Trying to sort out 2 clubs, one for Saturdays and one for Sundays, to get to play as much!

Don't tell me you've upset your team-mates? How could this possibly be?

'Sky Sports News!' has actually been an in joke for a while in my very small corner of the sporting world. Seems it's more widespread than I thought. ;)
-
Don't tell me you've upset your team-mates? How could this possibly be?
I'm telling you❤️
You wish you're right,
Any other guess work?
-
After all these lockdowns, Level of interest in cricket is rocketed sky-high!
My club only have one Sunday team while availability is 20-25!
Want to play on Sundays as atm I can, contacted clubs, one said only T20 is available, others I've been waiting responses by Thursday.
Will have to pay 2x subs and match fees, but hopefully that will be worth the money.
-
If you're looking for a club a few bits of key information may help...
- where are you based (and how far you're willing to travel)
- what standard are you looking to play
- what do you anticipate your role in the side to be

All true,
Saturday club is like 20 minutes walking distance, Sunday one, looks like to be a train ride, looking to face competitive sides
-
Thank god that wasn't a vague, to the point of evasive, answer...

Thank god that wasn't a vague, to the point of evasive, answer...
Hahaha Jim, you might be right
-
So where are you based AJ?
How far are you able to/willing to travel for a game?
Are you a batsman, bowler, or specialist fine leg?
What level of cricket are you looking to play?
No point signing up for a premier League side if you play dividing 38 (or vice versa).
We're trying to help you here, but you won't even help yourself by providing the basic information...
-
@Batoff, it's been done mate 😀
Thinking on long term not only for current season.
Actually I've played against their Sunday 1st XI twice, previously and had good bowling figures and few runs.
A long time ago I took a catch at long fine leg 🙂
-
I can't work out if this is a wind up post or not 😂

Trying to sort out 2 clubs, one for Saturdays and one for Sundays, to get to play as much!
See the first post was just a statement of fact more than a request, I assume AJ is using the forum as some sort of diary for his thoughts

Anyone else getting the feeling that this might be published as a book in a couple of years?

@Kez, why are you sooo - - - -? Cheer up, I am in contact with 6 clubs atm, and I'll finalise 2 in a week or 2, does it make you feel better? 😎

See which one offers you the best sponsorship deal!
Or the best tea once things get back to normal!
Decent food swings the deal for me everytime! :D

Yes, good level of cricket and good teas on Sundays! Definitely mate, nothing else I'm looking for

cynical? astute? grumpy? I'm pretty content being any of them.
And good for you, I look forward to hearing all about it in the next installment of AJ2014's version of Conversations With Myself.
I am intrigued about which club(s) pull the short straw...
-
If Vienna is in walking distance for you, we have some matches starting this weekend. Friendlies.

Where do you reside, AJ?

Mark, he is sooo kind to invite me for some Sunday cricket, only condition will be to send me plane tickets, from Heathrow to wherever in Vienna 😀👍
Mark, I live in Tooting Broadway, London.

Oh that’s a shame. Just a little too far for a commute to Oxfordshire each Sunday…

Just finding out from putney cc, they're trying to waste my time ⌚🙂

How so? I hope they’re not insulting your undoubted genius by asking you to go for trial, when we all know you should slot seamlessly in to their 1st XI?

I think we should stop the trolling. Every single topic this guy participates in leads to a barrage of trolling. Getting a bit excessive IMO.
-
I'm not quite sure who is actually doing the trolling but I think it's fair to say that online personas can be quite complex....

@brokenbat, What do you mean by trolling? Who is trolling here?
I've been trying for years now to get games on Saturdays and Sundays, it has not happened often enough, so this year I made my mind up to look for club to be able to pay Sunday games, as I know that atmosphere can be very satisfying, being competitive and friendly etc.
I've put my thought on here, what's wrong with doing this?
I've set my availability for 5 clubs as I speak, I'll let you which one I'll playing for coming Sunday, if you don't mind 🙂

Smh... I was trying to help you out mate. Just looked like people go after you a bit.
-
I understand this idea might sound weird to many but I think if I want to play more games then this is my only option.
I'm in my 50s and love playing cricket 😀
-

Thank you buddy 🙂👍

@brokenbat, I got your point, you're referring to Suraj and Mark🙂
-
Just to give an example how are being made up and
I played in the 2s a couple of weeks ago vs Streatham 2nd, bowling figures 5-12-1, expected to be considered for 3rd, but they put me in the 4th, rained off game, but bowing figures 7-4-7-2, this week 5th captain asked my availability, I simply said 'no thanks'.
-
After my conversation with 5th, 2nd XI captain contacts and said he'll talk to 3rd XI captain but I'm no more interested playing in that club.
-
I understand it's age factor 🙂
-
Can't say I blame them, club availability isn't perfect every week and people who aren't willing to move teams for one week when needed are an absolute nightmare.
-

Valid point 👍
-
Just play the game any standard and enjoy it 😂 jheeze you ain’t a pro just enjoy the game! Be thankful to be playing after the amount of games cancelled last year!
-

Don't worry, you'll be an adult soon.

Agreed
Every word of advice helps.
Thanks man
-
Reality is that I'm only playing cricket in London for only 7 years, and due to work commitments never really settled in the team I play for, only it was the first season and that was a good one. And now I have to take everything in consideration and accept opportunities that come along and enjoy.
I'll stick to the club I play Saturday matches, wouldn't be more than 10 per season, but that's better than nothing.
One club has promised me that they I'll get next week onwards and the club, most likely I'll stick for Sundays, 10 games would do, I think.
I'm still waiting for the team sheet for one club, that would be likely to be only for this long weekend, or if they've regular space on Sundays.
Hopefully I've simplified my situation.
-
Quick update, I'll be playing Saturday and Sunday friendly games at new club, where most likely I'll play Sundays, if no other option.
-
Playing both days north of 50 is an impressive feat. No problem when I was younger man but I’d need a zimmer frame & prescription drugs to do it these days.
-

Hahaha Chris, I'm in middle of the 50! And I'm waiting to hear from the same club for coming Monday, might be too far stretched to get that game as well.
I'm a thin frame, I've been doing some stretches etc, walk a lot, trying to feel good, which is hard work,on it's own.
My issue is my throwing arm, never qeen good at all!

make sure you let them know you have played in a league game this season for your old club, just incase there are league rules about changing clubs once the season has started
-

True, but I've only played in a rained off league game and coming weekend games friendlies only matches.
Thanks again for the reminder.
-
Another quick update,
Saturday friendly
Sunday, Sunday slam
Monday friendly
Let's hope my performances will be good enough to write about.
-
I'm sure you'll update us whatever happens...
-
I hope you have a successful 3 days of cricket. The weather forecast looks superb.

Following your words of wisdom, I'll be playing another 2 friedlies coming weekend.
2 different clubs.
Saturday One, 20 minutes walking distance, where I've been playing since 2014.
while one for Sunday fixtures, a short travel by train, but all doable.
but plan to stick with them for long term.
-
Just a question- how common is playing for 2 clubs?
My son has played for 2 football teams sat/sun for years with no issues. He wanted more cricket over the summer- training and matches- but it just didn't seem to be the done thing. I didn't push it, and it might be because junior games seem to be scheduled for whenever is convenient between the 2 clubs. Again, contrasting with football where days are fixed to play (which avoids the difficult situation of being picked for both teams at the same time). As it turns out he is playing for 2 age groups and getting plenty of games, so it's just out of interest now.

Hi, don't think it's a common thing, especially for younger cricketers.
Can't play league in 2 different clubs teams.
What I'm trying to do is to play league on Saturdays when in the selection and play social cricket on Sundays.
It's very unlikely for me to play cricket on both days at my current club and I don't want to leave this club.

I didn't think so. In football he plays in a Saturday league and a Sunday league- so the 2 teams paths never cross. Cricket seems much less "structured" at junior level, which makes it harder for youngsters to play more cricket. There appears to be a total absence of group training sessions available run by companies. If you want extra training it's 1-1 coaching which is very expensive whereas with football he can play on a 4g pitch with great coaching for £5 pretty much any day of the week. That said, and in the interests of fairness, now Ollie is 11, and starting to show some talent and commitment there does appear to be a lot of people in the club prepared to volunteer their time to help him.

Club level cricket league is only on Saturdays, as much as I know.
For the rest I agree with you.
A talent will be always be recognised straight away, but they've to keep their interest in the game and work hard.
Just to give you an idea,
Played Sunday slam last Sunday with half the team existing of under 15s,
Then leg spinner came to bowl and he just astonished me with his control and furious fast yorkers hitting the stumps!
Think his figures were like 4-15-5, vs hard hitters, that's excellent bowling.
And that's what I believe is "Talent"!
And he's only 15 years, wow man.
-
A leg spinner bowling fast yorkers? Eh?
-

Never seen it?

@SouthpawMark
Hahaha Mark, I wish they asked for a trial, but they didn't.
Actually they do trial thing pre season but on that I couldn't make it 😎
Haha Mark
-
It looks like I wouldn't be getting even half the league matches at the club I've been playing for.
But I've 2 clubs where I could play Saturdays.
It's l looking more likely to the one where I'll be interested playing Sundays as well.
I can't let pass this season by because "strong availabilities"!
-
Reading between the lines, if you're not being picked because of "strong availabilities" they clearly don't rate you, and were using you to make up numbers anyway.
Sounds as if you'd be better off going to a new club, where your talents would be truly appreciated.
-

Yes man, I've read through those lines too 👍
I would like to think that I've found one, let's see, once all set, I'll update, surely, appreciate your opinion 👍

Just looked at the scorecard for last week.
Captain's brother played his first match of the season, scored 3 runs, captain's brother in law played his first league match, captain's friend played his first match, scored 0!
In these circumstances I'm sure I don't make a chance to make in this team!
-
Waiting for the transfer to my new club. Will try to play Sunday games, while awaiting for a go ahead.
-
Did you end up joining Putney?
-
No, their teams play in lower leagues.
-
Roehampton is good club, I've found that out as I've played few friendlies with them, their teams play nearly the same leagues at Putney. So decided only friendlies will be fine.
-
Other club is Worcester Park Cricket Club, who do play good level leagues, which I had nearly committed to.
-
Battersea Ironside CC is next to Spencer CC, to whom I've committed, their all teams play in higher leagues than the ones mentioned previously.
As I'll joining after 01/06/2021, I'll be paying £20 per match, what I think is fair enough.
But wouldn't be wanting to pay £20 for Sunday games😎
Earlier I've received confirmation from president club that my transfer has been approved! 🙂
-
£20 a game?! Extortion
Is that in lieu of having to pay a membership fee?
-

Yes 👍if the level is good then one match takes a lot of energy and will be fine to play Saturdays only.
-
You must be a hell of a player, Spencer CC will be lucky to have you.
-
You must be a hell of a player, Spencer CC will be lucky to have you.
No, not really, I'm not hell of a player 🙂
-
Talking about the luck🤞
J. Speller emailed to know if I wanted to play for Wimbledon 4/5 teams.
He played for Spencer CC 1st XI Premier league, few years back he moved to Wimbledon CC., fast bowler!
As I can't be at the nets due to work commitments,
He suggested: can't play as a regular but can be called upon if short of players!
-
With all these offers I hope you're going to enter the IPL auction!
-
James Taylor is coming to watch your next match - he has heard great things!
-
Jesus thought I had a lot of offers this off season with three clubs offering me the good old brown paper envelopes after each game!
I play premier league cricket and enjoy it. But would enjoy it no matter the standard
Just pick a team, enjoy your saturdays and sundays on the pitch and have a nice pint afterwards! 🙌
-

Yes, man, that's exactly my plan.
I'm awaiting selections for Saturday and Sunday, will hear later today.
At the same time I'm a bit worried about my left hand third finger, which is jammed, getting better, bought a couple of elastoplast rolls.

You’ll be right, I’m 25 and held together by KT tape and bandages! Two day cricket out in Australia ruined me!
Good luck this weekend

my middle two fingers on both hands are very weak/sore from years of keeping and i use these on both hands to field - they are washable and have saved me taping my fingers up all the time:

fleixibility is good and they are great for supporting damaged fingers

Interesting! Do they cover whole finger? Don't they fall off? What sizing is correct?
-

its elasticated material so they are tight and don't fall off - it slightly compresses which i like
i just measured from the base of my fingers and across my PIP knuckle joints - you can then check against the sizes on the listing - e.g PIP knuckle width = 2.5cm and i didn't want to cover my DIP knuckle joints - so 6.5cm was the correct length - to work out the best for you

Still waiting to hear back for Saturday.
I'll be playing Sunday game with Roehampton
-
Didn't play Saturday, due to availability 🤔
I went to see BICC 2nd's game, and sat hello to the captain, I'm no more interested to play for them...
Sunday, played for Roehampton, got the ball at around 6,after 1st delivery bowled, non striker got stroke attack. Match stopped and didn't resume.

Struggling to follow what is being said here but if it is along the lines of a player had a stroke/heart attack at the crease I really hope they are OK. Makes you appreciate your own good health.

He had half side stroke, he was able to talk.
Ambulance was there quick and I left the ground thanking God and praying!
Yes you're right, appreciating own health.
I don't want to die playing cricket!
-
Not playing coming Sat, not in the team.
Received text from the skip, "you're not in the team this Saturday but what I've heard about you, I'll endeavour you to be next match forward".
Don't know what he's heard about me? And why did not he hear that before team selection?
-

Checked with him yesterday, not in the team, strong availabilities 🙂
So far haven't played league game his year 😎
Let's see what's up next 🤔
Third finger is nearly healed.
-
Tomorrow's match will be on Astro Turf. Any tips, compared to Turf Pitches?
Would like to win the game, as that will open up the league...
Vs Croydon, Asian players, placed 2nd. Atm

Don’t wear spikes.
-
As rodney once said I don't know the difference between grass and astro turf as I haven't smoked astroturf
-
Don’t wear spikes.
Rain forecast, so gripper wouldn't be good enough in fielding.
Spikes are allowed for fielding but Andy shall I do when I get to bowl?

hahaha,
Is that Rodney Marsh?

Just bowl in the right place and you'll be fine.
Cricket is a simple game really, there's no need to over complicate it!

Good advice, will need to get them all out! Wouldn't be expecting much turn, if any. Planning to bowl eye line flight, and then see things go.

So, this is what luck is about! WPCC 3rd XI captain called in the morning to replace a drop out, what I accepted. As they were impressed with my bowling, most likely to play Saturdays and Sundays 🤞👍

Beautiful ground

I want to thank you to share your experience with this item, very grateful.
I'll always use them!
-
Oh my God!
54 deliveries of concentration and precision, only to show 2 wickets for few runs!
I bowled better than last week, beating batters outside edge again and again and again!
Ran out of luck after 2 wickets!
By the way I've decided to only play for WPCC, Saturdays and Sundays!
-
Luck gets me playing in 2nd vs Old Whitgiftians!
Even though I didn't play a game for last 3 weeks, I've been netting.
Will know by the end of game which way luck went 🙂
-
I was hit 6 first ball and then 4 third ball!
Bowled without any luck! Keeper dropped an easy catch!
Last ball of my 9th over was hit for a 6!
Bowling figures 9 overs for 24 runs for no wicket!
-
Once again wicket-less, one dropped by the keeper and one spilt by the slip, who had hamstring, during batting.it was a low catch on his left side, he stopped with his foot, instead of trying to catch with his hand, which is his correct hand, as he's a left handed batsman.
Another catch dropped by the keeper later on, off other bowler and we had a winning draw!
-
Same flight, different pace...
-
Big game for you next weekend then.
-
Same flight, different pace...
Exactly 😎
Tried it but for some reason... It came out like the same as last week's, long, on the middle stump! Was hit back, hit straight over the top of my head!
Think that when it's only my first finger that's the last point of release, it gets fuller than I like to, might be due less control 🤔
-
Big game for you next weekend then.
Some would say, hindsight, but I did say at the time that we should have more overs to bowl them out!
Bank of England needed 3 wins to stay in the league!
I said regardless how they go about the run chase, we have to bowl them out!
We didn't many runs in the last 5 overs!
For me that was a wasted opportunity!
At the end, last man comes in to face 1 delivery and survives!
Yes, next game is vs a team one place above us!
We have to win it, with all the luck.
Because week after is Beddington, which is going for promotion!
