Title: my trip to onhand sports
Post by: hicko on July 07, 2010, 05:29:17 PM
as i live in oxford and have been seeing some of these bats around the area, i thought i would go and have a look.( what a mistake for my bank account). i went down there and had a look at the three models, after having a look at a few i picked up my new beauty a 2.8 enforcer g1, the bat has a 11 lovely straight grains, and 3cm edges

i also had a look at the softs and the lads in there said as you have brought a bat you can have the gloves for half price which was 20 quid, and just for extra generosity there added to grips and a clear face cover.

i cannot fault the boys in there great customer service and nice products.

Alter Ego Sales Push?

Nope, different market, I hope! But to answer the question fully, as you know I'm a bit of a bat geek so looking around cricket shops and tapping bats is a great day out for me.

See loads of these around, they're either hit or miss. You either get a plank or a rocket. The 3 i had were rockets but lasted 8ish innings each !

Title: Re: my trip to onhand sports

dont ask me mate iv never made it down yet :) think its meant to be for the trade though to showcase the new products and get retailers interested in purchasing stock etc to sell in their shops

Lords nope, it is trade invites only.  I have seen some people trying to buy some show bats though which is quite amusing and a bit embarrasing for them at the same time!

blimey perhaps I wont be going if its invite only! not sure we cut it in the elite stakes yet

Piri Piri was there last year......so i definitely think your invited Tom!!
You would be silly not to go, quite a few of the larger sport shop owners are there deciding what to stock for the next year, good chance to pitch to lots of people in one place rather than going around to them.

Ah the big smoke where the lights are bright and the cider is scarce! :( sounds like a good plan mate be rude not to have a gathering the night before to swat up on sales pitches such as "look at the girth on eeee mind!" which will be my west county chat for selling a bat as well as hittin people over the head with one when they have a helmet on!

you wont find those techniques in the sales bible!

24th September.

There are no shows for public as far as I know, there's 5 I've got in my calendar for trade.

They've asked me to present my soon to be released papers

"How Cider has influenced the Dynamics of Cricket Bat Making"

and

"Why a 50 pence should be used as a standard edge measurement for a Cricket Bat"

blinding mate will u have a graduation ceremony with a batman robe and square hat? these are the kind of papers that need writing and are of interest not molecular make-up of a one celled micro-organism ;)

Not sure they do shows for the public to go and look at the new gear as it would surely be better to get you to visit your local sports shop in order to do so and generate them some business in the process in the hope that you might buy something??

Pioneering theories those Norbs

At "Norbs Bat" our motto is "Unus pes in furtum quod unus pes in talea"

---- "One foot in the furture and one foot in the bar"

Ahem - as I stand astride Twickenham like a sign-making colossus, I think you will be needing an assistant for that day.

Think of all the free marketing signage you could bag for the show by 'employing' me for the day!!

Safety 1st.... safety always especially when pickled on cider! The dangers of passing out and injuring urself safely removed....drinking through the grill with a straw cud be potentially tricky!

Not a problem - you are on my 'turf' and I will look after you. Anyway, no-one needs a damaged helmet on a night out!"
