for things we should be buying to review which in turn can be offered for raffles would be great. I’ve currently got my eye on a Laver Signature and maybe some more Oz bats. The stupidly overpriced Shrey helmet is also on the list, I would normally never buy something like this but if the raffling works out I can get it in to review and offload it to someone in a raffle.

One final note. As I’ve mentioned earlier the draw will happen as soon as the quota of tickets is sold (500 in the case of the BS PE bat), but what happens if all the tickets aren’t sold. The draw will still happen regardless of whether we hit that number. If the number of tickets is too small and we can’t cover our costs the bat won’t be sent out, but you will automatically win 75% of all the money collected. For the SS Raffle when fully subscribed it’ll be £3.5k so 75% of tickets sold will probably be worth a lot more than the price of any of the bats. That provision is provided by raffall.com not us. It’s a big reason why we wanted a 3rd party running it and not us, to help provide protection to people buying the tickets. Funds are only released to us once the winner confirms they’ve received their prize.

Nice one, thanks - just genuinely interested as anything that can helps clubs (and charities) is great in my books, being on a league committee I know all too well the impact of COVID on local clubs so anything that can raise a bit of cash for these is awesome. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help too.

Just a quick update. We've hit 200 tickets, and doing the draw for the pads at 3pm. If anyone wants to join the draw they'll need to purchase raffle tickets by midnight. Also announced the next free draw will be any pair of gloves to the value of £100. So if you enter before midnight you'll be able to enter twice for the free draws!

Hi Guys
Brought forward one of the raffle draws to 1am Sunday morning. Appreciate all of you who’ve already bought tickets. Could I ask you to share this in your own club’s group chats. Maybe useful for anyone who’s looking for a bat at the moment!

Just a quick reminder of the prizes.

2nd GM Eclipse Original £440
3rd GM Chroma Signature £165

Thanks to everyone who took part in the GM raffle. First prize went to Marc at CricketBatInfo, who immediately flogged the Stokes for a wad of cash!

The raffle for the DSC bats (First prize is the Hales Player Edition) is tonight for anyone interested in joining. The charity we’re supporting this time round is MCC Foundation.

Hi Everyone

We have another raffle running at the moment, with the draw on Monday at 9pm. We’re raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young in honour of Josh Downie from Birkenhead Park CC who sadly passed away in May.

Cbf members have been successful in previous draws with Marc from cricketbatinfo winning the Stokes, and Luke in Yorkshire winning the DSC Hales PE.

In this raffle we have the Ross Taylor, 2.10.4 nice grain structure, decent specs, love the pickup and pings really well too. You can see a video of me testing the bat on my Instagram page. Second prize is a DSC Pearla X3. Anyone who buys three or more raffle tickets will be in a bonus draw for a pair of Diamond Original batting gloves, only 5 names in that one at the moment.

This is the link to enter. https://raffall.com/266913/enter-raffle-to-win-gm-ross-taylor-pe-bat-hosted-by-my-cricket-gear

Any questions feel free to message me, thanks for reading this!

No luck this time!

Watched the review of the Malan bat. Any idea if you gave those specs to a bat maker what might be weight come in at?

If he’s getting incredibly lightweight/low density willow, how much would it be using a ‘regular’ cleft?
Title: Re: Win a bat and help your club
Post by: mycricketgear on November 03, 2021, 10:28:49 AM
Probably 2-3 of ounces heavier from a regular cleft

Raffle to win one of Dawid Malan’s match bats ends tomorrow at 9pm.

https://raffall.com/268839/enter-raffle-to-win-david-malans-bat-hosted-by-my-cricket-gear

Given to me to review by Yorkshire Cricket college, all proceeds going to the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

So the last raffle for Dawid Malan’s GM made SS stickered match bat was won by a player at Sheffield Collegiate (Vaughan and Root’s club in South Yorkshire)

The current raffle will close on New Year’s Eve at 9.31pm UK time. If Santa didn’t provide you with a bat this Christmas you may fancy entering. For this raffle we’re raising money for Help for Heroes as they have a cricket team. This year we’ve managed to raise money for Lords Taverners, MCC Foundation, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Cricket Builds Hope, The Professional Cricketers’ Trust and The Ruth Strauss Foundation.

It’s a double first prize this time with two SS flagship Super Select bats up for grabs with two retro SS bats as runner up prizes. The cheapest of the prizes is actually my favourite of the lot, so whoever wins the 4th prize will be very happy. The Super Select bats had a retail price of £750 when listed, but now SS have raised that to approx £884 based on the current exchange rate. As usual the winners also get free shipping so feel free to enter if you’re outside the UK.

https://raffall.com/169983/enter-raffle-to-win-win-an-ss-super-select-bat-hosted-by-my-cricket-gear

As the Super Select bats don’t belong to me there is a minimum number of tickets that need to sell in order for the prizes to be sent out. If we don’t reach the threshold then the winners get 75% of the money raised (which may suit you guys more and then you can buy whatever bats you want!) and as much as people have messaged me to “fix it” so they win, the Raffall.com website’s computer chooses the winner.

CBF has a pretty strong track record of winners with a couple of members being winners. I appreciate all the support the raffles have had with the money raised for good causes and the fact that some decent sticks have made their way to good homes around the world.

Unfortunately it looks like we won’t have sold enough tickets for this raffle, so once the draw is made the winners will instead receive 75% of the money collected from Raffall.com.

Hoping to run some more in the new year as I have plenty of reviewed bats that can be raffled off including some Australian GN bats that are on their way over.

Thanks to everyone on here that did enter, Happy New Year.

Hi Everyone

I've just started up a new raffle running til Sunday 10pm and we’re supporting The Cricket Asylum Foundation this time round.

It's a pretty light bat at 2lb 8.6oz, but bloody massive. So if any of you are looking for a new stick, maybe your current one is on its last legs and preseason is starting, feel free to enter. If you could share it in other cricket groups that you are in, that would be great too.  £1.50 a ticket and a maximum of 200 tickets. Free shipping anywhere in the world for the winner, so if you’ve got friends overseas they’re welcome to join too!

Thanks

Pete Rivis in York. Normally you can check the raffle page and scroll to the bottom to see who won. Or if you entered Raffall.com would email you and you could check there. In this case the raffle was supposed to end in 4 days but we sold all 200 tickets in 18 hrs! Next raffle has gone up and I'll post more info in a minute. Probably lots of people interested in this one I think!

Thanks to everyone who entered the DSC raffle that closed in a record 18 hours.  We’ve got something extra special in this next one. GM Player Edition bats are extremely hard to come by at the moment due to a lack of top end willow in the market, but I’ve decided to let this one go. It’s pretty much as good as my match GM I used all last season but with a full length blade.

The raffle runs until Sunday evening and the charity we’ve chosen this time is Sporting Chance Foundation based in South Africa, as this GM bat is the Aiden Markram Players Edition.

The link for the raffle is

Last couple of hours and we've just ticked over 100 tickets, so still pretty good odds.

FYI the next raffle will be to support Paultons CC, who were victims of arson. The photos really do make for unpleasant viewing.

Hi Everyone

The next raffle is up. After hearing about Paultons Cricket Club's pavilion in Southampton being destroyed by arsonists a few weeks ago, we decided that they should be next beneficiaries.

This time the prize is a DSC XLite Butterfly with blue/grey staining, so a bit of a double whammy for those that like both on a bat. The butterfly stain is right behind the peak of the spine. Specs are on the raffle page

https://raffall.com/291780/enter-raffle-to-win-paultons-cricket-club-hosted-by-my-cricket-gear

Tickets are £1 and the draw will be at 9pm this Wednesday 2nd March.

As always the winner will get free shipping wherever you are in the world.

Thanks and good luck!
