Just a quick one, had a conversation with a mate of mine this morning talking about bats, and he said him and his brother were a massive fan of Newbery until they got bought out by someone?
Can anyone explain this further? I don't have a massive knowledge of how they operate their business, just interested more than anything else
-
They were bought out by an investor a couple of years ago. Apart from maybe their shop outlet 'The Chalet' being a bit more business focussed, I don't think anyone has seen a drop in product quality or customer support.
It is the automatic assumption when a small family business is bought out that it will go downhill, but in this case things seem to be as good as they ever were.

Echoing Jon's comment, I believe the investor was Cenkos? Certainly, the bats don't seem to have diminished in quality and the softs I have are certainly excellent.
-
I was suprised he said that to be honest.
I don't think I have seen a bad Newbery and as you say, the softs are really good. I suppose people so get cynical with buyouts/takeovers etc, but like Jon said, sometimes you do hit lucky with someone who wants to invest and not change the existing business model

If it is Cenkos that invested (I'm not 100% sure) then the consistency of the goods would make sense. Cenkos are very involved in a number of the cricket charity events that go on in the City.

Good to see that not all companies want to bleed the smaller guys dry then
-
Previously was owned/run by Tim and Nick Keeley. They got bought out and set up their own firm just manufacturing bats for companies.
Newbery bats are still made in the same places as they always have been, but their approach has changed slightly from just quality to a more PR aware approach with bats such as the 'Chic' and 'Cenkos' being released.
-
So if I wanted a Tim Keeley custom, how would I go about that? Call Newbery and do it through that or Tim direct? Never spoken to them before
-
i got mine through Mike- Talisman, as have alot of people on here and its an absolut cracker
although it doesnt appear he's on here much anymore
-
think it depends on what he has on at the time, having been down and meet Tim and his brothers hes a top bloke whos love for bat making is obvious as soon as you meet him!
they obviously have commitments to Newbery to produce their bats which takes up most of their time
-
Yeah I'm waiting for Mike to appear for a couple of things at the moment, but that's alright with me.
Thanks everyone for clearing that up for me anyway

Does this mean the BlueRoom rob has made up for you is now inessential?

I think you underestimate the man's spending abilities!

Looks that way mate. Had a couple of good months with work and thought that as I have stocked up the mini bar for Christmas, I may as well line some pockets on the forum ;)
How's the snow up your way fella? Your status on facebook had me in stitches this morning
-
Haha I'm more worried about some other sausage trying to acquire his new wood, I wouldn't doubt Wills pockets fella. Apparently it's been getting a lot of attention from punters who have seen it ready for delivery. Snows non existent for now mate, just -10 all day everyday. Well it's not like it's a secure staff car park with allocated parking or anything!! I've been here 2 year and that nugget has been in my spot since last Thursday. Twonk
-
Just pop a friendly note on his windscreen if you catch my drift...
No mate, all on for it. Waited long enough to get it, just had a crap couple of weeks but all sorted now. Not going to bother with postage until after Christmas, can't be doing with the hassle and there has been no post round my way for 3 days now anyway. I'd rather not stress over whether or not some postie has used my gun to prop his broken down car up on a country lane...
-
I'll pop a friendly brick on it!! Haha
Yeah post has been pants round here as well. Sometimes I don't think they bother with the village being on top of a huge hill
-
I have used Newbery for the last 15yrs, and the quality seems to be improving if anything.
I currently wield an UZI C6+, its 3yrs old and could pass for 3 months old!
New all white softs last season were a must have too...

Mike is just finishing a massive house move with all kinds of problems - the latest is that his bt phone / broadband hasn't worked yet! That is being repaired in next few days. He did manage to check his mail but he had hundreds and hundreds to try to wade through! So he's trying to sort everything now and get up to date next week with luck! And at the sane time finish everything that needs doing at home! I spoke to him twice and he sounded exhausted both times!!! He is best bet for TK bat still!
