So with the season finally over what are your thoughts on the best XI english non international players on the county circuit this year.
My XI would be as follows
1 A Lyth
2 J Adams
3 J Taylor
4 M Ali
5 J Hildreth
6 J Bairstow
7 A Rashid
8 J Harris
9 C Woakes
10 T Roland Jones
11 R Jones
12 A Kervezee (Not english and has played Int Cricket a Fair bit but what a season and is apprently applying to become english)
13 J Butler
14 S Patterson
-
Trescothick would be on my list every time!!
He is no longer International and never will be again!
One of the best openers around, no contest!!
-
Not sure if that team has a wicket keeper? That can have Stephen Davies in the team. Peter Trego as well as Tresco is worthy of a game. Tremlett has been good to so worthy of a mention in dispatches.
edit - actually given that Chris Read was the title winning captain and keeper and had a superb season, he barges my biased Surrey choice out of the way :o
-
Tresco is undeniable an excellence player worthy of a place in any side however he is also old and will never play for England again and has also played for England a lot (Ramprakash is in the same bracket).
Perhaps I should have said that the 11 must have the potential to play for England in the future.
Davies is an excellent player but as he is with England at the moment I didn't include him and went for Bairstow as the wicket keeper.
Tremlett also worth a shout but he's played test cricket so i didn't include him
Trego is a good player but I don't see him with the potential to play test match's, maybe t20's or one day int's but to play in the test team you either need to be good enough to play as a batter or a bowler and the other string to your bow is a bonus in mho.
-
Rich - fair enough, all your points are sensible, but Bairstow doesn't keep for Yorkshire that is Gerard Brophy at the moment.
Having said that Bairstow didn't score a 100 all season too, he played three good knocks and that is really it...
-
would you not consider Foster to don the gloves?
-
Agree with Roland Jones - what a season
-
Chris Read is quality, I'm of the opinion your keeper should be great with the gloves and batting is a bonus.
-
Read has been excellent with the bat - seeing as Notts top order have been fitful at best, Read, Ali Brown, Franks and Mullaney have all been good at arresting collapses and building winning totals.
Darren Stevens deserves an honorary mention, fine individual performances in a VERY troubled team.
-
I'm glad you've got Moeen Ali in there, he's had an excellent season for Worcs. Also I would've liked to have seen Trego in there. Tresco is a must.
What about Mustard for the Keeper role?
-
Both Read and Foster are good keepers, Foster one of the best in the world.
However I have doubt's over Fosters batting in a Test match and in both their case's I'm looking for more youthful players.
Mustard I believe is behind Prior, Davies, Read and Prior so although he is good player I think there are better players around.
Although Bairstow hasn't kept wicket this season (which I agree means he is unproven) I think this has more to do with Bropheys fielding than Bairstows keeping.
-
Doesn't Buttler from Somerset keep wicket altho' I know Keiswetter has been keeping for Somerset?
-
Kervezee is a quality bat and an awesome fielder.
He plays at my local club Bromsgrove when not playing for Worcs.
7 games played this season and pretty good stats

I can't comment on very many players as have no TV so only see certain players in the flesh and read the reports.
From Somerset I'd have to say that Hildreth, Trego and Butler have had great seasons for your list. Also been very impressed by Adams at Hampshire.

I am not sure how Hyphen can warrant a place, He has not done much from a batting point of view, He seems to only play one way, And i am a surrey fan myself,
-
I was clutching at straws looking to get decent players, not likely to be picked but qualifying for England - and while he can only play one way - he is extremly talented so for the purposes of this team he getes the nod.

I agree he has promise, but I feel he needs to learn when to attack and when to defend and build a total, Hales from Notts, Would get a nod from me, Or even James Vince.
-
Steven Croft played nicely when I saw him, perhaps a better bet than the acronym
-
Jack brooks has had a good year for northants. Defo moeen ali in there, my favourite county player this season.I like hamilton brown too

No love for Gemaal Hussain guys? Went off the boil a bit but still took 60odd wickets.

essex mate, have you even looked at that side? you've got 4, maybe 5 openers there... lyth trezzer rudolph adams carberry will all bat top 3. you shouldn't go by most runs on its own either. things like runs/games ratio (i.e. average), grounds they play on i suppose (taunton is a riot for batsmen, compared to say, trent bridge which is a swing bowler's paradise), also come into account!
-
only 4 bowlers aswell, and two of them are leg-spinners!
