Seeing as these winters are long and arduous without any cricket, it would be good to find out a bit more about our forum members, their kit, superstitions or any daft stories they have to tell...
What is the most important / favourite bit of kit in your bag and why? Is there a tale, superstition, ritual behind it?
(If a member wishes to cite a particular bat then a story of grandeur and swashbuckling strokeplay must accompany it)
:)

has to be my bat and a 51 ball 124 i scored with it on a hungover sunday....
-
A bat which by the name of rocket (m and h custom) was stuck to the roof of my changing room by duck tape. i used it in the match and ended up with 124 off 53 balls. just beat me by one ball! ^^^ sadly the bat snapped in half this summer as did 6 others. sad times.
-
I couldn't manage without my bag of odds and ends (sunglasses, suncream, tape etc).
Bat wise it would have to be my first proper bat, a G2 Ace of Elland that scored me my first 50 and promptly dispatched a straight 6 in an u15 cup final to win the game....off the final ball of the innings.
but
My favourite bit of kit is my 1st XI school cap, completely battered and nigh on drained of colour, bleached from the sun/sweat but is an ever present in the kitbag.
-
Not really a superstition but whenever I've put a face cover on my (Ayrtek) bat the next innings I've got atleast 50.
I put a hammer edge on my bat before the game in which I got 110, the next top scorer for our team got 26 which is the same sort of story with their innings with the top scorer getting 98* and second top scorer getting 32. We won though so it's all good.

i guess my solitaire is my fav bit of kit at mo.
got it and couldnt belive how good it was.
i remember the 1st six i hit with it lol
i went for a lofted shot over mid on and i was way to early on it and it went so high in the air thought it was gonna be a dolly but it just kept going and going and going!
still makes my arms ache when using it with bowling machine because balls are coming so frequiently!
but it will be intresting to see if the lekka takes over!

I would have to say it would have been be my GN nitro extreme signed by ST as it was amazing ! but unfortunately the handle snapped off and now i would say my Redback batting pads they are so light !!
-
If I have to take one thing to a cricket match without which I would not go it would be my box. I don't generally wear thigh guards so the rest I could borrow off my mates for a match.
-
i think my nike spikes, hate no being comfy and these just make my whole game feel easier when batting and bowling!
-
Are the nike spikes any good pep? Toyed with the idea of spiking some Asics or getting a pair of those
-
they are lovely, so comfy and padded and dont look half bad either.. some good deals going down on them on a few webbys atm too!
-
M&H Custom, changed me from being a leg-spinner who bats 11 to an opening batsman in half a season :D

Must have been some game, Joe. I'd love to be knocking around 100s/50s at will, like you've seemed to have done!! I reckon 2011 will be my year though :D
-
My Aussie Test lid !
Looks the part, convo starter, never got a duck wearing it... voodoo lid !

anything to do with the SAF ?
-
A lot to do with it, Mike. That and, in 2010, I was a yo-yo man, going around from team to team in Adult Cricket, in only my 1st season of it. I'd like to settle in one team in 2011, so I can really get used to the bowling and then start 'caressing' it around with my new beauty SAF. :D I just saw you asked for good on the drive; what a coincidence, the drive is my favourite shot!! :D
The bat's a cracker, how come you sold it to me, never asked?! :D
-
I never doubted it was a great bat, i just felt it wouldnt be used as much as the other bats i have, as i love my lightweight bats and i thought i should sell it while it was brand spankers as oppesed to netting with it and then getting half of what it was worth, i hope you do it justice......
out of interest who will you be playing for next season? and in what league....
-
Highgate CC. I'm not sure what team - unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I think I'll start in the 5s vs. the hand grenades (1987 League Div 6) then move up to 4s (1987 League Div 3). The other 3 teams are all in Middx County Championship League Div 2s. I'll also play for the Midweek and Sunday Friendly/league teams.
I just tried the bat after my preliminary stage of knocking in with an old ball, and WOW! It goes like a tracer bullet! I think this'll be the bat I'll start hitting 6s with, as am usually a touch player but have always fancied the straight boundary at Highagte :D
I'd love to get some serious runs with it next year though! Cheers for selling it to me again, and also out of interest who do you play for, for what teams and in what league?
:D
-
my hunts county never got a duck with it the custom experience aswell never going to sell it never going to get it refurbished just going to let it go naturally and then going to keep it in my cabinet :)
-
maybe i should have kept it lol ;)
i play for Horndon-on-the - hill CC in the Shepheard Neame Div 2 atm
-
My custom made Hunts County.
Got my first ever 50 with it. Hell of a bat. Will ALWAYS have a special place in my life not only my cricket bag :)
-
I have two or three bits of favourite stash, my MCC sunhat and bat I scored my first (and next few) hundreds with - again it was a custom Hunts County

Hunts again :)

Hunts again :)
I hit my first 6 with a Hunts bat, real traditional profile but it was a great bat, so good infact my dog chewed the bottom corner of it! Bloody mutt!!
-
It must be said it is my box, not only is the most protective piece of gear, i have had it the longest out of all my current gear, and it is a 'legendary' Fearnley one.

Masuri Ti

My gloves are important to me as they provide excellent feel (Itias and Redback). As is my helmet (Slazenger Elite pro).
Best bit of kit I own at the moment is either my Gel advance IIs or GN PP Duffle.
-
Without doubt my Morrant int'l ultralite pads and Nike zoom opener boots. I can play with any bat or lid but if I am missing either of these 2 bits and need to use someone else's kit, it feels really odd.
-
got to be my ayrtek just feel bit better knowing i am protected up there as love playing the short ball lol

and there was me thinking you were going to say your Sachin.......
-
my morrant dalek thigh pad shorts - without doubt the lightest and most comfortable combo I've ever had (though a pig to wash).
-
and there was me thinking you were going to say your Sachin.......
close second but take on the short ball alot against some decent bowling so need to feel safe first then confident if i hit the ball it will stay hit ( which it does with the sachin )
-
got to be my custom-made Graham Plimmers. no better feeling than having the ball just melt into your hands with them on
