Most important / Favourite bit of kit.....
« on: October 29, 2010, 11:00:36 AM »

Seeing as these winters are long and arduous without any cricket, it would be good to find out a bit more about our forum members, their kit, superstitions or any daft stories they have to tell...

What is the most important / favourite bit of kit in your bag and why? Is there a tale, superstition, ritual behind it?

(If a member wishes to cite a particular bat then a story of grandeur and swashbuckling strokeplay must accompany it)

 :)

A bat which by the name of rocket (m and h custom)  was stuck to the roof of my changing room by duck tape. i used it in the match and ended up with 124 off 53 balls. just beat me by one ball! ^^^ sadly the bat snapped in half this summer as did 6 others. sad times.

I couldn't manage without my bag of odds and ends (sunglasses, suncream, tape etc).

Bat wise it would have to be my first proper bat, a G2 Ace of Elland that scored me my first 50 and promptly dispatched a straight 6 in an u15 cup final to win the game....off the final ball of the innings.

but

My favourite bit of kit is my 1st XI school cap, completely battered and nigh on drained of colour, bleached from the sun/sweat but is an ever present in the kitbag.

Not really a superstition but whenever I've put a face cover on my (Ayrtek) bat the next innings I've got atleast 50.
I put a hammer edge on my bat before the game in which I got 110, the next top scorer for our team got 26 which is the same sort of story with their innings with the top scorer getting 98* and second top scorer getting 32. We won though so it's all good.

i remember the 1st six i hit with it lol

i went for a lofted shot over mid on and i was way to early on it and it went so high in the air thought it was gonna be a dolly but it just kept going and going and going!

still makes my arms ache when using it with bowling machine because balls are coming so frequiently!

If I have to take one thing to a cricket match without which I would not go it would be my box. I don't generally wear thigh guards so the rest I could borrow off my mates for a match.

M&H Custom, changed me from being a leg-spinner who bats 11 to an opening batsman in half a season :D

Must have been some game, Joe. I'd love to be knocking around 100s/50s at will, like you've seemed to have done!! I reckon 2011 will be my year though  :D
