Title: Sky exclusivitiy for the Ashes?

For those of us without Sky is this really true - that we aren't even going to get any highlights of the Ashes? If it is then that is ridiculous. Harrumph!!!

Cricket Australia are still inviting bidders for terestrial highlights.  They just haven't received them as yet, as far as I am aware.  I'm sure someone will snap them up.

If not there's always the faithful old internet.  I'm sure you would be able to find a feed somewhere.

I just had Sky+HD put in this week, so I'm good to go :-)

Due to the time difference, whoever is going to show will almost be a day behind realistically. By the time you get to watch it you'd have heard/read so much about it its going to be a bit old anyway

I'm a very lucky boy in that my cousin works for Sky Sports, so I have a friends and family deal.  Only costing me £42 per month including phone and broadband, and I have the full package.

None of the UK terrestrial channels will bid as Cricket Australia are charging too high a price.

I don't pay for sky sports because I feel like I'm subsidising football. If only you could pay for the sports you like, the Masters going to sky is the icing on the cake. Fortunately there are many places you can watch highlights nowadays.

Seems a bit unfair on terrestrial viewers
However I do prefer Sky coverage alot better than Channel 5 or BBC back in the days

I tend to only pay for Sky Sports on the basic sport package in the summer so I can watch the cricket. As you can canel after a month, May to August usually works fine, then I am not paying for football, and winter cricket times are usually so far out from when I can actually watch them that I don't feel like I'm paying for football.

I love having Sky especially the sports in HD, although a lad on work makes a good point. He does not have sky and admits his kids are missing out on watching sports and then wanting to go and try them or re-enact the moments they have seen. I remember going out after watching a moment of magic and going out and re-enacting them.

Wonder how many kids are missing out on seeing and trying a new sport and who knows, possibly making a career out of it.

great post. I still remember the 2005 series and the stunning images of hundreds of supporters locked out of the venues due to sold out tickets. So many clubs reported higher colt numbers and the parks were full of kids trying to emulate Freddie lol. Its a real shame, but I think cricket has got too big and expensive for the free channels like BBC, Channel4 and Five.

I preferred the Channel 4 coverage, Mark Nicholas was a small price to pay for not having to listen to Botham or Knight.

I may have to purchase sky sports for the Ashes if there isn't any other deals sorted out - Usually I steam stuff online, however for such a series it's definately worth the money consdiering we've got the HD package.

Don't know if anyone else has had an offer from Sky through but I have been offered Sky Sports for half price for 3 months (so £10 a month) so might be worth calling them and asking for the offer (think it ends 25th November and also can get Sky Movies half price for 3 months which is £8 a month). My wife couldn't have got me a better Xmas present, although once the Ashes are on she may not be so keen...
