Just a quick one who here uses them or doesn't as some people don't believe in them others swear by them thoughts?
-
Never used to use them but have been converted.
-
I use them, I find it looks after the blade well, Only use Hammer edge mind
-
I used them, sometimes. Depends what mood I'm in.
-
i always use them on a new bat, sometimes take them off after a season's use

Yeah same here . . . dont ask me why though!
-
I use them. I keep them on for the life of the bat if I do, as we often play in rain, so then muddy pitches, don't like mud or moisture on/in my bat! :)
-
Always use them. Never really tried a hammer edge. Can't believe there much difference though? Normally give the face a wipe after games to keep my bat looking new too!
-
Hammer edges are slightly cloudy, compared to the helicopter (I think they're called that) scuffs. Though I sell hammer edges, I am wretched at putting them on a bat, and the 2 scuffs I have on my bats are helicopter scuffs hehe
-
Ahh right. Any difference in protection they offer the bat?
-
Not really, I think the clear helicopter scuffs are slightly more durable, but Dave (procricket) is your man, as he knows a lot about Scuff Sheets, drop him a PM and he'd be able to explain much better than I can lol :)
-
The helicopter scuff sheets are thicker (twice as thick as others) and dont crack when they dry out
-
helicopter ones are the expensive ones, i dont think thats what you have johan, i think you have regular clear scuff sheets...
hammer edges i ifnd are better than regular scuff sheets, but apparently these helicopter gels ones are decent. but at £8 plus a go they should be!!
-
Oh right my bad. Maybe I just have normal ones. I was trying to feel special. Cheers Sam :| I did put a hammer edge on the McLean I sold a while back though, and they do seem very protective..
-
yeah chopper ones, or the new chopper ones are expensive but are meant to be great, however the hammer edges do the job so i cant see myself paying any more for a scuff sheet!
-
the aviation industry use the clear polyurethane sheets and these are generally the best you can get if you want it to be both see-through and easy to apply.
From what i have seen, the hammer edge sheets offer a little more protection to the blade but i hate putting them on and i dont think they look as good.
Readers and other companies do a really poor anti-scuff sheet that is brittle and offers no protection - not worth the money!
I use anti-scuff's on all of my bats, change them at the end of the season when they get a refurb..............but at £8 a pop it seems to be a bit of a luxury! (By the way, i think you can probably get them cheaper than £8)
-
what are these other scuff sheets your on about i use hammer edges,
-
There 5 pound from Romida for a chopper scuff sheet serious cricket do them as well..
The new gel ones are more expensive and are more protective than hammer edge but then again so ar the old chopper ones
Asad sells them as well cheaper than a fiver i think
-
I don't know if I use these chopper ones. They're fairly thick for a scuff sheet, flexible and very good protection, clear and don't split.
I don't like them because they retain their condition well = don't look used (no cherries in the middle)

I use the Romida scuff sheets exactly because of this. They are excellent.
-
i use clear antiscuff sheets and apply my own fibreglass tape down each edge. does help prolong the life of the bat in my opinion. great piece of kit :)

But then the ones that I do middle don't show ;)
-
On the proper chopper ones i find that at first the marks show then after the first clean they do not and i will be honest i like my bats all looking new
-
Been trying a few different anti scuff sheets recently and found the 3M helicopter tape is very good.
Costs about £23 a roll but got 5-6 bats out of the roll. Doesn't crack like some of the single ones you can buy.
They are a little bit wider than normal sheets but i just trimmed 10-15mm off the edge and they were spot on.
Julian Millichamp uses helicopter tape on his screaming cats so if its good enough for him its good enough for me.

I found this on eBay used it my self I know this is a bit of an old topic but I thought people would find this useful as previously said these are really good quality helicopter scuff sheets that Julian millichamp uses I find these to be the perfect width at 125 mm wide you get about 8-10 scuff sheets dependent on what size you choose to cut it to so works put about £2 per sheet
