This Is something that's had me thinking recently.
How many different balls are being used accross the leagues and what league are they used in. I currently play P.D.C.L and we use Readers sovereign and have recently added a Dukes ball as well to our premier division, We Have found the dukes has a lacquer which enables the ball to swing more but seems harder than the readers and doesn't last as long in terms of durability. The quicks seem to prefer the dukes though. Would be interested to see what everyone else uses
-
think its a readers sovereign but supplied by league so not 100%
-
Both balls we use are league supplied, club purchased. Just think it's odd how we use two completely different match balls.
-
We use the Readers Sovereign in the Herts League.
-
that is odd but our 2nds use a different ball to us but from same league committe so not unusual theres is of a poorer quality and goes soft after 15 overs so no good for our standard but tink they would use the same universal so not much of a change if someone moves up
-
The two balls in our prem league are completely different. Im just wondering if were the only league that do this.
-
same ball used throughout our league as has to be checked by umpires first so strange to use two different balls in the same league
-
In Premier division it is White Kookaburra and in Division 4 they use league provided Pink balls.
-
In the Aire-Wharfe we have list of balls we can use:
Alfred Reader Balls
1) Alfred Reader and Son Special County Imperial Crown
2) Alfred Reader and Co. Test and County
3) Alfred Reader and Son Sovereign County Special
4) Alfred Reader and Son Invicta Elite
Dukes Balls
5) Dukes and Son County International
6) Dukes and Son Crown Special County
7) Dukes and Son Regent
Others
8) Oxbridge Buckingham
Grade A Made in England
9) Lords International
Grade 1 – The Regal County Crown (BS 5993)
The Dukes are around £28 a ball, Readers Sovereign around £18.
Dukes are the best quality but obv very expensive, the past season we used Oxbridge Buckingham we we are find are excellent as they last a lot longer than readers balls and shine up well and have a good seam. I get these for £16 a ball which compared with the Dukes especially is a bargain. They are made by Tiflex who make the CCC Division 2 Balls.
-
Readers Gold 'A', cheeky £9 a go...
-
Lats season we used some awful Readers that lost there swing after 5 overs ! the year before it was Oxbridge and they were great we was using the last few at the start of the season. Though we should be having new balls this season as no team go on with them so the League will more than likely change them
-
Hunts County league special - I think.
Ask Tom :L
-
indeed colsey county balls in our league, some are good others last less than 5 overs before cracking up
-
In WEPL they use Surridge balls don't they? Or is that North Somerset?
-
Batting paradise in your league then Tom
-
north somerset we use surridge, not sure about wepl few lads play in that on here... IanB may be able to tell us
-
Does it hold it's shape and move around a little then
-
county i dont think are great, surridge is hard to tell as we havent got any pace or real swing bowlers in our sunday side lol we rely on our batting normally
-
Damn will have to come and play in your league lol
Our ball holds up ok shape and seam wise but still has a little swing in it after a while so always something in it for the bowlers
-
We have used surridge County grade balls in the COunty Minor leagues etc and Dukes, Surridge seemed to be soft and lose shape quickly. Dukes very good and swing/seem bowlers loved them.
-
we use some rubbish kookaburra balls in the league and in representative matches we use surridge balls which are like bricks!
-
A shiny red round one
-

We use Dukes in the WEPL. I have one here and will post a pic when I get round to it! Nice balls, they last ages. We keep them and use them in the nets and they keep their shape and shine nicely :)
-
How much for some used ones for nets? ;)
-
I have a (No Swearing Please) load of used balls of varying conditions and quality if anybody wants any.
-
Dukes county international. Great balls for all bowlers, and batsmen prefer it off the bat too.
-
Anyone know what ball is used in the Four Counties League
-
Anyone know what ball is used in the Four Counties League
A crap one!! Survives about 5 overs then resembles an 80 over ball! Played in that league last year but have moved on to Cherwell now. Where do you play?
-
Aylesbury Town CC,
was wandering whether its morrants as they sponsor the league i believe
-
West of England use Dukes
-
Seam bowler here. Love the Dukes county balls. Move for about 20 overs.
-
Sultan, tried to PM you for a while now, keeps saying inbox is full, could do with some hard balls for training, seconds that aren't soft and can still take to shine. PM with what you can offer
-
Dukes in the leagues at home, have used the kookaburra over in SA, there is a big difference in the two, the kooka swings for the first 10 overs after that good luck bowlers! The dukes however will swing all day with a little work. Also this may or may not be related to the ball but the theory of ball care was very different in SA, soften and rough up the ball as quickly as possible, different care for a different ball...
-
Readers in Scotland, switched to Hunts for a season but they were terrible so back to the readers now.
-
Got some pics here:
Pretty much a new ball, used in a quick net i think....

Jeez they look awesome!
-
Our junior league(Rugby something District league) uses these terrible pink balls, readers I believe. They hit the bat a lot harder than any other balls i have played with, as well as causing much more pain to the hands when compared to a normal red cricket ball! i can never get turn woth them, absolute nightmare!
Should be banned, absolutely disgraceful balls. There is being cheap, but then there's that!
I would love a Kook Regulation though... Square turn with that! :)
-
We sometimes use white SS balls for T/20 and I hate them bowling. Don't turn, don't swing - love it batting though, seem to go further :)
-
Tiflex Oxbridge Buckingham in the top leagues in Cambridgeshire next year, and Tiflex Oxbridge St John’s in the Lower leagues! I can't remember what we used last season but they were awful. They swung for 8 overs then just disintegrated even though they cost about 15 quid a ball. Our 2nd team had too use the same ball in both innings and if you batted 2nd they wouldnt go anywhere.... fortunately we had a good bowling attack!
