Get saving peeps....

Would have to really stupid to buy one of those... absolutly ludicrous to sell a bat for that much, but good luck to them if they sell any. Lavers £800 for two bats and all the accessories seems far more reasonable.
-
iv put my name down for 2 already!
-
You do wonder...
-
Maybe Neil wants to boost the retirement fund?!
-
That's absolutely ridiculos!!
-
They sold 4 this summer, I like the stickers, minimal and the logo is raised up a lot so you can really feel it.
-
But surely:
It is a bespoke product beyond compare that will be completely customised. The owner will be invited to our workshop where we will manufacture the blade and handle to his or her requirements at any weight they wish in front of their eyes, using the finest English willow. The customer can return at any stage of the process to check on its manufacture and make any changes.
Is no different to what SAF, Robert Pack, Matt H4L, etc offer at 20% of the price?
-
"one of the most important aspects in the manufacture of the Cenko is the pressing of the willow"
Surely they are trying to press each bat as well as they can anyway?!
-
Was this the 'something special' sillyshilly was on about after the trade shows?
-
It is a fabulously clever bit of marketing. By offering this bat, Newbery will be talked about, as evidenced by this thread. Because the bats are custom made, they don't have to make any to carry as stock and risk them not selling. If they do sell any, they will make a spectacular profit on each one.
It is a near perfect business model. We are seeing more bat makers offer a similar thing now. Laver, Matrixx, GN with the Legend, Slaz with their 2 high end aussie models etc. All because it is virtually risk free.
-
I love newbery bats but this just seems a bit gimmicky. Just a competitor for James Laver in the rich boys toys Market. For me to pay £1000 for a bat I'd have to have won the lottery or stupidly drunk. Plus i would expect it to do the batting for me, make my tea and clean my whites ;)
-
i'm sure there is a market for it, but given the choice i would go for the laver as you get 2 bats.
Also are these Newbery the best clefts becasue of performance or looks?
PS, Mike if you see this, I need your paypal!
-
Liam his paypal is mikebrimble@gmail.com
-
I'm sure there are a few hedge-fund managers plying their trade in the Surrey leagues that it may appeal to.
-
You will basically get the same bat as Tim makes for Sachin and other top Test players, it may be a lot to us but not to the multi million pound city boys, of whom some will work for Cenkos no doubt.

Thanks, Have pm'd you Mike
-
Cenkos just conitnue to win the Six in the City competition every year.... with Min Patel...
-
Rob Key still playing for them in that?
-
Cenkos sponsor the club i play for
-
Discount time then....
-
Its nothing to do with Cenkos the company though is it? Thought it was just the name picked by Newbery?
-
It is, I think it is Andrew who has gone in with some friends to buy Newbery as a hobby.
-
I'm astonished, maybe I'll get lucky and see one in the bargain bin end of next season ;)
-
That would make sense...
-
Dear Mum and Dad...
For Christmas I would like the above :D hahaha

Dear Mum and Dad...
For Christmas I would like the above :D hahaha
i have done the same and got a 2 word reply and the second was off :(
-
Interested to know how much your parents hate you Perkins...: what did the first word start with..
-
Pointless in my opinion.
I mean if you have good contacts with Tim (such as Mike) then you can have your bat made by Tim so same person making bats (according to your specs) so you are just paying for the stickers. I am sure similar clefts will be used and as far pressing goes can't it be on ones preference? Newbery already have great pressing...
-
what i dont get is if it is what it is made for satchin then if
you auctioned one of his bat no way would it make £1000 :/
-
If people with the means to do so want to buy one of these, fair play to them. If I was in the position that a grand for a bat was acceptable, I think I'd have one too.
However a benefit of being a member here is knowing that you don't have to spend a grand to get top Newbery willow.
-
You get to meet Tim and watch him make it, maybe it is worth it, maybe not but I bet they sell them.

Don't assume this to be a leading question, just take it on face value, but;
Is it possible such an instance could be arranged by other means, or is that not possible due to this offer now in place?
-
Having seen bats sell for £60k and having received offers in excess of £35k (although both could have been memorabilia or for use) there are people willing to part with money for the best.
I guess you're paying for the experience and bragging rights more than anything.

What on earth were they ????
yet another example of really nice classic looking understated stickers !

It is, I think it is Andrew who has gone in with some friends to buy Newbery as a hobby.
SO Newbery are no longer owned by the family?
-
Its nothing to do with Cenkos the company though is it? Thought it was just the name picked by Newbery?
As Talisman pointed out Newbery and Cenkos do have connections.
-
i remember a post a while back where someone said Newbery were due a very special release, is this the one or is there something else on the production line?
-
Sillyshilly should be able to answer that as he mentioned the 'special thing' in the first place
-
This is the one I think ul find
-
imagine youd get the employee discount for working at Cenkos. Are they hiring?
-
If I only I could win the lottery....
-
Excuse me my arrogance but what exactly is 'Cenkos'? I thought it was just a random name Newbery selected like Thruxton, Krakatoa etc
-
Cenkos are a financial services company.
-
Cheers mate!
-
All joking aside lets hope who ever buys a cenkos get a lot of pleasure out of it. But it is very reassuring to know that forum members like Mike ( Talisman ) Gary at Redback, H4L, Andy at Saf etc to name but a few can still supply us a with a bat of comparable if not equal quality to the Newbery Cenkos pending on your own personal point of view.
-
4 of these bats have been sold so far according to Newbery
Regards
Asad
-
In 3 days 4 of 25 £1000 bats have been sold! Not a bad ratio
-
well i saw 3 clefts which were selected to make 3 more bats. I counted around 26 straight grains on one of the cleft.
-
Wow 26 grains!
Did those clefts happened to be light/over sized clefts or they were same as the one being used for SPS with lot more grains?
Thanks
-
i was told that those 3 were selected after going through 1000 clefts so u can imagine the quality of the willow.
-
The 4 were sold over the summer, the model has been available since July.
-
Definately linked with the company Cenkos. The bat has the exact same logo as the company's.
-
are cenkos the investment firm behind the Newbery buyout?
that would make sense.

That is correct!
