Title: Talisman Perfect Storm
Post by: RoCo Da Pixie on June 29, 2010, 01:23:03 PM
Well after purchasing this bat from Mike last night, I would show some pics.

http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss278/roca123/Talisman%20Storm/

I cant fault the service from Mike, I paid him via paypal at 2100hrs last night, And he delivered it to my door himself by 1330hrs the next day, He even threw in some extra grips as well,

The bat itself looks a beauty, Weight inclusive of grip and stickers is 2lb 11oz, But feels very nice in the pick up, It has 11 grains with the odd one or two of heartwood on the outside edge, But nice profile and i am confident it will go very well,

It was a pleasure to meet mike and having a good chat about cricket, One in which we must do again, And an also for allowing my Cat to make himself comfortable on his back seat while he was showing me all the bats he had in his car, Inclusive of some nice looking laminates.

Looks really nice! I know Talisman is on the forum, but does he have his own company selling bats?

Wow looks really good. The stickers look nice with pink. I can't seem to forget Tom (Yartrk) words "Pink is the new black"

Mike has his own willow supplies and has a batmaker do the shaping and pressing, And he stickers them and sells through as his own collection, It looks a really nice bat and worth a purchase for anyone,

I feel this might be a bit like asking where Black Cat bats are made.

Either send mike aka talisman a pm on here or an email, he has a large variation of bats to suit your needs.

bat looks nice but stickers arent to my liking. Did you order it at 9pm and receive it in 1 the NEXT afternoon? so delivery time was only 15 hours? If that is what you are saying, how?

It was delivered by mike, he had some jobs to do in Wimbledon area and was kind enough to pop into Guildford with the bat,
I'm aware not all will like the stickers, but as the majority use black talisman stickers I wanted to be different,

I'm wondering if all is well at Newbery.

Why

Perhaps certain batmakers aren't entirely happy with the new ownership?

Well that's something the general public may never know but mike may be able to shed some light on the matter as he is close to them

Plus they were brought a while ago I thought

I hear Newbery have something pretty special lined up for 2011!
Nice bat roco, you can now join the elite pink sticker owners club - not many of us around!

Confused identity, perhaps?

I cannot comment on Newbery business deals or any part of their private affairs.

I will say that they have some new kit lined up as everyone does, I love the TT, but it is not going to be the leading bat......

I see a lot of people selling "Newbery" made bats, some are and some aren't, but should anyone make a big thing about theirs being "Newbery" made then they are to be avoided as contract work is private and confidential anywhere it is performed. Only the bottom end of the market would try to drag itself up on someone else's coat tails, mostly falsely if the Pakistani made bats I collected yesterday in London are to go by.

You were in London? You should have popped in for a cup of tea.

It was delivered by mike, he had some jobs to do in Wimbledon area and was kind enough to pop into Guildford with the bat

I don't drink tea

A thimble of linseed oil, perhaps? (Incidentally, when linseed oil is sold in chemists what is it meant to be used for?)

If you are south of the river then I might pop in with a few specials for your perusal...

I do not make bats myself, I supply everything from a tree to a grip. All Newbery bats except some children's bats are made by their Head Bat Maker, Tim Keeley.
Title: Re: Talisman Perfect Storm
Post by: Johnny on June 30, 2010, 12:04:34 PM
sorry to play devil's advocate, but the term 'Head bat maker' implies there is a team of less senior batmakers beneath him - so do they do the kids bats?
Title: Re: Talisman Perfect Storm
Post by: Talisman on June 30, 2010, 12:09:20 PM
There are 2 others that work in the main workshop, and another who purely finishes, Tim runs everything and makes all the calls, hence the "title" bestowed on him. Some of the kids bats are bought in as to make here would really bump up the selling price beyond what you would want to pay.

So is it possible to request a bat fully hand made by tim or is that reserved for pros as you seem to rate him highly

You can try Neil at the Chalet, he does put aside some pro bats for sale.
