Strettons Shredding or overcooked ?
« on: March 06, 2021, 04:28:45 PM »

So after losing my inner thigh pad last season I decided to purchase another pair of strettons after enjoying the fit and design so much. So today come to put them in the oven left them in for around 8 mins went to check to see if they had loosened up a bit to find the outer thigh pad completely melted and bubbled. The outer part of the outer thigh pad has torn and barely has any Velcro left to attach the straps onto where as the inner one is fine the hook has melted a little bit but other than that completely fine. I don’t quite understand how it’s gone so badly wrong I left the first pair I owned in for much longer than this but these are completely ruined. I’m so glad I decided to check because if I’d of left them in for another 5 mins I might of needed a new oven. Anyone got any ideas to help as I’m not sure these are usable. It’s also got me thinking that in future I’m not so sure this is the best method of doing things and maybe to use another brand because if something like this happens out of your control your left money down and without a product to use without any argument as you can just be told it’s your fault not ours.

Have you tried contacting George directly? He really doesn’t strike me as a ‘tough luck’ type from having dealt with him previously.

Yeah don’t quite understand what’s gone wrong here the other pad it’s absolutely fine but the outer one on one side has completely torn and bubbled I wouldn’t mind if it was the outer section but it’s the inner and going to be against skin and can imagine it’s going to rub quite badly when running and sweating. On my previous pair I left them in for 12 mins and it worked fine but these didn’t even last 8 mins in the oven and I’m glad I didn’t leave them in a minute longer

Gas mark 3 the same as I did last time not sure if there has been a cut or something on one side as the inner pad is fine and the outer is fine on the outside but the otherside the Velcro has torn and is all bubbly and melted basically so probably going to need to cut it the skin off to stop it from irritating.

I’m willing to cut the hard pieces and get on with it as it’s only one side on one of the pads just a bit frustrating and can imagine this happens every now and then with the odd piece just thought it may have happened to someone else. It may well have got too hot like you guys have said just don’t know why only 1 bit would tear and do that and not the rest of it. Bit close to the season to be trying to sort it all out I’d rather just wear some shorts under the effected pad and get on with it. Just thought I would post my experience if anyone is looking at doing the same like I said before the first set if had were perfect but I’m not sure if there was a slight tear in the material to cause this or the oven is cooking my pad much faster than my food.

It was on gas mark 3 so 110 but the door was slightly open and it was only in for 8 mins on bottom shelf. Inner thigh pad was on top shelf and absolutely fine except the top of hook has melted slightly but can still loop the strap through.

Why 110 degrees? The how to guide on the website states 80 degrees?

Oven doesn’t work on gas 2 or less so figured I’d leave the door a bit open and put it on the bottom oven shelf and check on it, what I don’t understand it how it’s only happened on one of the pads on one side which leads me to think there might have been a tear on the one side and it’s shriveled up. Also with the inner pad being at the top in theory that one should have melted more than the other but it’s worked fine. Like I said in my previous post never had the issue with my other set last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the fire on a gas oven normally at the bottom of the oven? Even with the door slightly ajar, if you leave it on the bottom shelf nearer to the flame, it'll be hotter there...

I went off how our food seems to cook in the oven anything in the bottom barely cooks at all whereas anything in the top cooks properly. Like I said before I may have done something wrong just seeing if anyone else has had problems or even warn a few people that it can go wrong not done correctly. Being from Yorkshire I ain’t prepared to waste money on it so will cut the hard parts and make the most of it. At least it’s on the inside on the thigh pad so I can still strap them up just have to wear batting shorts to prevent irritation.

So please correct me if I'm wrong.

OP puts a product into a faulty oven and proceeds to heat the item, to nearly 40% over the recommended temperature. Then wants to complain about it being toasted, and that the poor manufacturer should be held accountable for said toasted item!

Think I must be misreading something here  :( ?
