Title: Kookaburra Weight Reduction and Customer Service.
Post by: AlRidd on November 03, 2010, 05:10:14 PM
Hello all,

Just wanted to give a brief review of my experience with Kookaburra's customer service.

I recently purchased a stunning Tim Keeley bat from Mike (Talisman), however upon getting throwdowns and playing air shots I realised the bat was a little on the heavy side, especially considering I am quite pedantic about my grip setup which weighs 2.4 ounces. All in the bat had a deadweight of 2lb 13.1.

Despite being 6 foot 3 I am a light bat man. I emailed a few companies and got quite a few quotes on a weight reduction, ranging from £20 to £40+. But due to having previous good experiences with Kookaburra's refurbishments I decided to go with them.

I was a bit cheeky and asked if there was any chance of getting their stickers applied to my bat and to my surprise they said it was not a problem!

I asked for;

A weight reduction so that the dead weight of the bat including my grip setup was 2lb 9.5.
Kookaburra CCX Stickers to be applied.
A White Toe guard.
An anti-scuff sheet to be applied.
A White Kookaburra Max grip to be applied.
To keep a decent size profile, with more emphasis on a big spine than big edges.

Kookaburra quoted me at £30 Including return postage for this which was a very good price.

To say I was happy with what I received less than a 10 days afetr sending would be the understatement of the year! The bat feels absolutely sublime, looks the mutts nuts, and still goes like a train.

I will get pictures up when my camera finishes recharging.

P.S. The guy at Kookaburra who sorted it all out for me was called Jonny Weber and was extremely nice and also very helpful.

that sounds like an awesome deal , after stickers / grip / scuff/ toeguard / return postage , they must have only made about £20 (postage being most of this obv) , any before and after pictures ?? just seen the cameras on charge

Sounds like a cracking deal Al!

I am glad you are pleased with there service as many people don't seem to be pleased with weight reduction service.

Sorry about the awful picture quality. Doesn't do the bat justice :(

Bat look stunning! It is quite massive for its size as well. THe sticker go very well as well and look like a genuine Kookaburra bat.

This is just making me feel bad after my refurb from Warsop.

Haha, looks like a beaut of a bat mate - I was planning on selling my Warsop and using the money to buy a kook bat off Talisman.

Couple of questions...

*Tim Keeley bat?? So was it just a plain bat?
                         And
*What is your grip combo to weight so much???
Title: Re: Kookaburra Weight Reduction and Customer Service.
Post by: AlRidd on November 03, 2010, 10:07:02 PM
Yeah, was originally plain but Mike put some Talisman stickers on it.

And my grip combo is; I have a lot of zinc oxide micropore tape wrapped around the handle with a slightly thicker bottom hand, I then have a Shock Absorba/Kookaburra Max/ something with a different texture bottom hand, and on top either a chevron or a GM Control grip. Oh and I have a small counterbalance on the top of the handle using small bits of old grips and zinc oxide tape.

Christ...... No wonder the extra weight!

That's good and surprising that they put their stickers on if it's not their bat......

They have done a good job but why the tape across the toe? they don't put it on their bats and that toe would be stronger than a real Kookaburra.

The toe is not huge and I just thought it might benefit with a little tape for extra protection, was my addition not Kookaburra's.

I think that cosmetically it is really ugly there, makes me think that the bat is broken.

Yeah I agree it does make it a little less attractive but I would rather be safe than sorry! I may well remove it though as I'm sure the toe will be fine.

i think a better way of doing this is what mike did on a bat i got off him, there is an extra layer off scuff right at the toe with the actual scuff sheet going over the top of this , looks really nice , and presumably does the same thing as extra tape

Added a couple of finishing touches to it with a grip that compliments the stickers perfectly and a nice Monster Energy sticker.

Ould the large one even fit on the back of a bat?
Title: Re: Kookaburra Weight Reduction and Customer Service.
Post by: peplow on November 07, 2010, 01:44:06 PM
yeah it can fit as a normal sticker on the back. so it would almost be a monster energy bat!
