I have a Puma Tribute 5000 which is currently being refurbished because of a couple of splits that it has picked up. It is supposed to be Grade 1 wood but it only has 6 grains, is this right for a £180 Puma? I haven't had the chance to get a refund, because if I did I'd probably buy a Fusion or something.
Anyone else had any experiences with a Tribute?
-
If the 6 grains it has perform well then it is right for a £180 puma - but if they dont id be pretty mad ;)
-
If you weren't a Sussex and Brighton fan, I would have to call you an idiot!
But what was wrong with a short trip to Newbery??!!
-
puma willow looks poor, my ballistic 5000 looked poor, but played very very nicely!

Good to hear, I'll make sure its knocked in sufficiently after the refurb and hopefully its performance is better.
-
so it should go just fine! took a while to get mine going nicely so just persevere with it, ask slogger02 how it peforms
-
i've got dans old puma ballistic 5000 and i agree with him completely, the willow looks dodgy but its performance certaintly isn't, it rockets off.
-
I went to VKS about 2 weeks ago, i picked up a Tribute 600 and the grains were really good.
-
i thought it only wen to 5000
-

Yeah defo a 6000 I picked up a few and they are mostly very nice!
-
i find 6000 are they same performance as 5000 but just look a lot nicer in my experiance

The Ballistic 6000 grains are average as well

Just got the bat back from the refurb, I must say it looks much better and my mate finished the job by sanding and oiling the back and toe. The splits have been fully repaired and the bat is sounding rather good at the moment. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to give it a go in the nets.
I would post pictures but it's late and I have no idea where the camera is.
-
Still got this and as I'm preparing for the new season I've had a couple of nets with it and haven't exactly enjoyed playing with it, let alone played well, unlike it was with my previous Puma, the Stealth 3000.
If I posted pictures do you think any of you could state a price and the best way to sell it, because I really feel I should go to a Custom company like Warsop and take a look at their bats.
Cheers,

yeah get some pics up and i'm sure we'll give you some price ideas.

There is a crack down the RH inside edge which was professionally repaired during the refurb with clamps and wood glue, the back and toe have been sanded down and oiled, and there is no toe guard because I was told if sufficiently oiled there would be no need. There was also a small parting in one of the grains on the face, which was sanded down and now is almost invisible. A couple of stickers been removed in the oiling and sanding processes.
Here is the gallery I made - http://img6.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p1010173g.jpg (http://img6.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p1010173g.jpg)

i would have said in the region of £50 maybe slightly less, it looks an ok bat but obviously the damage decreases the value substatially, it is saved by the fact its a 5000 model meaning there must be something going for it
-
send it off to puma mate they ut a new set of labels on it and make it look new again
-
My Puma Ballistic 5000 only has 5 grains and its G1 willow aswell
-
if it has 5 grains then its not grade one.
-
really apple?
From the Wrights willow website
"A Grade 1 Blade
A Grade 1 is the best looking blade money can buy, though it will not necessarily play the best. There may be some red wood evident on the edge of the bat. The grain on the face will be straight and there will be at least 4 grains visible. There may be the odd small knot in the edge or back but the playing area should be clean. "

Those looking for good Puma bats contact Arvind from Aswani cricket he has some really good Puma bats especially in the 6000 range.
Prices are good too
-
i heard some were else, that there had to be 6, i think its diffrent for every company
-
your right, it does vary - different companies adopt different classifications, however, they are more likely to upgrade willow rather than downgrade it
