Why are pros only allowed to have 1 logo showing on their pads?
-
advertising regulations state that only 1 logo is allowed, specific sizes etc have to be adhered to due to this in terms of logo ???
-
Tugga you're back! did you manage to shift that GM then?
-
No mate, just going to get it stickered up :) thanks ayrtek. I think the pads look better like that.
-
Tom/Ayrtek, apart from logos, is there any difference between pro's pads and shop issue ones protection wise or are they the same? cheers
-
the ones we did with CCC which Benning/Taylor/Harbhajan/Onions wore were exactly the same as what we supplied to the shops as they used the same materials in them. Same applies to the pads now as gave Dave Wade a set of Elite pads/gloves which hes happy with...
if we were to supply an international player though who will be facing 90mph+ may tweak the materials a touch as they arent worried about cost price of the product as their personal protection is more important than having something that is cost effective to makret id think!
-
Did you give Dave Wade a set of pads to First Class specs or is he going to cover the logo with tape?
-
just normal ones mate...they arent so bothered on the county circuit from what i gather and from previous experience, it just more for televised games they clamp down a bit! seems a bit petty if you ask me but there u go ???
-
Thanks tom, was just interested as i have a set of puma stealths on the way from aswani that were meant for saj mahmood. Although as the best pads ive owned are some crappy £25 slazengers i wouldnt know if there was extra padding or not lol
thanks again tom :)
-
I dont see the point to it really....how is two small logos going to increase advertising?
Will you get him a pair of coloured pads for the limited overs?
-
yeh if he needs some..coloured pads are always tricky and u rely on the co-operation of your supplier to help u out with these as its not like your going to order up a large quantity of them :(
yeh cant see how its a major issue for the sake of a 30mm x 30mm logo either in all honesty
-
I just rang kookaburra asking if it would be possible to get a pair of the ones the pros use but they said they are made to their specs and that they're not available :(
-
The only difference in our pads is in the logo's and straps as the ICC regulate those very strictly.
-

Maybe they will send you some when they sponsor you next season.

Tom possible to buy one of these pads from Mongoose?
-

You have to be a pro to get them.
-
if i was designing a pair of pads i would only put one logo on them - they'd sell since there plenty of people who want to look like the pros
-
as a brand im sure you would want maximum exposure for your logo rather than worrying what an elite group of people such as the members on here do with covering up logo's to adhere to ICC regualtions when playing on our local cricket pitches ;)
-
As much as I would love to look like the pros I totally agree with where Tom is comong from. Brands need as much exposure as possible.
-
from our perspective we would rather joe public see's an extra logo on the pad and reads the brand name where ever possible :) as they saying goes any publicity is good publicity....hopefully we can reveal our news shortly on that front ;)
if people choose to stick some white electrical tape over the logo then it's their choice to do so which is an easy solution to solving the problem.
-
i have a laugh when i see some lad stickering up his logo in club cricket .
As a keeper i just rib them all day and it usually the all the gear no idea type.
I agree some Pro pads look better ie Kooks pro and so on but to tape or cut out logo's is just plain daft
-
I agree with that completely :) but i dont like the stuff companies are now starting to put on the sides of the pads.
-
I agree mate there a few doing it Kook GM and various others there many on here who do not(bloody hell it must be Christmas i am saying nice things about brands on here) and i also agree there seems so much branding on pads too much in my opinion
-
Its interesting this whole thing with Branding on the Pads when a first class sponsored player seems to be holding what is effectively 3 foot of branding in his hands? what are the rules concerning the Branding on the bat itself?
-
Top 9" can be branded and half of the back can be logo'd up.
-
It kinda makes the whole regulation on the amount of logos on the pads look a bit silly though eh?
-
It was worse when the Kook bats were used which were completely covered at the back and only 1 logo was allowed to be shown on the pad. Strange.
-
So Tom did you guys have to adhere to any special rules on the branding size with the Mongoose?? because of that.....sorry to digress and will not talk about the bat any more after this Promise ;)
now back to pads...
-
Thats what I was getting at really Tugga
So am I right in thinking that the straps have to be plain on the pads as well?
-
there are arguments for both subtlety and blatancy in branding, id go with subtlety every time!
if some one likes the product enough to want one they'll find out what it is.
-
if people are really that bothered about looking like the pros, why dint they simply de-brand the pads themselves its not that difficult.
Tugga if you want to de-brand the pads, then its easy enough for yourself especially with kookaburra pads. logos come off dead easily and simply a case of taking a pair of scissors to the labels on the straps. I've done it to my kookaburra pads and they look exactly like pro issue. just takes some patience
chip :)
-
I think protection wise pro pads and off shelfs pads are exactly the same. The only difference is as many said logo are removed/modified. As per MCC laws you can only have 2 logos on the pads (if I remember correctly).
Sometime player tape up there gloves for example to make them a bit more protective.
-
certain pro ask for extra padding and some believe it or not ask for less padding making them lighter..
-
I seriously doubt that. I mean if you look at Sachin, he is one of the greatest player in cricket history and he yet adds extra padding himself. I am sure Morrant could do this themselves without making pads too heavy..

To be fair to morrant there pads now have more padding than Sachin's as his are old ones as still have buckles..
Bet there are a few on here who can't remember buckle pads(showing my age)
-
Buckles are something which Sachin prefers and does it himself.
-
Well there ya go Sachin wears Morrant pads and modifies the Padding and The straps and Lables them as adidas I am so unobservant!
Lot of work though you'd think he'd have enough sway with adidas to say make me these please??

Adidas would have to buy Morants for that to happen as they own the IP on the pads.
Plus if he likes what he has, why change it? he has used the same bat for the last few years (!) the same pads for most of his career and the same style of gloves basically his whole career. If you like what you have, why change it?
-
Who would have thought a 5ft nothing fella could make rubbish looking equpment look so good!
Has anyone used Morrant here?
-

when you say half the back of the bat is that done on % surface area covered?
My friends looked into this when he was designing some for gcse product design a few years back, he said the stickers on the back of my Bradbury were illegal as they went nearly the whole way down the back.
The adidas incurza bats up to last year must have been close to the limit?

Herath the Sri Lankan was offered shop pads he wanted lighter pads and asked for some of the padding to be removed

I didn't mean literally!! Lol was kinda getting at that seeing as sachin is such a big money spinner for adidas that he might be able to get them to make him up a set of pads to a very exacting spec. But I do see your point buzz why fix it if it ain't broke eh?
Oh to have the pick of the worlds kit....
The captain of our midweek t20 side uses the same lightweight morrants and gotta say I've allways liked the look of em and he liked them so much he bought a couple of pairs.
Look ok to me quality wise
-
if you see carefully, Sachin adds the extra padding only to the front pad. The back leg padding is the standard that comes on the Morrants.
I think during one of the ODIs between IND and NZ, Vijay Murali was asked to cover up all the Morrant logos on his pads as Morrant are not registered with the ICC as cricket equipment supplier. Strange I think after all the hype and excellent product.
-
Sachin got given his pads by Sunil Gavaskar.
