I hear Newbery have something pretty special lined up for 2011!

Confused identity, perhaps?

I cannot comment on Newbery business deals or any part of their private affairs.

I will say that they have some new kit lined up as everyone does, I love the TT, but it is not going to be the leading bat......

I see a lot of people selling "Newbery" made bats, some are and some aren't, but should anyone make a big thing about theirs being "Newbery" made then they are to be avoided as contract work is private and confidential anywhere it is performed. Only the bottom end of the market would try to drag itself up on someone else's coat tails, mostly falsely if the Pakistani made bats I collected yesterday in London are to go by.

You were in London? You should have popped in for a cup of tea.

Mike are you a batmaker for newbery, as in do they outsource some batmaking to bespoke batmakers like you?

It was delivered by mike, he had some jobs to do in Wimbledon area and was kind enough to pop into Guildford with the bat

I live a stones throw away from wimbledon  :(

I don't drink tea

A thimble of linseed oil, perhaps? (Incidentally, when linseed oil is sold in chemists what is it meant to be used for?)

If you are south of the river then I might pop in with a few specials for your perusal...

I do not make bats myself, I supply everything from a tree to a grip. All Newbery bats except some children's bats are made by their Head Bat Maker, Tim Keeley.

sorry to play devil's advocate, but the term 'Head bat maker' implies there is a team of less senior batmakers beneath him - so do they do the kids bats?

There are 2 others that work in the main workshop, and another who purely finishes, Tim runs everything and makes all the calls, hence the "title" bestowed on him. Some of the kids bats are bought in as to make here would really bump up the selling price beyond what you would want to pay.

So is it possible to request a bat fully hand made by tim or is that reserved for pros as you seem to rate him highly

You can try Neil at the Chalet, he does put aside some pro bats for sale.
