Alright so one of my family member was visiting UK so I thought I should buy a bat as it will save me postage. So I made up my mind and had planned that I will once again buy a English made bat. I was in sort of a dilemma as I was after few bats (Harlequin from Yash, S6 from Sam and few others) but since I had dealt with uzisports before where I bought my Newbery from so I was very certain about there customer service and products as my previous experience was by far a very good one. Since I wanted a English bat and something other than Newbery then my only choice was Salix and after seeing Salix which uzisport had on there website I was very certain that I will buy them. Personally I wanted something of higher sweet spot as I already have Krakatoa, which is low sweet spot so I wanted a different shape one. So my only choice in Salix’s catalogue was Pod. The one uzisports had were slightly expensive and out of my budget so I then had a look at their Factory Second section and the one which I really liked in that section was bat number 4.
I asked Asad Bhai what is wrong with the bat and he said he can’t see anything wrong with the bat as he had a look at the bat for me couple of times and every time he would look for a issue he would fail. So I knew that Asad Bhai will never lie and I also know that he is an honest person so I took his words and bought that bat along Salix Arma gloves (wanted Pod Black but they weren't available anywhere. Hopefully I will be getting Pod Black soon from Asad Bhai). I wanted to get this bat knocked in so I told Asad Bhai to ship it to Sam but because of snow delay and time shortage I didn’t wanted to risk it and I got it directly shipped at our place in UK. When Asad Bhai found out that I was looking to get it knocked he was generous enough to knock in the bat for me for free of cost. At the end it was a bit of gamble but I was not worried as I had my trust in Asad Bhai and believed him.
After receiving the bat:
So I received the bat 3 days ago and I was over the moon as soon I first touched the bat. First thing I noticed was that how well it was finished. My best-finished bats are Newbery Krakatoa and MB Malik Bubber Sher Limited Edition and this Salix’s finishing was like them if not then slightly better. The finishing on Salix bats is really special and very good. After that I began to look for the defect in the bat and why it was labeled as Rogue but I was left fruitless and found nothing wrong with the bat :D.
It weighs 2.10 lbs but since it has Pod shape it feels and picks up lighter in my hands. It feels around 2.7-2.8 lbs mark whereas the balance is exceptional. Personally I prefer semi-oval handles like my MB LE but this has a full oval handle which I don’t mind either:D.
It doesn’t have a toe guard, which I am looking to apply in future. I have been knocking it whenever I get time and so far it is going very well off the mallet.
Since there are no defects or I plan to sell this bat in foreseeable future so I am looking to resticker it (if possible).
Uzi Sports Service
Once again Asad Bhai was a great person to deal with him. The type of treatment I got this time was something really really special and I am 200% sure that if I had explained my situation to anyone else on the forum or any other seller then he would have never ever done this so hats off to Asad Bhai for his superb service. I don’t think I will ever turn on to anyone else except Asad Bhai. I seriously don’t have words to explain his customer service. The free knocking in service was great one as well so overall I am very very pleased.
Now enjoy the pictures ☺ (They certainly don’t do the justice).

Thanks!
I meant to a Pod or 2011 stickers, what do you reckon?
-
not keen on 2011 stickers, i do like those and it would cost a fair bit to get new ones, i'd leave it. Do love that profile though with the big bow!

Salix give them for free to there retailers I think.
I was thinking of replacing these Rogues with Pod stickers as it will look more realistic
-
Just shows how tastes differ! I really like the 2011 Salix stickers!!

Glad you got it safely at it was a bit of a trauma choosing it!
I'm interested in you use of the phrase 'it will look more realistic'. Hows so?

First of all, a special thank to you for all of your help. It was seriously great and very helpful. I really appreciate it mate!
What I basically meant to say was that since the shape is of Pod and with having pod stickers it will make it look like a pod bat. On the contrary if I put pod stickers on daemon shape it wouldn;t look realistic.
-
but surely they wont let you put pod stickers on if its a rogue?
-
i think he means as it appears not to be a rogue the pod ones that are normal are more relaistic for bat? :S
-
but surely they wont let you put pod stickers on if its a rogue?
Not too sure about that. If they won't allow me then its fine I won't but if they have no problems then its fine :)
Either way doesn't really make a difference to me.
-
You may have trouble getting stickers for it without having to send it back to Salix, which is going to mean the stickers are very expensive.
Maybe consider it when you have worn the current ones out?
-
Thats absolutely right, use it for a season and enjoy the bat and in a year send it for a refurb to Salix as the 2012 stickers could be even better. The bat looks perfectly finished, their sanding is second to none and I can smell the finishing from here! You have done very well there fella.
-
Looks a lovely blade Uzair. Would be interested to know if you are a right or left handed batsman, as the heartwood looks delicious on the LH's outside edge...I say keep the stickers too, not too much to worry about cosmetically when you have a bat that looks that damn good!
-
Jon - that's a very good idea. I didn't think of that so thanks mate :D that way bat will stay new and look new :D
PM7 - Agreed! The finishing is superb! The best finished bats I have till day rare Salix, MB Le and Newbery and I found this to be tad better than those. You seriously can't find a "unfinished" spot in the whole bat. Andrew's work is really impressive and worth extra buck
Johan - Unfortunately I'm a right hand batsman, would have loved to be a left hand :). Thanks I'll focus and enjoy the bat
-
That bat is a stunner! And it really does beg the question why it ended up in the "rogue bin"
Would Salix class this as a rogue for a flaw hidden by the stickers? Like a small knot? Or do you think it might be the loss of clarity on the grains through the heartwood on the bat?
Not that I think any of that detracts from what I'm sure is gonna be a beast come the start of the season!!
-
That is exactly what I am trying figure out, why it's Rogue? Hence, I posted loads of pictures so everyone can find the defect :)
Not too sure if there is a knot underneath the stickers. I think that small blemish might be the reason why it is was in Rogue bin.
I am knocking in the toe a lot as I fear the toes damage plus this bay has very thin toe
-
There may be some iron staining on the back of the bat, towards the toe - can't really see too well though
-
Tom will post a close picture for you.

Here you go Tom;

I think he's right, that must be it. If so, it's a very small cosmetic problem..and you've got a stunning bargain!! :)
-
what is iron staining johan? why does it cause it to be a rogue... is it simply cosmetic...
or tom?

Yep, just cosmetic.

Isn't it those black markings on the back of the bat near the toe label...? I don't know, I am assuming its cosmetic? I think Tom is better qualified to tell you though mate :)
-
Iron will often cause a blueish/dark stain in the bat, this will happen when iron is absorbed into the tree during the growing process. If thats all that is wrong with the bat then i would say you have an absolute bargain. It shouldnt have an effect on the performance of the bat from what i've been told.

you muppet i know that, i meant what actually is it as your reply seemed pretty clued up..
-
I'm no muppet as i know you dont.
-
thatsb gonna be a lot of removing...
back on topic, that salix looks better everytime i see it, gotta keep my eye out for these rogues!!
-
dear god what a bat
-
Also I'm not sure if this happens with all Salixs but this one had a full face scuff sheet which is of great quality as well.
If that marking is the reaon why its Rogue then hats off to Salix for there strict grading system
-
I've seen some Full Face Scuffs on other Salixes, though I suspect Asad would know the answer. If neither you nor he could find anything else to suggest it is a rogue, surely it must be the iron staining. Remember that the Salix Grade 1 Bats have to be absolutely flawless, or they're binned, such is the quality of the finishing that more often than not you see amazing pieces of willow coming out to us in the UK (and World) market.
-
Personally I was happy with the scuff sheet and wish to get hold of another one of similar quality for my MB LE
Well Asad had a good time looking for defects as I had requested him to look for and he didn't find any nor I found any. So I think its only iron mark but will wait to hear more from Tom.
I will once again appreciate Asad Bhai's honesty that he didn't lie by trying to sell his product and was honest all the way through the deal. People like Asad Bhai are very very rare in this world, in fact, very rare for me
-
very nice bat cover_drive.. I wish i could have a similar bat. I'll ask Asad if he can get me a similar bat. I don't know whether its the way you took pictures OR the bat itself.. But it looks a beauty.. Can I ask you one thing, I think the pitches in USA and Canada are almost the same, slow and low.. Which bat did you like the most when playing? stroke wise, feel wise etc.. I know you have some wuality bats like Malik, Newberry, salix, CA.
-
Thanks for your kind words Rajesh Bhai :)
Well this was the second time I had dealt with Asad Bhai and as I deal with him he gets better and better and he is top bloke so I'm sure he will have something up in his selvees (check bat number 2, it looks similar but have a defect which is not serious to be honest).
Mate ask whatever you wish to :)
Personally I like low middle bats such as Newbery Krakatoa, Gray Nicolls Powerbow etc and I look to play on front foot and these low profile bats suit me but not even that I like low sweetspot bat.
I saw Gray Nicolls Oblivion 4/5 Star at my local shop and it had a very good low profile and I fell in love with it so I will be considering buying it (InshAllah).
If you have any more question(s) please don't hesitate to ask .

Does anyone know how much salix charge for stickers? I have a 7 yr old venom select that id quite like to resticker, but won't pay forty quid!does anyone have their email?
-
Had a 10 minutes net session with my Salix and this bat not only looks good but plays exceptionally well as well!
I had thought the toe was weak but few drives went off the toe and they did go far and the sound was a good one.
The middle is very large and very good one. Off the middle bat goes like rocket! I like to play on front foot and for that low sweetspot bat is ideal but this bat played very well!
Overall I'm very statisfied and happy with its performance today.
