Will be fun to see how many Aussies turn out for it

I really hope they give Morgan a chance to prove what he can do because he is in poll position to take over from Collingwood, and after Collys own admission earlier that he is probably going to retire soon, and they cant just chuck him in with very little experience next summer! But unless they replace Colly himself I cant think who else they will bring Morgan in for.

My prediction is probably an unchanged team unless they bring Finn back.

Prob unchanged and they will give colly a farewell test next year at home or in this test

I can't see them bringing Finn back in after Tremlett/Anderson/Bresnan have bowled well

Harsh on Finn, but no need to change a winning team

What would everyone's view be if Colly got a big 'un?

Would be nice if colly scored a big one and retired....your as good as your last game.

He still has alot to offer to the one day team
Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)
Post by: roco on January 02, 2011, 06:37:16 PM
I still think it's his time this series or have the next one at home as a kind of testimonial as he deserves it for all the crap he has got us out of down the years
Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)
Post by: iand123 on January 02, 2011, 06:37:48 PM
It would be typical of colly to come good in this test, but, he has looked horribly out of touch so far
Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)
Post by: punter_legend on January 02, 2011, 06:38:35 PM
colly's a fighter , he will get a big score i reckon and get back into good form , it happened a few years back he was close to getting dropped and got a stack of runs !
Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)
Post by: captainofcricket2011kse on January 02, 2011, 06:39:42 PM
If he does thats great, but it would just be a great send off I think. There are so many good youngsters out there, like Morgan, James Taylor and even a slightly older head like Bopara would do a better job. He doesnt offer too much bowling anymore, except possibly in ODI's. The only thing I think he offers more than some other players is his fielding.
Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)
Post by: Johnny on January 02, 2011, 07:42:02 PM
I honestly don't think Colly has been THAT bad - after 4 test matches he's only had 5 knocks, as he only batted once at Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. He was going ok in Adelaide and got 40 odd, and was in good nick in the warm up games. I think though, as mentioned previously, the perfect scenario would be for him to hit a match winning ton in Sydney, England win the series 3-1 and he announces his retirement from the test side going out on a high.

It's weird, would you rather retire after an Ashes series win in Australia for the first time in 24 years, or bow out on your homeground?

I just hope the weather holds for an ontime start

Usman Khawaja should not be batting at 3. If Aus bat first and one of the openers fall within the first 5 overs then its going to leave alot of pressure on the young batsman.

If I was a selector I would have him down at 5 with clarke at 3 and huss at 4

Title: Re: 5th Test, Sydney (Pink Test)

Is Clarke the man to bat at 3 though? The selectors will be worried that if an opener falls quickly and Clarke, a man in poor form comes in, then he goes aswell the momentum will be all England and they will be scared about another under par score.

Maybe but then surely they should be worried about sending a man on debut in? as the same is likely to happen, at least clarke will have enperience on his side, and he has made a 80/90 odd this series..

In all fairness all the hype surrounding Khawaja, if Australia dropped him down to 5, England would be all over him with the banter. If he's good enough to play for Australia, then he should bat in his own position.

Though he went last ball of the day, he did look pretty impressive, much better than Punter has been this series IMO.

Like the look of that number 3 he looks a test player all they need now is a quality opener and a good number 4 and another quality seamer and possible a spinner who can take wickets then they might be balanced and effective

Earlier start today because of the rain yesterday - how many we going to bowl them out for then? Anything under 230 would be great IMO.

I fancy Swanny to pick up another couple.

Vaughny bigging up Chris tremlet on TMS. saying if he stays injury free for next 12 months and plays 15 tests he will climb up those rankings. i totally agree, watched him bowl last night I just thought he was quality. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for him- you have to hand it to the big quicks who come back from injury after injury- simon jones a particularly sad case- though on a more positive note he is still playing for hants, I think...

Give him the benifit of doubt and hope that he realised that he didn't quite get the catch!
But it's probably inexperience! Most players would actually of turned to the umpires and made it clear that they are unsure!!

He just seems to bowl wide of the stumps to right handers and then it turns further away, doesnt seem to attack the stumps much to right handers.
Line looks good to lefties though

Beer deserved a wicket, but I'm sure that Beer would have preferred anyone else but the off-form Colly!
But I guess your first Test wicket is always special!

Would like to see Bell hit his form again - he deserved to bat at 5, especially with Colly on bad form!
The aussies have the balls to move Haddin and Smith around, so no reason why Bell and Colly shouldn't!!

The Aussies are where the windies were in the early 90's for me on the downward spiral after dominating world cricket for years let's just hope they don't slip as far best cricket around at the mom is sa vs ind great fast bowling vs great batting steyn against sachin was a joy to watch sachin even hogged the strike so he could face him

After watching Steve Smith "try" to bat and bowl, you gotta feel for Hauritz.

And to think Ponting let Hauritz take a pounding in India and replaced Smith the morning of the 2nd Test in Mohali, to protect him.

In hotel so listening to 5~Live commentary! And looks like the jokes have started!!!

What do you call an Aussie with a century?
A bowler!!

What do you call an Aussie with a bottle of Champagne?
A Waiter!

What do you call a World Class Aussie cricketer?
Retired!

A bit harsh but we have had 20 years of it so a bit of payback doesn't hurt!!  ;)

How can England score 3 centuries on the same pitch that Australia could only get one 50 on???

It just doesnt add up and shows how weak Aus are at the moment!

But what is it with Aussie cricketers and the inability to say 3 words without saying 'look' or 'listen'?

Very disappointing series from an Australian supporters point of view, however I agree completely with the sentiment that we were outplayed in every department.  Englands batsmen, in particular Cook, showed great concentration and application, while to bowlers gave very little away and created pressure.  Congralutions to England.  Australia will have a very difficult next few years.

Thanks!!!! It goes in cycles... WI, then Aus. For the time being SA and India are at the top. Maybe it will be England next.

totally agree, never like losing at any stage but you need to tip your hat and say way too good sometimes and England were in a different class all series. The batsman forced us to bowl to them and could never build pressure at any stages. Bowlers were outstanding to have 2 guys not play the first 2 test and come and dominate shows the depth that is in their squad compared to the aussies.
Fielding i was at the Adelaide test and you could tell the difference English looked like they loved being out in the field and were all jumping around and pounced on anything even when they wernt on top. Aussies had poor body language and have never seen us field so bad b4.

we have had it too good for so long with the likes of warne and McGrath that many cant see the fact that we dont have the cattle as we once did and there should be no shame in admitting that
