So after losing my inner thigh pad last season I decided to purchase another pair of strettons after enjoying the fit and design so much. So today come to put them in the oven left them in for around 8 mins went to check to see if they had loosened up a bit to find the outer thigh pad completely melted and bubbled. The outer part of the outer thigh pad has torn and barely has any Velcro left to attach the straps onto where as the inner one is fine the hook has melted a little bit but other than that completely fine. I don’t quite understand how it’s gone so badly wrong I left the first pair I owned in for much longer than this but these are completely ruined. I’m so glad I decided to check because if I’d of left them in for another 5 mins I might of needed a new oven. Anyone got any ideas to help as I’m not sure these are usable. It’s also got me thinking that in future I’m not so sure this is the best method of doing things and maybe to use another brand because if something like this happens out of your control your left money down and without a product to use without any argument as you can just be told it’s your fault not ours.

Have you tried contacting George directly? He really doesn’t strike me as a ‘tough luck’ type from having dealt with him previously.

Sounds like the temperature was way too high...?

Yeah don’t quite understand what’s gone wrong here the other pad it’s absolutely fine but the outer one on one side has completely torn and bubbled I wouldn’t mind if it was the outer section but it’s the inner and going to be against skin and can imagine it’s going to rub quite badly when running and sweating. On my previous pair I left them in for 12 mins and it worked fine but these didn’t even last 8 mins in the oven and I’m glad I didn’t leave them in a minute longer
-
What temperature did you put them in at?
-
Gas mark 3 the same as I did last time not sure if there has been a cut or something on one side as the inner pad is fine and the outer is fine on the outside but the otherside the Velcro has torn and is all bubbly and melted basically so probably going to need to cut it the skin off to stop it from irritating.

Contact George, he'll sort you out.

I’m willing to cut the hard pieces and get on with it as it’s only one side on one of the pads just a bit frustrating and can imagine this happens every now and then with the odd piece just thought it may have happened to someone else. It may well have got too hot like you guys have said just don’t know why only 1 bit would tear and do that and not the rest of it. Bit close to the season to be trying to sort it all out I’d rather just wear some shorts under the effected pad and get on with it. Just thought I would post my experience if anyone is looking at doing the same like I said before the first set if had were perfect but I’m not sure if there was a slight tear in the material to cause this or the oven is cooking my pad much faster than my food.

I have the same question. What temperature was the oven at ?
-
It was on gas mark 3 so 110 but the door was slightly open and it was only in for 8 mins on bottom shelf. Inner thigh pad was on top shelf and absolutely fine except the top of hook has melted slightly but can still loop the strap through.

Why 110 degrees? The how to guide on the website states 80 degrees?

Oven doesn’t work on gas 2 or less so figured I’d leave the door a bit open and put it on the bottom oven shelf and check on it, what I don’t understand it how it’s only happened on one of the pads on one side which leads me to think there might have been a tear on the one side and it’s shriveled up. Also with the inner pad being at the top in theory that one should have melted more than the other but it’s worked fine. Like I said in my previous post never had the issue with my other set last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the fire on a gas oven normally at the bottom of the oven? Even with the door slightly ajar, if you leave it on the bottom shelf nearer to the flame, it'll be hotter there...
-
I went off how our food seems to cook in the oven anything in the bottom barely cooks at all whereas anything in the top cooks properly. Like I said before I may have done something wrong just seeing if anyone else has had problems or even warn a few people that it can go wrong not done correctly. Being from Yorkshire I ain’t prepared to waste money on it so will cut the hard parts and make the most of it. At least it’s on the inside on the thigh pad so I can still strap them up just have to wear batting shorts to prevent irritation.

So please correct me if I'm wrong.
OP puts a product into a faulty oven and proceeds to heat the item, to nearly 40% over the recommended temperature. Then wants to complain about it being toasted, and that the poor manufacturer should be held accountable for said toasted item!
Think I must be misreading something here :( ?
-
I have to say I had a good laugh out of this. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
Now, that I am no longer laughing...
Having users cook a product before using can lead to such scenarios. I feel this is a fundamental flaw with cricket gear - they have to be prepared, in this case, cooked.
Sports gear should not have to be cooked, or knocked, or even oiled.

I’m also seeing online that Gas Mark 3 is more like 160C?! A quiet message to George and I’m sure he would be looked after but agreed that this thread is bizarre!

Maybe it has been misread or I haven’t explained it the best. The oven doesn’t work correctly the bottom 2 gas marks don’t light the oven and it doesn’t heat up fully so have to use a thermometer all the time to make sure stuff cooks correctly as we are currently waiting to having kitchen renovated and new oven fitted. I wasn’t stating that this isn’t my fault I repeated the process I did last time that worked fine on my last pair then I lost my inner thigh pad. I was simply asking if anyone else had any issues or it could be a thread to help anyone wanting to purchase these and avoid my potential mistakes. The only reason why I ask is if there could be something as simple as a tear in the outer skin before heating to cause this malfunction because what is puzzling me with it is if the oven was way too hot then surely the whole thing would bubble and melt not just one side out of 4 which made me think could there have been a tear and then when heating and expanding its shredded the skin and caused the outer layer to melt. Like I’ve stated multiple times the product isn’t ruined it’s cosmetically damaged all the padding inside is fine and it has mounded to my leg as it should but unfortunately the outer skin has shredded and melted a bit.

So half the time you're moaning cricket gear is too traditional and it all "sucks" due to the lack of customisation.
Now you're saying custom products are flawed because they have to be prepared.
You're not happy unless you're moaning, are you...

To be perfectly blunt, this is entirely your error mate. There is a reason the instructions had a temperature you were supposed to heat the thigh guards to. It is extremely unfair to criticize the product when it’s clearly user error. I have no idea why YOU feel dissatisfied - that right to feel dissatisfied belongs to George alone. He (and his company) didn’t deserve this.

This would be like doing throwdowns with stones and rocks and then feeling dissatisfied with the bat manufacturer

Uncle @Batoff , I never said I hate customization. I am a proponent of "standardization" as in standardization of specs so that you can easily order or buy an exact (replica of a) bat without traveling 3000 miles.
You just can't see me happy without moaning about my supposed "moaning". :D And, I had a great a laugh reading this thread. I am still laughing!!!!! :D :D :D
