Post by: espocrespo on January 14, 2011, 10:12:11 PM

willow shavings look great, but personally i don't like 20 20 bats. Would you only use i for 20 20/limited over?

Honestly?

An uneven strip of heartwood and not straight grains.

Try and visualise it unstickered on ebay. How much would you pay then?

Looks very nice mate, I say if you want it, then go for it. Could prove to be a very clever investment. I see what you're saying about looks and the price, but looks aren't necessarily everything Jon, performance and the batsman are what count. Sure, it this was a sig I would be with you, but this is a slightly lower range..

To be fair Jon, that doesn't look as bad as some of the £200 off the shelf bats, if we're going to be picky about looks. Though I do think that you can get better looking clefts made for the price, but would they perform is the question. Do you know what weight that one is Ryan?

i think it is 2.10

tbh it doesnt look that big for a 2.10, let alone a T20 one. although that may just be the camera angle

Lot of meat in that for 2.10. (Interesting, we've contradicted each other..I think there is a wider ranging middle here, may be talking utter crap though..). James does make a mean bat, from the examples I have seen, Even at light weights like some of Dave's I believe? :)

Oh don't bloody tell me thing you know I am perfectly aware of. The OP asked for thoughts, I gave mine. I can't look at a pic and determine performance, maybe you can.

The bat looks well made and finished and if you consider it worth it then buy it. If you don't want negative viewpoints then don't ask for opinions.

Laver are by their own admission 50% overpriced in the UK. IMO if you want something of that sort buy one of the Jokers that is for sale.

I was just stating it, as I thought it would instil a certain level of balance to the debate. You've got the one side and I'm just coming back with my views. I wasn't being confrontational, sorry if the comment has been misconstrued as being one of this kind. I didn't know they thought they were 50% overpriced, all I intended to do was suggest the positive viewpoints after the OP... :|

johan, are you 15 going on 50?? : |   I definately prefer the look of the joker to that laver and agree with jon on the look of the wood. Though I now using a super short handle and think I might only buy ssh in future, though availability is limited. Do laver probbably get their wood from js wrights?

Haha, what, cause of the way in which I said that?! That's funny, though I've just realised that it did sound true...They do get their wood from JS Wrights, it's all personal preference and what you want to do with your money, I guess.. :)

Just please do not fall into the trap of thinking by paying more you will get better.

Lol, I go to a private school, so quite a few people talk in that sort of way, so I've sorta grown into it...though on the House Rules, it does say: "no txt spk lyk this" so I am obeying that one :) - Incidentally the only reason I even remember that was cause it looks funny lol :| Anyway, it's your decision, though I'm sure both sides of the argument can easily be elaborated on..!

If you're very happy with the bat you'd have to sell to buy the laver, there's not much point.

Lavers & Scats are being killed by the exchange rate at the moment, but it may turn around to or favour one day.

I see bats everyday on here & elsewhere I want, but I'm starting to realise I can't get them all! :(

Don't feel too badly for them, it is only bad for them trying to sell overseas. I doubt that covers a massive amount of their sales.

I feel bad for us - not them lol! I wouldn't mind a scat!

It doesn't look a huge bat for the weight, considering it's a shorter blade!
However, as I know his skill as a bat maker, I would dare say that the bat will perform just as well as his normal level of bats!
But as great as James is, I would still go for UK made T20 bat instead.
The cost would be one issue - as someone rightly stated that Scats and Lavers work out very expensive at the moment (due to the currency rates!) another issue would be because I know how decent the likes of the Black Cat Joker, or the SAF Audax bats are!
One of these days I may just be tempted to do a T20 bat comparison!! That would be fun!  :D

I think your test needs to be laver v generic v goose.... but you'd have to survive a few t20s for that...

Well, I could do SAF Audax v Black Cat Joker v Lekka T20.
But I would need a Goose on loan from Tom and to borrow the Laver T20 bat!  ;)

Don't have one with me, but for the sake of a decent review, I'm sure Andy could be persuaded.
Would be an interesting review - maybe an option this year

Would be very interesting.  Reckon we can get Bell or Morgan involved?

Doesn't the Audax have shallow scoops out of it? Like by the splice?

I heard that.

Ah, Latin lessons.
