as i live in oxford and have been seeing some of these bats around the area, i thought i would go and have a look.( what a mistake for my bank account). i went down there and had a look at the three models, after having a look at a few i picked up my new beauty a 2.8 enforcer g1, the bat has a 11 lovely straight grains, and 3cm edges
i also had a look at the softs and the lads in there said as you have brought a bat you can have the gloves for half price which was 20 quid, and just for extra generosity there added to grips and a clear face cover.
i cannot fault the boys in there great customer service and nice products.

Alter Ego Sales Push?
Nope, different market, I hope! But to answer the question fully, as you know I'm a bit of a bat geek so looking around cricket shops and tapping bats is a great day out for me.
-
You need to come out for the day on Tuesday, book it off and lets go to Lords followed by a trip to AJ Sports.
-
yeh the shop is in oxford, they have a website aswell, but it isnt brilliant and does'nt have softs on it

Yep it all dawned on me whilst making a coffee a few mins ago :D
-
Anywhere else where the trade shows are happening and when?
-
There is one up north but cant remember where though... mind you they are trade show
-
See loads of these around, they're either hit or miss. You either get a plank or a rocket. The 3 i had were rockets but lasted 8ish innings each !

I live a few miles from a town called Witney and play "very" social cricket for a beer/cider team,

I think there was one in Harrogate last year!
-
I think there was one in Harrogate last year!
Really? Did you go? Let's hope it's there this year again then..
-
No, I remember people on here mentioning one in Harrogate last year.
-
Ok, of all the places to pick in England....
-
I belive there is one at Twickenham in October as well that I'm meant to be going too?!?
-
I only know the lords one been asked to help a mate run his bit
-
what date is the lords one? missed it last year due to being manic
-
Can general public go?
-
dont ask me mate iv never made it down yet :) think its meant to be for the trade though to showcase the new products and get retailers interested in purchasing stock etc to sell in their shops
-
Can general public go?
Lords nope, it is trade invites only. I have seen some people trying to buy some show bats though which is quite amusing and a bit embarrasing for them at the same time!
-
Oh Right, What about the other ones?
-
I going to go to learn a thing or two for the future
-
blimey perhaps I wont be going if its invite only! not sure we cut it in the elite stakes yet
-
Piri Piri was there last year......so i definitely think your invited Tom!!
You would be silly not to go, quite a few of the larger sport shop owners are there deciding what to stock for the next year, good chance to pitch to lots of people in one place rather than going around to them.
-
Ah right will see what happens as im sure the london office mentioned at least one show weve been asked to attend....

I'm going Tom I hope, lets sneak into a Premier Inn but dont tell Talisman and SillyShilly until they are drunk we are staying in Londinium :D

Ah the big smoke where the lights are bright and the cider is scarce! :( sounds like a good plan mate be rude not to have a gathering the night before to swat up on sales pitches such as "look at the girth on eeee mind!" which will be my west county chat for selling a bat as well as hittin people over the head with one when they have a helmet on!
you wont find those techniques in the sales bible!
-
has anyone got any dates of the next shows, the ones where the general public can go. would like to get a look at new makers and products!
-
what date is the lords one? missed it last year due to being manic
24th September.
There are no shows for public as far as I know, there's 5 I've got in my calendar for trade.

They've asked me to present my soon to be released papers
"How Cider has influenced the Dynamics of Cricket Bat Making"
and
"Why a 50 pence should be used as a standard edge measurement for a Cricket Bat"
-
Pioneering theories those Norbs
-
blinding mate will u have a graduation ceremony with a batman robe and square hat? these are the kind of papers that need writing and are of interest not molecular make-up of a one celled micro-organism ;)
Not sure they do shows for the public to go and look at the new gear as it would surely be better to get you to visit your local sports shop in order to do so and generate them some business in the process in the hope that you might buy something??
-
Pioneering theories those Norbs
At "Norbs Bat" our motto is "Unus pes in furtum quod unus pes in talea"
---- "One foot in the furture and one foot in the bar"
-
Bit intellectual for me but it's an idea I can certainally get behind
-
ok does anyone know where the nearest cricket manafucturing factorys are to oxford don't mind traveling a bit, nothing to far though.
-
Chase at dummer ain't that far
Norbs owns/makes saf bats near oxford
-
cheers procricket i did'nt know it norbs was behind saf, that would be the best option and he lives 10 mins at the most away from me, i found out today
-
I belive there is one at Twickenham in October as well that I'm meant to be going too?!?
Ahem - as I stand astride Twickenham like a sign-making colossus, I think you will be needing an assistant for that day.
Think of all the free marketing signage you could bag for the show by 'employing' me for the day!!
-
Good thinking fatman! Will get the cogs into motion and find out exactly what the crack is and sort something out in good time
-
This is fitting. we can round a solid day's trading off with a superb curry and several ciders in Twickenham (wearing your helmets of course!)
-
Safety 1st.... safety always especially when pickled on cider! The dangers of passing out and injuring urself safely removed....drinking through the grill with a straw cud be potentially tricky!
-
Not a problem - you are on my 'turf' and I will look after you. Anyway, no-one needs a damaged helmet on a night out!"
